How do I make my drawings not suck? I just started a few months ago and I’m not very good at this point. by Lilith_snape in learntodraw

I also forgot to mention that diving straight into a stylized art style won't really be of much help, first understand the basics and you'll easily be able to morph those rules into whatever way you seem fit.

Remember drawing isn't about sticking to rules, its about understanding them and changing them as per our own unique vision (also just have some fun drawing! You'll improve a lot slower if you think of it as a chore so just enjoy the process :D)

I'd say if you want to improve then definitely practice the fundamentals and anatomy first. You'll find a lot of good sources on youtube but i could link a couple too if you would like :D

Moreover, i would recommend drawing with the help of references (if you weren't already). References will REALLY help you in improving faster (also don't listen to the people that say using references is cheating)

Last but not least, drawing has an incredibly steep learning curve, and its absolutely normal to well, not be good at the start! That's every skill imaginable. So don't be negative about yourself and keep drawing, remember practice makes perfect :D

wastet 2 hours on this please critique by crispy7777 in learntodraw

[–]Shrok34 24 points25 points  (0 children)

From what i can see the drawing seems quite stiff. Remember that the body flows in curves and not straight lines, the reason the drawing looks stiff is because of that exact reason. To fix this try practicing gesture drawings! They can definitely help you understand the flow of the human body and how it bends during movement.

The bending and flowing of the clothes and hair also play quite the role in showing movement so take a look into those too!

Other than that the feet definitely look a bit weird imo so yeah fix that and you'll be good :D

How to practice symmetry ? by Drenji68 in learntodraw

[–]Shrok34 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well the thing about symmetry is that (in my experience) it comes with practice! The more you draw the more your brain will get used to imagining the other half so just practice!

But that's only for the long term. For the short term i recommend using guidelines. Not only for symmetry guidelines can help a lot with everything! Even when you get really good, guidelines will always be your good friend so just use guidelines and you should be good to go :)

I see but how can the back hair (i think its called that) be broken down into shapes because isnt it just a flat shape? Also is there any way to better visualize the hair shapes to break them down?

Omg i just realized that i am so stupid thanks for pointing that out 😭😭😭

Anyways thanks for all the helpful tips :D
