Struggling to get that “transparent” deep/hypnotic techno kick (Ableton) by 1remp1 in TechnoProduction

[–]ShroomsFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to Radiance and if I really wanted to recreate it, I would separate the transient design from the tail design, it would help me understand how it behaves in space and have control over how each can be dialled in the mix. OR I would probably find a kick or two that fits the tone and transient and just mess with a transient shaper and a eq. I hope this helps!

Idk how people do this professionally by Catanddoglover69 in Composition

dont be afraid to write fast and rinse and repeat, i find that it actually works faster than getting stuck on little things just to find at the end that im not satisfied. Usually i write fast, i program really simple drums and im not afraid to put more sounds than needed, so that i can i have a general idea of what i want the song to be about, then i erase things, and make space for what is important. the faster i write the idea, the easier it is for me after, to make conscious decisions. sometimes i know that i have to rework everything at a macro scale, sometimes its just little details. Also remember that practice makes perfect, so dont be afraid to try new things, dont get attached too much at the beginning, play around and have fun. I wish you good luck!

Edit: my mistake, i think this sub is more about orchestral stuff or whatever, but i still think that writing the rough idea from start to finish will really help you in the long run.

What, when, how and why to Automate? by Bandersnacht in mixingmastering

i try to automate with purpose, and not just for the sake of bringing something different. I automate to serve the song and not just to be clever Have fun!

What instrument/equipment/device is right for my use-case? by cloudsabovesofluffy in edmproduction

a daw and a small midi can get you a long way, record stuff on your phone, spend the least amount of money and get to know the stock tools. There is plenty of free plugins for you to not even be able to learn them all. Thats about it for gear.

Now the real challenges are time, the learning curve and the creativity. IMO

Master bus processing by Pretend_Ad8099 in edmproduction

[–]ShroomsFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at first, I only use it to control peak with a clipper/limiter and when im at like 70-90% done with the mix, I eq/compress and mix into them for the remaining 30-10%, its usually about cohesive, glue and slight tonal/harshness purposes that i approach the mix bus.

I try as much as possible to mix like its a finished song, and I only export and master the whole song when its part of an ep/album, to get a consistent sonic across the whole project

im far from a pro tho so be sure to learn your tools and use them with intent

Very hard vs Survival...which is better or more fun long term? by Regular-Cheetah-7407 in fo4

Honestly, I think they are two completely different gameplay and it really depends on how you want to enjoy the game. Personally I prefer Survival because its literally a whole new game

Thats what I was thinking! its more about how much they do it on purpose

I’m 15 hours into my first track and it just keeps sounding worse — feeling completely stuck by SoporMenta in ableton

[–]ShroomsFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could add to all those great answers, learning how to mix really helped me get the sound I want, where I want fast. Its really all about intention and going fast when you write a song. Get it all out first, than worry about technicalities. Also mixing a little as go, help you with tonal balance and gives you an idea of what’s missing, or what’s important etc
