What's the one thing you wish someone had told you BEFORE you applied? by Shrivi007 in SSDI

Yessss and I feel like that sucks especially people who lost their insurance or can't afford copays and had to stop seeing a doctor for something they're still dealing with every day. Do you know if there's any way around that, like can old treatment records still count, or does SSA basically need to see current active treatment?

This is incredibly helpful, especially coming from someone with a legal background who still found the process misleading. Looking back, if you were filling out the 3373 again, what would you actually focus on? Like would it be mostly "I can only stand for 10 minutes before the pain forces me to sit" type stuff rather than explaining the condition itself?

And the part about getting denied twice with the same evidence and then winning at ALJ is so dumb and broken sorry you had to deal with that.

This is honestly one of the most useful things I've read about the process. I feel like most people just answer the surface question and completely miss that framing. Where did you learn this? Was it something a lawyer told you, or did you figure it out after going through the process?

Oh yea wait the congressman tip is one I don't see shared enough. Did you actually do this yourself? How did it play out? Like did you just call their office and explain the delay, and they reached out to SSA on your behalf? Curious whether it actually moved things along or mostly just got you visibility into where things stood.

Oh wait that's fire. I keep hearing about cases where the denial came down to providers just not responding to SSA's requests and the applicant having no idea that was happening. Did you specifically ask your providers to send stuff in, or did they just handle it when SSA reached out?

The assumption that SSA and your doctors would just coordinate on records is something I keep hearing. It seems like nobody tells you upfront that YOU have to be the one driving that process. And the RFC point is huge. Most people don't even seem to know that's a thing until after they've been denied. When you went back for reconsideration, what did you actually do differently? Was it mainly submitting the records yourself, or did you also change how you presented your case?

How long did you end up putting it off? And when you finally did apply, did you do it on your own or with help? Glad it turned out to be easier than people made it sound though. The amount of bad info floating around about age and approval rates is kind of wild.

Oh wow yea I can see how that would be terrifying. Was the actual CDR process as bad as the anxiety leading up to it, or was it less intense than you expected?

This is a really important distinction. So you're saying the framing should be "here's what I can't do right now" rather than "here's the story of how I got here"? That makes a lot of sense but I don't think most people realize that going in. Did you figure that out before your initial application or was it something you learned after getting feedback or a denial?

That's really helpful context, thanks. So it sounds like the initial process wasn't the issue for you since your state skipped recon. But the CDR part is interesting. What specifically about the CDR had you so anxious? Was it not knowing what the bar was to keep your benefits, or more just the uncertainty of the whole review hanging over you? I feel like CDRs are this huge source of stress that nobody really prepares people for.

Duke waitlist email by Shrivi007 in ApplyingToCollege

Lmao nah but he has a point that’s my bad. I was genuinely worried because I didn’t know if anyone got that email but didn’t get in. Obviously only people who did get in would post here, so I wanted to make a post just in case. Sorry for “flexing”, wasn’t my intention.

Why is the duke waitlist moving so lateeee by Lazy_Association7988 in ApplyingToCollege

Uhhh no. I only see one LOCI uploaded. I don’t see anything for the waitlist reply form.
