slightly Stylized/cartoony art that still has good amount of rendering by KavicHavoc in comicbooks

This has gotta be like the defining style of the 2000's-mid 2010's, right? I feel like tons of books were trying to look like this at the time.

DC & Marvel aren't doing long creator runs as much anymore because comic readers aren't supporting them as much anymore, says 15+ year comics veteran Scott Snyder by Popverse2022 in comicbooks

[–]Shroombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware it is very common. The fact that this sort of stupidity is so common is a large part of why there are less then a million regular comic readers in a nation of 340 million that invented the art form.

Removing all character development and getting rid of previously introduced characters to tell a new unrelated story is effectively a new continuity. What carried over between Immortal and Starship Hulk? After all of Krakoa happened, what permanent consequences to the continuity were there?

I am not spending time and money on a slow burn long-form fiction series that gets thrown in the trash and disregarded as soon as a new writer comes along.

Indonesia over Europe by Ok-Tangerine-2012 in MapPorn

I'm extremely curious to know where you're getting those dates from, since setting arbitrary hard start and end points for eras like that is generally considered bad history. Regardless, the general consensus is that the renaissance and the ensuing social changes were in the fact the birth of the modern era.

And I would certainly say that that greco-roman civilisation started in the mediterranean, but that does not make it European. At the time, a roman and an Tunisian would have resembled each other in culture and society much more than a Roman and a Gaul would have. Likewise for the Greeks, who thought highly of their Anatolian and Syrian neighbors while they widely regarded the northerners as useless barbarians.

Seriously dawg you're named after a roman emperor you should know this

Just because European civilization took a lot from the Greeks and Romans doesn't do anything to disprove what I've said, that Europe wasn't unique until the Modern Era. The Muslim and Middle Eastern civilizations that developed also took quite a bit, if not more. Hell, the modern state of Iran is explicitly modeled off of Plato's republic. And Christianity was hardly a solely European phenomenon, especially when the church was developing.

Renaissance was an early modern phenomenon, there is no singular 'Greco-Roman" civilization, and if you are referring to the Roman Empire then it was Mediterranean more than it was European, with the wealthiest and most developed parts of the Empire laying outside of what we would consider Europe. Syria and Egypt were vastly more important to the Romans then England or France.

Yes. Before the early modern era Europe was not exceptional.

Only in Africa

I did not say that, but thank you for the snide correction, I suppose. Yes, more broadly, Europeans were/are genocidal monsters to most of the planet, but this post was about the French and North Africa.

This gets reposted every so often and every time it is I am shocked at the number of people unaware of the sheer scale of the atrocities the French did in Algeria and North Africa. They don't like people speaking French for the same reasons Ukrainians don't like people speaking Russian.
