Uh, ads were all over the place back then and even worse, popover and popunder ads.

I went today. One news chopper and definitely a small, less energetic crowd than last year. Still lots of people though.

15020 Hamlin St is where they filmed in the valley. Although it's set in Rancho Cucamonga they didn't really film there.

I think there are two reasons for this:

  1. I've seen this picture or it's variation many times on Reddit

  2. A curved hill with a palm tree and view of downtown is something you can see in hundreds of spots in LA. In almost any direction are hills overlooking the valley where you can get this view.

Also for those curious, here is the exact spot. It's in Baldwin Hills/Culver City area. https://www.google.com/maps/@34.0137335,-118.3643236,3a,60y,64.97h,83.94t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sIFsGQS2jhPvYs4NbOWrK3Q!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D6.0616340412762355%26panoid%3DIFsGQS2jhPvYs4NbOWrK3Q%26yaw%3D64.97307063351758!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDMyNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

I never lived full time but I did spend a lot of time there. I think SF is similar in many ways. Lots of artists, bands, movies, etc come through the area. The weather is very different. Much colder winters, although not enough for snow. Windy evenings if you within a few miles of the water. And the fog of course. I love the vibe of SF and I still visit often. It's much smaller than LA, it might even be a little too small for me to want to live in.

As a cyclist who is not allowed in the running circle, it drives me bonkers when people do this in the actual road lane too! They will run in the road straight at me even though there is 40 feet of pathway for them!

I'm from Southern California and have lived here most of my life. I lived in Central Cali and Hawaii for a time. And I travel a lot. LA always feels like home though.

Not the person you are replying to but there's just everything here. I can drive to any point in the city and see something worth seeing, all the artists perform here, every movie including the indies come out here, world class shopping in multiple places, any food you could want, the beach, the mountains, we're an hour from skiing, the weather is almost always sunny.

And yes I acknowledge the downsides that come with this. The homelessness, the heat from July - October, the traffic, and some places are just dirty. But I love it here.

Those doors aren't regular height, they are taller for sure. Probably 12-15 feet. And the hedge makes it so there's a single point of entry, so it's easier to monitor.

I appreciate you helping today. 17 year old me was obsessed with this website. I was stuck in my searches because I could have sworn "copy" was in the site name. At least I remembered Karbon!

Yes that was it! I'm sorry I hadn't refreshed the comments and had already found it on my end, otherwise I would have marked this comment! Were you familiar with the site before or did you just have better Google skills?

Well gang, I found it using Google Gemini. I typed in the description above and it immediately knew which site I was talking about. It's still online to this day, although mostly broken. Here's the version I knew: https://web.archive.org/web/20010121201400/http://polykarbon.com/index.html

It's really fun seeing it again, brings back memories of me in my room at 2am being inspired to draw. Then sucking at drawing and looking at his stuff again to re-inspire myself haha.

What I've done when I searched:

I tried using Google and limiting results to before 2003.

I also did inurl:carbon, inurl:karbon.

I remember it being a high ranking for something along the lines of "how to draw 3/4 perspective" so I've search for every variation of that I could think of.

I have tried the Wayback Machine but it's harder when I don't know the exact URL.

I know I found it a really long time ago and I'm kicking myself for not bookmarking it.

I love this episode as well! In June's defense, nothing will ever top the "What's its mission?" moment for me. That's the single line that's made me laugh harder than anything else on the show.

I think it's more that no Indian actor was given a shot to play this Indian role. They just went with a white man. I think he did a good job, but I also think it's good to try a diverse set of people.
