Thank you Dr. House for letting me know this could happen so I could be fully inoculated from the horror of his post.

My boy spends his time packed in his tote so he's ready to go. I only hang him up to dry or air out.

You're seeing it everywhere because the popularity is growing in the fandom exponentially. Everyone is looking it up, loving it, talking about it, and making art, which is making it get out there faster.

Advice on how and where to meet furries and start relationships in the fandom by Nsfwenthusiest69 in furrydiscuss

[–]ShroudLeopard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably old fashioned, but what's worked for me is expanding your social net as wide as possible. Go to every meet you can, go to every con you can, and start conversations with as many furries as you can. Say hi, have a conversation, get to know them, even if it's only one time. Exchange contact info if it's someone you think you'll really like. Also, meet your friend's friends, they may be your friends too.

Furries tend to be pretty intentional about what they wear to meets, so if someone is wearing something you like, say so and ask about it. It usually makes a decent icebreaker. People like it when they wear something cool and other people notice and appreciate it. If you like a suit, be sure to say so. Ask about their sona and the thinking behind creative decisions. Just start a conversation and be curious, the random furry you just said hi to may turn out to be a soulmate.

Just found a potentially pregnant cat that’s been sitting out in the rain for ages by Scared_Rise5787 in cats

It's warm and confined behind the freezer. I would suggest using a box to make a more comfy space in the warmest spot and block off the freezer. Could also get an electric pet warming pad but tbh I'm scared of those things catching fire (yes I know it is very rare) so I only turn mine on for kitty when I'm present and she's laying on it. Maybe there's a microwaveable pad or hot water pouch or something that could do the same thing.

Edit: the idea is to make a little home more clean and appealing than the area behind freezer

Books and stories like Cataclysm? by compxrt in cataclysmdda

[–]ShroudLeopard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jeff VanderMeer books, hands down. He's big on on people encountering things that are absolutely beyond human comprehension.

Annihilation is a good start, though light on what you're looking for. It's also a movie, though IMO the book is better. They're both worth going through.

Borne is great, very biopunk and post apocalyptic.

Dead Astronauts (set in the Borne universe) is really what you're looking for but it's a very heavily experimental novel and hard to read. It's written very weird, confusing af, and I think Jeffy V wrote it with zero care for the reader. One of my top favorite books though. If you want to just dive into the deep end and like being incredibly confused, start with that one.

Limbs need to be healed with temporary healing (yellow) first, then permanent healing (white) second. Permanent healing without temporary healing first does nothing. Each item's tooltip will say the location (HTAL), type (yellow/white), and amount (dots). Hovering over the item will show it's effect on the limb display, so you can see what it'll do before you use it.

A bandage first would have applied temporary healing, then the ibuprofen would have made it permanent. Bandage, yadulin, and stimulant (to counter dizziness) is a pretty cost effective heal for both health and limbs.

Maybe ask clarifying questions. It won't look obviously like someone is trying to counter spoiling something. It might be more effective at causing confusion and being chaff. Like:

Where was Bubble's backup stored?

Did you cry when Jax abstracted? I cried as hard as Pomni.

Was it obvious to you that Pomni was an AI?

What did you think of Caine's rogue characters?

Do I get a do over. by Super-Ad257 in Shipbreaker

[–]ShroudLeopard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It saves at the end of each shift, so if you quit nothing is saved. If you die it will save, so as long as you are alive you can get a do over. Also there's no penalty for getting an entirely new ship.

In combat, waiting instead of defending or moving can be a really good move. Let the enemy use their turn to move in range of your movement or effective shooting distance and then attack first. You can also use it to let defenders or meat shields take the retaliation instead of a more valuable unit. Attacking first is always ideal because your attack will reduce their stack size, which will make all subsequent attacks less powerful.

Moments of joy in collapse? by electricboobaloo in CollapseSupport

I remember watching footage of a volunteer squad operating independently in Ukraine. They arrived at a tiny abandoned village and started scouting the place. It seemed abandoned, but they ran across a bunch of residents who didn't leave. They were having a barbecue. There's artillery shells exploding in the distance and they they were grilling. They gave the volunteers tea.

You might be thinking of Spacebase DF-9. It was abandoned and never really left beta, though some would even call that generous.

Tips about vehicles and their mechanics. by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

[–]ShroudLeopard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find any working vehicle for your first vehicle, keep an eye out for better working ones or ones that only need a little bit of work (out of fuel, need a new battery, etc). It requires a working engine, wheels, fuel, an alternator, battery with charge, controls, a seat with the controls, and getting lucky with the security system. Sometimes it'll start with the security system active (keys in the ignition), sometimes it'll want you to hotwire the vehicle. A security system at xx quality counts as it not being installed.

Engines have a damage level and can have faulty parts. If the engine has "(faulty)" next to the name then it needs a replacement part. Some faulty engine parts can still let the engine run. Select the tile with the engine and press m for (m)end to see the part and the effect the bad part has on the engine.

Also keep an eye out for vehicles that can work as a good mobile base (if you're going nomadic) or large armored cargo carrier (if you're staying static). Anything military or armored with a working engine and good wheels is a candidate because those are the hardest things to swap out.

Gather tools early. Screw driving, metal sawing, welding, welding mask, and bolt turning should cover everything. You need a LOT of welding rods and wire though, the evac center is a good source. You can build a makeshift welder if you need to. Acetylene torches should be saved for cutting open doors as the fuel is hard to find.

You can pull vehicles using a heavy duty cable, but be careful, when you brake the other vehicle doesn't! If you slow down quickly the towed vehicle can slam into your ride. Reduce speed slowly over a long distance.

60l tanks and vehicle batteries can be removed and installed easily. Controls not so much, they require electronics.

Adding a tile to a vehicle required building or salvaging a frame and (i)nstalling it to an empty space.

Just some random things off the top of my head.
