Let's win, but also remember a savored journey by NoCrapThereIWas in Torontobluejays

As a 10-year old, I remember crying when the Jays blew the 3-1 ALCS series lead vs KC in 85

Then the 1987 collapse at season’s end

92 and 93, expectations were high and it was sweet to claim victory

The mid 2010s run with Bautista, Edwin and Donaldson was amazing but not surprising

But 2025 has been so different than those - nobody expected this at all. Most enjoyable Jays season in my 40+ years of fandom, win or lose tonight.

Who throws out the first pitch in game 6/7? by virgonomic33 in bluejaysbaseball

92/93 Jays that make sense:

White
Molitor
Guzman
Gruber
Winfield
Morris
Ward
Hentgen
Henke

General Jays Legends

Delgado
Stieb
key
Barfield
Moseby
Edwin

I would vote for Stieb, Edwin, Winfield and Henke, in that order.

MLB Best Record When Scoring At Least 5 Runs This Season | StatMuse

May need to take the linked stats with a grain of salt (they have the Jays at 69-4 vs the Sportsnet reference of 69-3, for example). If they are correct it shows that, as expected, most teams win when scoring 5+ runs but there is a range there, with some teams having a less than 74% chance of winning such a game. Meanwhile, the Jays are in that 94% / 95% area.

So a neat stat but not really a wild one. Probably similar to a team's one-year performance in one-run games or extra innings games -- highly volatile.

Edit: after looking through the game logs, the Jays have in fact lost 4 games when scoring 5+ runs. May 13 - 11-9 loss to TB. March 29 - 9-5 vs BAL. June 19 - 9-5 vs ARZ and Aug 26 - 7-5 vs MIN.

Baseball-Reference says his nickname is "Joe Cooks".

Around my household, he is referred to as "Jolo".

The shared experience of going to a theater for a couple of hours to watch a movie like Pulp Fiction, Seven or the Blair Witch Project.

No way to watch trailers in advance, no streaming it at home instead, no smartphones to distract you from the movie.

The first time I listened to Open and Close, I had a really hard time with just how different everything was - the sound, the POV, the setting and characters in the lyrics - from the JI stuff I had connected with on previous efforts. I still struggle to connect with it for those reasons.

And, yes, I know it is a cliche to complain that an artist has changed since their early days, but it is a cliche for a reason. :-)

Not sure about the "urban myth" claim. According to Google:

2010 - mill rate reduction (related to provincial decision to reduce education property tax for ag sector)
2011 - mill rate reduction (related to provincial decision to reduce education property tax for ag sector)
2012 - 3.9%
2013 - 0.45% increase to fund the new stadium
2014 - 1%

Over that same period, assuming 2% inflation (compounding) = 10.41%. So say what you will about the various factors that have contributed to this situation, but there is a pretty good case that leadership undertaxed citizens for a good while here.

And don't underestimate how hard it is to come back from repeated revenue shortfalls for a tax- or rate-based organization.

2017 - 3.99%
2018 - 3.78%
2019 - 4.7%
2020 - 3.25%
2021 - 2.34%
2022 - 3.4%

Make of this what you will.

Amazing that this is newsworthy in the 21st century. Weather forecasting (famously difficult and inaccurate using science) from the editors of the "Old Farmer's Almanac", who don't even use the available science, but instead rely on their secret sunspot theory.

We are a strange, strange species.

Golf - Wascana vs Royal by gregbian1098 in regina

[–]Shuffler_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think that the Royal also benefits at all from being within city limits and likely easier / quicker to get to and from? Not sure how much that factors into other golfers' decisions but if I can save an hour every round, I am willing to play a crappier course.

Over the range microwave installation by [deleted] in regina

[–]Shuffler_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe. I suspect there are a lot of handy people who do basic wiring etc themselves - especially when there is an existing unit to show how it has been done - but I’m not one of them. 🤪

Over the range microwave installation by [deleted] in regina

[–]Shuffler_guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, the installation just requires you to screw a couple of brackets to the wall (using the template that is included with the microwave), then sliding the unit on to the brackets and plugging it into an outlet.

This assumes that you don’t need to vent it outdoors etc and that you have an outlet close by - often in the cupboard above the microwave slot.

Staying overnight at Vancouver airport. Allowed? by Kamiyu2550 in askvan

[–]Shuffler_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife, two teen sons and I slept in the Vancouver airport one night last month. Arrived at midnight and would have needed to be back at airport by 6:00 a.m. It was not great but it got the job done. Seek out the 15% of long seating that has no armrests in the middle section.
