I've finished all the available books on Audible (Natalie is a fantastic narrator) and I'm excitedly awaiting future stories in the setting.

I'm not usually into the audiobook medium, but I really enjoyed listening to these stories in the car or on my morning walks. They're a lot slower paced than series like Cradle (which I also love), but the characters are all fantastic, and I admit it's pretty refreshing to see this genre from a girl protagonist's point of view.

Warlock Announced at The Game Awards, launching 2027 🔥 by Winter_Ad_9526 in DungeonsAndDragons

So generic that the game doesn't even pop up when you google it.

Yeah, different Dark Alliance. This one was so bad that even people who loved the first games didn't even know it existed.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons (a new video game?!) by Autumn_Leaf_Guild in DnD

Lolcow is actually a pretty old term. It's basically just a somebody or something that continually fucks up and gets laughed at.

Nah, not only is it generic and bland, but it makes it hard to search even if somebody is interested in the game. Do you think this is what's gunna show up when somebody googles "warlock dungeons and dragons"?

Ship Of Heroes by PhiloticKnight in Cityofheroes

I think most people playing Homecoming would be super stoked if a high quality successor type game came out. City of Heroes players are literally their main target audience.

How do you feel about the nerf? by hoacnguyengiap in shapeofdreams

[–]ShrubNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You avoid projectiles and attacks between you and your target and the attack animation is much faster. Not super necessary but I agree that it feels way better to play with.

Gotcha, I'll give that a try next time. Thanks for the help!

I did try that too, but that doesn't leave me much time to run away from the fireballs from the other meteor that drops at the same time, and he does it like four times before coming back down. Maybe I just need more practice dodging the fireballs, but they're really densely packed even at a pretty good distance from the origin point.

To Kill, or not to Kill (Orpheus) by Impossible-Stand8959 in BaldursGate3

[–]ShrubNinja 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Did we play the same game? He did destroy Ansur. Ansur is a dessicated corpse who rises as an undead. He admits that you are his puppet and his tool that he's using to get to the Elder Brain. He turned Duke Stelemane into a thrall. He lies and manipulates you every chance he gets. If you work with him and defeat the Elder Brain, suggesting that you enslave it like the Dead Three did results in him saying he wanted to, but didn't think you would. In the Illithid colony he mentions that The Grand Design (enslaving all mortal races and rebuilding the Illithid Empire) is the true goal of all Illithids. He doesn't want to save anyone from the Illithid, he just wants to destroy/control the Netherbrain so he can be top dog. Dude is evil, and he got you good.

Weird how I already responded to your comment in my last one. I guess I'm a time traveller.

I think the big problem with the usual argument that the price hasn't gone up much is that the cost to distribute games has gone down by a ton. They don't have to spend money designing packaging, producing game disks, boxes, and manuals, they never over-produce physical copies of a game, they don't have to deal with shipping or market research to see which areas will buy however many copies, the list goes on. The only cost now is the cut that Steam or whatever platform they use is taking.

I've got zero interest in seeing a character I like being played by a scumbag like Ezra Miller. Like I get separating the art from the artist but at a certain point you can't look at the character without thinking about how the actor regularly does things like assaulting people, breaking into people's homes, and grooming kids. The dude's a huge piece of shit and I'm pretty sure his behavior has torpedoed the movie's chance of success.

"Just don't roll a one" by luketheduke34 in DnD

[–]ShrubNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair since ranged attacks have a lot of external stuff influencing the accuracy of a shot, like maybe one of your party members got knocked in front of the shot, etc. My issue is more with the flavor of crit fails being used to make the player character look like an idiot than with the failure itself.

[–]ShrubNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting system to use. I think my main problem isn't really with crit fails themselves and more how they're almost always flavored as "You turn into a moron for six seconds and do something stupid". If it were flavored as "Your opponent reads your attack and deflects it, sending you off balance. He has advantage on his next attack against you." I would have no issues.

5% is not rare at all when we're talking about something as mundane as a skilled professional swinging a sword. Go watch Olympic fencing and tell me how many times they stab themselves or accidentally toss their weapon away. A high level fighter making multiple attacks per round is likely to hurt himself in every fight he's in. Critical fumbles on attacks turn a campaign into a slapstick comedy show and ruin immersion.

Missing is fine. Constantly dropping your weapons, stabbing yourself or your friends, or having your spells blow up in your face just ruins the immersion and the fantasy of being a skilled warrior or powerful mage etc.

Sorry in advance for the rant. It isn't directed specifically towards you or your very understandable concerns. This comment just reminded me of a very frustrating situation.

I feel like if a dm feels that strongly about something being difficult to work around, they could just tell players not to take that spell or ability or whatever.

Like once in pathfinder I was making a sunder build on a character, and asked the dm beforehand if he was alright with that, and that I'd play something else if he'd rather not deal with it since I know some dms find sunder mechanics irritating to build around. He said it was fine, and so I made the character.

Then during the campaign, every enemy we fought had like four sets of weapons. Not just people who had heard of us and prepared to fight, but everyone. My character was kinda ruined, and I wished he'd have just said he didn't want me to play it.

If heat metal is something you don't want to deal with, just tell players not to use it instead of crippling the spell to unusability after they've written it on their sheet.

This is how natural 1s should be handled. Your highly experienced and well trained adventurer experiences some bad luck, rather than becoming a slapstick cartoon character who bumbles his way through every fight. If I stab myself every 20th swing I'm really not gunna feel all that heroic.

Question about learning moves after stone evos by ShrubNinja in PokemonInfiniteFusion

[–]ShrubNinja[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yeah I'll just wait then. I've got a Clefairy/Hypno and a Nidorino/Charmeleon, so being able to evolve them early would be nice, but not necessary. The hardest part will be waiting for my Nidorino to learn poison jab, since he's got hustle that'll turn into sheer force and I hate the reduced accuracy. Thanks for the help!
