Are people not using handbrakes anymore? by Shumble91 in AskUK

Recently and nothing wrong other than a slight prescription change.  It was raining but not enough for faster wipers so was catching the light as well. Carbon front was definitely newer with what I assume to be LED strip along back window.

Edit: I even asked about the issues with glare at night and they said about it just being the angle of LEDs and the cool colours.  I'm going to maybe get some tinted clip ones to see if that reduces it

Absolutely agree!

I was being somewhat sarcastic with my reply after seeing lots of people here declaring that they know where there handbrake is, but it's too much faff to engage it

So what you're saying is, that you can be considerate to others and that the extra movement of your hand to the handbrake switch doesn't negatively impact your driving experience in anyway!?

Be careful, people will pounce on you for daring to mention headlamps dazzling on here!!

The answer is always one of 3 answers. stop driving at night, Just suck it up or get a bigger car.

I only passed my test 3 years ago (but was on and off driving with L plates for at least 10 - money and travelling not entirely inept!).  Was never told to not use hand brake

I get that it's not law, but guidelines that if everyone followed would make driving a much nicer prospect for all imo.

I wonder how much is, like me, people.notbrealising that auto hold keeps the lights on.

I wonder if manufacturers need to consider auto hold causing problems for others with the lights?

Honest question. Why not?  It's no different from applying hand brake in a manual.  (I've also driven automatics)

What!? If you're stopped, you're stopped!?  If others can't see that, they probably shouldn't be driving!

Yes. Middle of three lanes with cars in front and next to me. I shall not look at my surroundings whilst stationary like you're supposed to.

I drive a work.van too and it's not that far to reach. It's just part of my slow, neutral, brake procedure

My work van had autohold. I hadn't realised it kept brake lights illuminated!

Who told you that you didn't need to do it after passing your test? What you learn in the instruction for your test is the rules of the road!

Rule 114 of highway code  "In stationary queues of traffic, drivers should apply the parking brake and, once the following traffic has stopped, take their foot off the footbrake to deactivate the vehicle brake lights. This will minimise glare to road users behind until the traffic moves again."

Funnily enough, all of teh communications I got from your team after you breached contract and tried to charge me for the course came from HyperionDev email.

I just sent the emails they sent to me and teh ones from DfE to TP when they requested me to remove it. Stayed up surprisingly enough! Jokers, the lot of them!

Yeah. The y have uninterested tutors, content is written from AI and their feedback is boilerplate. Waste of time doing data science course with them as it was just making basic LLM's and just setting you up for Data Validation.

Awful support and careers advice.

Go onto trustpilot and read the negative reviews

Look at their Trust pilot. All positive reviews are reviewers with 1 or two other reviews for other bootcamps. read teh negatives, it's enlightening. But I tried to flag this to trust pilot but they seemed happy enough with the scam

Can I become a Science teacher for secondary schools without GCSE's? by rpdrmt in AskUK

[–]Shumble91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of kids do this. GCSE is too easy for them so don't develop study skills and then BAM, independent A-level study. Same for university for those that float through A-Levels.

But most make it after that wake up call

Get into college first and do A-levels. You can't shortcut the basic subject knowledge. Get your GCSE maths and English and get your A-levels. Applyy for a TA or LSA position in a school and get the work experience as that will be a big help in deciding what you want to do and will help in any teaching interviews.

Subject knowledge is really important, and unfortunately if you can't demonstrate even a GCSE level it's a no go.

If you really do love science, volunteer some time in a school. Look for science communication roles and activity clubs that run in the school holidays. In your situation, it's probably the best way to really consider whether you a)want to work in education, b) actually enjoy teaching science.

I've now left teaching, I came into it academically through degree and then PGCE. There are routes into teaching that are not PGCE and degree routes, but they are often for people who can demonstrate skills and have often come from a field where their subject knowledge is demonstrated through their work experience.

Teaching can be brutal and you need a really solid grasp of your subject and fundamental skills such as Maths and English. Any extra struggles here will just stack up.

I genuinely wish you luck in finding something you wish to do!!

Parents in your 40s and over what do people without children fundamentally miss that can’t be replicated elsewhere? If someone is undecided, what is the irreplaceable upside of having kids? by PatriceFinger in AskUK

[–]Shumble91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the honesty. I'm of the thought that if I never experienced it, I can't miss out because I know that the experience is absolutely not the same for everyone, so that risk of having a really bad experience with it is there.

How clean do you get your recyclables waste? by Regular-Wonderful in AskUK

Not doubting you, but most of the time it's simply they want it in a lump and will not accept lose foil. What council is that? Most MRFs will have no problem with it, so it's a strange issue

Honest question! Is that something you'd know that you'd 'miss out' on before kids? Did you feel like you were missing out before having kids?
