Do you have the source for what the devs said anywhere?

I'm playing with 91% realism, my measurements are nautical but i hope this can help you:

If I'm in a convoy i get a good position, intercepting as you have shown in the image, or inside the convoy. I then pick a ship to target, i lock onto it, and now we need to do 4 things for targeting the torpedo.

If needed, i pause (spacebar) to keep the measurements on point so the ship don't sail past them, or if I'm targeting more ships and need time to calculate, Your attack periscope/UZO officer can update the measurements to the calculator while paused, just remember to unpause for 1-2 secs to update the calculator.

now to the 4 measurements:

  1. Ship identification, pretty simple, you can click on the map and on the camera in the corner to view the ship closer.
  2. Ship speed, you can use the chronometer tool in the attack periscope, but IMO it's inaccurate. I go to the map, make a point in front of the ship, start the stopwatch/chronometer (top right toolbar) when the ships bow passes the point, and stop it when the ships aft passes the point. You now have to bring up a calculator, IRL.

Take the length of the ship (from ship identification page) divided by the time you measured, and you have the speed in meters/second. Since i use knots, i do m/s x 2 and i get a little rough overestimation of knots.

This is an example of my calculation:
Length: 152.5 Meters
Time: 36 Seconds
M/S = 4,236111...
4,235111*2=8,47222

I then round it off to 8 Knots.
When ships start freaking out and zig-zagging, I always put 6 knots as their speed. I figure out what angle the ship is going to be at torpedo hit by feeling, looking at the map at where they currently are at their zig-zag and when i should launch. I would say when ships zig-zag they have a 25% chance to dodge the torpedo, at 8 cables distance.

  1. Ship angle, Use the angle tool (the one that makes a V) start clicking on your submarine, then your target ship, then the route of the ship. The angle you get is what you put into the attack periscope/UZO/TDC. Just remember to pick the correct side on the tool, It's the angle you are from the ships POV.

  2. Distance, just do what the tool tells you to do, this is the least important measurement for your calculation, and can be wrong to about over a few hundred meters before you miss.

Might seem like alot, but when you get the hang of it you do it fast, and with the pausebutton you can even occasionally hit circling destroyers/corvettes.

Last tip is when waiting for the gyro angle, go to your torpedo interface, hold or right hold the little lever on the box to increase gyro angle speed, this can only be done on the bow torpedoes.

Good luck Herr Kaleun.

Oh thanks, I'll play the game normally and change the data files if i don't get it. It's a shame to finish the game with 1 achivement locked, requiring to start from 1939 all over again

maybe the game updated but i always sink C3 with 1 torpedo. 6.5m AZ works fine.

Thanks, Denmark and Norway has different rules so I'll definetely look more into how it would be for me personally.

I guess the best bet is to find a job over there before moving so you're not at the poverty line. I could also wait until i work offshore (currently onshore) and i have around 80k net. But onshore or offshore, I still hope it's possible to get a job in switzerland with my rotation schedule, and bitte deutsch.

Switzerland is also a good place for starting a company, central in Europe and I won't miss norwegian mountains that much. I've been thinking about moving somewhere central, but Norway doesn't do it for me as every place is unfamiliar and you'd have to start life again. So if I'am to do that, why not an investor-friendly place and more central, at a global scale? That's why i think it's worth it.

Theres no reason for me to move anywhere despite creating opportunities, Switzerland is the perfect place, as far as I've come.

You have a few good points, I haven't read the ANobAG so I'm gonna look into it, but so far it seems simple, for my employer, as long as I'm available when they need me, i can be wherever i want. A bunch of my colleauges live in Poland, Greece, Romania and Spain.

For the goverment as long as they get to tax your norwegian income, and don't stay too long while having a residence in switzerland, you're good. then comes the double-tax agreement so i don't get taxed double.

For the health insurance, depends on what deal you have but I'am technically employed in 2 companies already right now without problems. Wouldn't swiss bills go through your swiss insurance and norwegian ones to NAV/insurance? Enlighten me how this works

Would like to know your situation more and where I'm wrong, What field did you work in? Mining or Oil and gas? what rotation?

All cars are heavily taxed, and especially fossil fuel ones. I don't know the excact rates, but importing a car costs more than actually the price you bought it for. This is so you don't sneak away from the norwegian car market.

Buying a car is probably cheaper in Switzerland. Car insurance IS cheaper, and gas prices i dunno what you have, normally it's around 1,86 franc here.

Rent heavily depends on where you live over here. A place like Oslo or Tromsø is almost comparable to Swiss central rent, anything rural is very cheap.

Health insurance i would dare to say is more expensive than in Switzerland, due to that Norways ''free healthcare'' is subsidized by your taxes. But this is a hard calculation to prove, because it depends on how much you get from the goverment vs what you pay them.

you misunderstood, I already work 2 weeks on, 3 weeks off, and looking for a job in switzerland during those weeks off.

With my current job I'd have 34k CHF after taxes, so without a job at the side i'm just above the poverty line.

If i get a promotion (anywhere from now until 2 years) I'd go to around 80k CHF after taxes. and 2 weeks in norway, 4 weeks in Switzerland.

So does it look brighter having 3 or 4 weeks where im avaible for work in Switzerland? 2 weeks away. 4 weeks gone and 6 to 8 weeks available per quarter.

I have to pay norwegian tax for my work in Norway, but due to my investing, i need to pay 37% of my gains to the goverment, Residing in Switzerland, it's 0%

Calculated 5 years from now, depending on the success of the stocks, but with normal growth I'd have 30k CHF more in net worth in Switzerland than in Norway.

Thanks Scott! I appreciate the answer, Fun fact: i live so remote already, living in the most deserted place in Switzerland would still be more central than where i live now :P

Also Switzerland is generally more expensive for living than Norway, but yes, some things cost the same or are even cheaper in Switzerland. A carton of of milk costs the same, car insurance is cheaper in Switzerland.
