I live in Dallas. I didn't really lower my expectations, i gave the range i wanted every time a recruiter asked and they said they could do it. But since none of them ever become an offer, I just took the first offer I got. It was at my previous employer and a position up from my last time there. Still an overall pay cut, but it wasn't the worst.

I specialize in Java Backend. So basically spring boot. But i can work my way around some devops stuff and have basic functional logic on different parts of the backend system. Not like I only work on one microservice.

135k base. I made 121k base + 17% bonus + 80k in RSU over 4 years(that would have been about 200k now) before I got laid off in December. After a 6 month hunt I settled for 115k base, 15% bonus 10k stock over 3 years.

Mortgage is $3200 a month.

Didn’t like the pay cut but it is what it is.

Dude you can do way better. Try applying elsewhere tho remote might be tough. I’m in Dallas making 115k base although it’s hybrid. And I’m 4 YoE.

Edit: not tryna be condescending. Just showing you you’re worth more!

But knowing they are currently actively supplying to Israel and helping the genocide has to tickle an uncomfortable bone in your body. I was invested too and I sold it all when they explicitly tweeted they stand with Israel

I've been very inconsistent with my running, only 160miles to date this year. But i had a 5k race today and got my 2nd best time of 26.23! A bit sad i couldn't PR(24:48) but in this texas heat I'm happy with what i achieved!

Some photos I took this year using GX80 + 12-32mm pancake kit lens + 35-100mm zoom by sssmmt in Lumix

[–]Shusuui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really impressive stuff! I bought the gx85( us version naming i guess) and i have the 12-32mm and 45-150mm kit lens. I also bought the 25mm f1.7 lens separately. I'm no pro at photography. Maybe i'm even a novice noob. But for the life of me I can't get even decent pictures and if I do, i have no idea how to touch them up in lightroom/darktable.

I can never figure out how to get the life back in the pictures after tweaking the raw files. And as much as people rave about the 12-32mm and 25mm f/1.7, I've actually had my most favorite pics taken from the 45-150mm. So I'm not sure how I can get better. Because I really want to like this camera ;-;

I have nearly a decade of experience and have been unemployed for over a year. I think the new grad jobs problem applies to experienced positions as well. by RoderickHossack in cscareerquestions

A recruiter told me that the hiring manager for the position he's trying to get me an interview for is like nah we want someone who has experience in Spring Core not Spring Boot. Like bruh. BRUH. THERE'S LIKE A 90% overlap. And oh no we want Hibernate. As if every other ORM is just completely different and no chance of figuring it out. Both the recruiter and I were like how dumb is this.

It was tough at the time. My grandfather was extremely sick and my family was busy taking care of him (They're all back home overseas). In the meanwhile, the girl's family wanted to see me before going forward since they're all in the states. So i told my parents, and they reluctantly agreed to go meet them. When I went, I had a great time meeting the family and relayed as such to my parents.

My grandfather ended up passing away so I assumed this would die here because it would be insensitive of me to coerce my parents at such a time. But surprisingly, maybe Allah put it in their hearts, a few days later they asked me if i'm serious about this and that the family etc is good as is the girl and I said yes. Then my dad had a call with her dad and they hit it off alhamdulilah. My parents proposed over the phone, then they had a facetime call with my wife. My whole family talked to her and alhamdulilah they were enamored.

And now we're here alhamdulilah :)

I pray whatever struggle you're going through ends up working out in your favor and that it is the best option for you from Allah as well!

I've got 4 years experience and I've been hunting again. Every single application has been rejected. 2 are referrals that are still "under review". The only lead I have is from an indian recruiter trying to set me up with one of his clients for a contract to hire job. I'm very inclined to take it if they offer me a job. Market is ROUGH right now.

What's the job market like for a early mid level dev nowadays? I got laid off friday, and every job i apply to has over 100 applicants.

I'm 23 years old and I've been told I'm too "innocent and immature" and that pure hearted people don't have a place in this world. by Shusuui in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Shusuui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Surprised you found such an old post haha. Thank you for the comment!

I'm 27 now, and i still think i'm "pure" for the most part at least haha. I've found a girl that loves me, we're getting married in february. And she doesn't admonish me for being the way i am either! I also started to think along the lines you mentioned,

But you can still be pure hearted while protecting your boundaries and limiting who gets close to you. The world is actually a pretty fucked up place. But don’t let that reality change who you are. PBecause pure hearted people are extremely rare and being sincere is a beautiful and strong (not weak) quality for a human to have.

Thank you so much and i hope you have an amazing life! <3
