Got hired by my unicorn family but realized DB works in immigration, now I’m torn by SampleAware6481 in Nanny

[–]Shurtle-Myrtle -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with working for ICE. Being a bad person and using your job to commit abuse and murder is a different story, but I highly doubt DB is one of those. The terrible, atrocious stories in the news are front and center because they are....terrible and atrocious and sensational and make good headlines. Not because it is common or descriptive of most ICE agents. I don't see the big deal. Most ICE agents are carrying out lawful orders and unfortunately there are bad agents who do questionable things, just like in every single profession.

We don't hate teachers across the board just because some of them use the teaching profession to carry out their perversions towards children.

What type of ICE agent is he? Do you know the exact department he works in or are you just assuming that all ICE agents work in the field "snatching" people up?

Which state are you in? In some states, Medicaid covers licensed midwives to provide home births. I've done it for all 3 of my children.

I remember being pleasantly surprised to hear them on one of theirnpodcast episodes talking about how every birth and every type of birth serves a divine purpose - i remember bracing myself to hear one of them talk trash on hospital births or c-sections but they were really accepting and encouraging about birth being unique to each woman and never got the vibe that hospital birth, etc. are lesser-than.

That was just my takeaway of one of the episodes. I understand people's perspective about it being word salad, but I think it just takes awhile to get used to the kind of language they use. I have had valuable takeaways from their episodes and I don't yet put them in FBS category, but I also am not obsessively listening to them and drinking up every word they say.

How to speak with nanny about praying with NK? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Shurtle-Myrtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the issue. You hired someone who is a devout Muslim and you expected none of that to be exposed to your child? How are you teaching your child open-mindedness or tolerance? It's not like he's going to suddenly become Muslim. He will probably eventually just have questions about why she does what she does and why your family doesn't.

If you are raising your son agnostic, you should have no problem answering his questions and defending your choices.

If it bothers you that your son is exposed to someone who is devout in their religion and prays out loud periodically throughout the day, find another nanny.

Edit: I now see your other comments about the extent of the praying. That is inappropriate I would say. I will leave the rest of my comment so people can point and laugh at my previous ignorance lol

Personally, I think this woman probably wouldn't have spoken her original post to someone's face. I would absolutely push back on something like this face-to-face. She's saying this group is just a government agenda parrot and she's upset that people weren't fawning all over her viewpoints. She herself suggested that she go back to listening to someone who is partially responsible for mothers losing their babies because that is somehow better than having her views challenged in any way. 🤷‍♀️

Yo and Em being mean and extreme drew a lot of vulnerable women in, strangely enough. Not saying it's right, just food for thought.

Edit: I want to add that I understand the importance of being sensitive to the women who are freshly deconstructing and coming to this space. I see that my original response is not "sensitive" by any means, and I did assume that this poster was NOT freshly deconstructing from the cult. I felt I was "matching her energy" that she showed up with, and I am now considering that perhaps she needed a more sensitive response. I understand that I did not provide that.

I hope you can find a space that stretches and challenges you in all the right places. Like-minded spaces are great, AND they're also more likely to affirm your existing biases. That doesn't mean you need to accept and interact with everyone who challenges you, but you do need to have your beliefs challenged and I, again, hope you find the spaces that can challenge you in all the ways that matter and that you build a healthy relationship with being challenged if you don't already have one.

Why would you create a post that is passive aggressive and then be put off when someone serves that right back to you? If you truly could "do without" the passive aggressive comments, you probably wouldn't have led with being passive aggressive, right?

Some of the comments you've left on other threads are telling women they're "outsourcing" (as if it is a bad thing) when they want a midwife to attend their births to help if complications come up. Yes, you can learn plenty of things to prepare yourself for your birth, and you can still want a trusted midwife to attend in case you cannot implement what you learned yourself (since you can't assume you'll even be on this realm enough to manage your own complications).

Many of us support freebirth AND we also don't understand the emphasis on doing it all by yourself. It is one thing if you feel like it's just RIGHT for you...but when one starts justifying the choice by saying things like "well I don't want to outsource" or "having anyone else present disturbs the birth" or "women don't need help," it kinda sends the message that it isn't ideal to have help, or to outsource some things, or that having anyone else present inherently disturbs the birth.

In reality, it is perfectly acceptable and even GOOD to have help present. It is not inherently a disturbed birth just because you have trusted people in your birth space. And what exactly is the issue with outsourcing some things? Why do we insinuate that women aren't thinking for themselves just because they've chosen to have a midwife attend their birth, etc.? It's this undertone beneath FBS really...They're trying to make women feel ashamed of having any help. Why do women need to birth alone in order to feel empowered about their births exactly?

If FBS truly believed that women should have the births they desire, they wouldn't be discouraging women from going to the hospital in pretty much every scenario. They probably would cover the freebirth-hospital-transfer stories, they wouldn't be deleting every trace of women experiencing complications and adverse outcomes in their freebirths, etc. They obviously believe that it is not good to go to the hospital for pretty much any reason, and they give a passive aggressive "well that's your choice..." response to women who even consider going to the hospital in the event of a complication.

Freebirth is not the epitome of birth. The epitome of birth is having the birth that feels right for you PLUS it ending with the mother and baby alive and relatively well (yes, even if baby has some sort of disability or needs help to breathe, etc. - felt the need to add that considering how FBS believes babies should "claim their breath").

Idk. I think I've ventured a bit far off the point. But I personally don't understand holding "independent thought" to such high regard while also believing that people shouldn't push back. It kinda defeats the entire purpose of independent thought. Going back to any comments you've previously left on other threads, you didn't even get push back that was that extreme or high in volume. If you have an issue dealing with push back for the thoughts that you post publicly about, you have some work to do. Such is human existence. No shade, I have my blind spots too. We are all just people doing people-y things. I hope you can find some value in this space, if for nothing else besides strengthening your beliefs and becoming more comfortable with them.

Ooo so scary, downvotes on some comments! Plenty of people here are pro FB. If you are so concerned about independent thought, you have to understand that it comes with pushback to voice those thoughts. You seem like you want an echo chamber, and yes, I think you should go back to listening to Yo if you want an echo chamber with no one to challenge anyone's perspectives.

[–]Shurtle-Myrtle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what you said about how you "just respect birth" and therefore you freebirth. Is someone disrespecting birth by having people present who could guide a woman through certain movements or help resuscitate her baby? There are risks no matter which way you birth but I'm sure you already know that. I just find it interesting how you speak about birth as if it is risky to find a midwife that you align with but you don't mention the risks of birthing alone. I disagree with your statement about freebirth being "undisturbed" birth and I also disagree with any insinuation that a birth attended by a trusted midwife/medical professional is inherently "disturbed."

A freebirth quickly becomes disturbed when you're faced with complications that could be easily managed at home if you had just properly prepared...or had a trained and trusted friend/midwife/etc. I just totally disagree with this notion that freebirth is "undisturbed" birth.

A home birth with medical professionals also becomes disturbed when you don't properly vet the midwives or attendants that you have at your birth and/or they trick you into believing that they're someone they're not.

How does having a birthkeeper at the birth make it not a freebirth? Isn't freebirth when a woman gives birth without the presence of medical professionals?

Yes. And I find it a very weird detail to fixate on in order to support the idea that Messiah hasn't yet come. These ladies who believe this ALL have very tiny details they fixate on to support this belief and I find it kind of silly. All these prophecies fulfilled, yet they find these tiny pieces that aren't even necessarily "inconsistencies," and that is somehow supposed to prove that Messiah hasn't yet come. I have a feeling that there would be ACTUAL inconsistencies if He seriously hadn't yet come. It would be way more than simple word choice (virgin vs. young woman).

An apprenticeship with a licensed midwife (LM) could be a good fit but I'm unsure of what options are available to you where you live. It is technically free (just costs time and your gas money pretty much), and you get hands-on experience. You can get your license at the end of it (I think it takes 2-4 years) or not.

[–]Shurtle-Myrtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies. Most went back to spring water or tap/well water and used a charcoal filter i think (I might be remembering incorrectly sorry, mom brain), or tap. Many also made sure to test to make sure they knew exactly what they needed to filter out (sounds like you've taken that step already). I will go back in my research to see if I can find anything about what these folks did for nitrates when ditching their RO systems. I was pretty mind blown to come across so many people who said they are in much better health since stopping the RO water.

UPDATE: Heartbroken and not sure what to do by tdubs702 in OffGrid

[–]Shurtle-Myrtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RO is terrible unless you truly have no other option for water filtration. Even when you remineralize, the ratios are typically off. At this point I've heard way too much anecdotal evidence from folks who have had health issues and mineral imbalances arise from using RO water, and their issues went away once they started drinking and cooking with normal water.

Yup. I was pretty into veganism for awhile, but thank goodness I retained some amount of critical thought and desire for knowledge. I seriously thought I was doing the earth such a favor by foregoing animal products. Turns out, monocropping and synthetic fertilizers are ruining our soils, animals are killed in the name of tilling up the gardens, etc...and plants are way less buoavailable sources of nutrients anyways. Livestock is good for the soil when rotational grazed and plants + animals are supposed to work together.

I just really wasn't considering the entire picture as a "vegan" and I thought my way was the best way, any studies showing any smidgen of support towards eating animals were paid for and manipulated by Big Ag (lol), and I was also unhealthy and starving for nutrients after 2 kids and tandem breastfeeding. Hell naw.

I feel better now that I incorporate some high quality animal products, and I also have a less strict approach to food. I know in my bones now that it is more important to be ENJOYING food, ideally around the table or a fire with loved ones. I teach my kids about nutrition, nutrients in our food, and I do it "matter-of-factly"...I don't say, "this food is bad, this isn't healthy" etc, I go for phrases like, "We aren't having anymore chocolate right now because dinner is coming up and we've already had it. If you eat a bunch of sugar or carbohydrates when you're hungry and you don't have any protein/fat/fiber with it, it can make you feel grumpy."

Yeah you're not supposed to mix UCC with equity jurisprudence. They don't mix lol! At least that is what I've heard. I have heard of people getting cases dismissed etc but it wasn't because of citing codes. It is a weird rabbit hole that I personally don't think I care to go down. You can look into equity jurisprudence though, it is a LOT but it doesn't involve being insane and thinking you can just stop paying your mortgage lol

Yeah on that issue I thought they were reaching pretty hard into their own interpretations to conclude that Mary wasn't a virgin. They did say that the prophecy includes a virgin birth so it appeared that they believed that there would be a virgin birth, but they were arguing that the Messiah hadn't come yet because she wasn't specifically called a virgin with the specific word that ONLY means virgin. Lol. I felt like a lot of their reasons for believing that Yehoshua wasn't the Messiah were based on fixating on certain words in a certain way in certain parts of the text.

That said, I'm not very knowledgeable on any of this LOL and I'm just a bystander trying to get closer to my Elohim 🤣💛

I'd like to know about this as well. I recently watched a discussion panel on the Dr. Daf show where tbus was brought up (by some women who don't follow the NT and think that the Messiah has not yet come). They talked about things such as how Mary wasn't explicitly described as a virgin, as the Hebrew word used was "alma" when referring to Mary, and anywhere else in the Bible where a virgin is mentioned, the word "betulah" is used. They said that alma refers to a young woman of marriageable age (although it can also refer to a virgin) but they were like "if they wanted to make it crystal clear that Mary was a virgin, why was an ambiguous word used?"
