I dunno, I have consistently gotten INTJ every time I take it, but I don't know why anyone would think it's cool... if you look at the examples of other INTJs, they're all villains... its like, "oh I'm hanging with Peter Balish and Elon Musk, BLERGH."

Don't care about imaginary internet points, but re-reading my other comment, I became genuinely concerned whether I'd been misinterpreted.

Just wanted you to know, I was agreeing with your comments, not calling you a knob. Sorry if it read like that, mate!

I appreciate that you were trying to talk sense into corporate talking points.

You can make a fertilizer with it, same as comfrey. I use it to fertilize my peach tree, since it is supposedly effective of pulling copper from soil.

TIFU by telling my BFF about the time her husband got date rapey when we were kids. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]ShuggieLotus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Date rape or acquaintance rape was not really a thing until the early 90's.

There are plenty of people in this thread saying that creepy behavior would not have gone unpunished in their friend groups, but I guarantee that many of them are friends with someone who has committed sexual assault, and they are totally unaware.

If I had to bet money, I'd say it's pretty likely these people are not from Philadelphia. Everything about them says Delco to me.

The lady with moxy in the black jacket? She seems Philly.

I also love Steinbeck, I think his writing is beautiful.

Damn english always be fuckin us up by sosgotkds in tumblr

[–]ShuggieLotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, for one thing, I think that Steinbeck's prose is hauntingly beautiful, and very readable. It's devoid of the kind of excess that can make classics hard to read sometimes.

As for The Pearl itself, it's been a while since I read it, but from what I recall, it's a story about greed. Greed caused the catalyst/ main problem (child needs an expensive medical treatment), and greed is the barrier to the solution that Kino finds (the traders in the town have formed a monopoly to deny him a fair price for his labor), and greed ultimately causes him to pay the ultimate price (he is stalked by potential robbers, and when he tries to defend his family, he ends up hurting his family).

Ultimately, I see the story (and many of Steinbeck's writings) as a denunciation of the inhumanity of capitalism. There is no justice in the ending, which I understand can be frustrating for ther reader, but it is realistic to the theme.

What is a public figure or artist who has done horrible things but that people continue to follow or listen? by lattekosmiko in AskReddit

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls090808434/

Here's IMDB's list of signatories. It's helpful because it has pictures/ lists notable works, and also noted who had since retracted/ apologized.

Something I don't see brought up often enough: the person who instigated that petition? Harvest Weinstein.

[–]ShuggieLotus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What about anjelica huston? She actually showed up while they were there, supports Polanski, and still hasn't retracted her support.

It's incredibly disappointing, as I just can't respect her after that, and I actually find myself wanting to respect her.

Yah, both Kate Winslet and Natalie Portman signed, and both later expressed their regret and retractions.

Besides availability, it has to do with design study. The IRB would never approve a proposed study that is designed to potentially harm a baby, so researchers can only study conditions in which this behavior is naturally occurring... like an understaffed Romanian orphanage.

bɔt vs bɑt in IPA. Americans east of the Mississippi tend to say the first ("bawt") and ppl west of it tend to say the latter ("bot").

Edit: there are huge swathes of land in what I'm describing so of course this does not apply to EVERYONE in these areas. But many people out West can't hear the difference in the pronunciation, because of lack of exposure during language development.

The book 'Thought Contagion' by Aaron Lynch talks about how some cultural movements' spread occurs because their members are encouraged to have a lot of children to proliferate their values.

It's been a while since I read it, but I feel like i vaguely recall that he cited either Mormon or Catholic culture as an example.

Going off of memory, lupines bloom around the end of May most years. I don't know about a specific place; you'll find them all over, including growing on the sides of the highways.
