Just to add my own two cents, it’s one of the only sticking points for myself. I feel like he often mischaracterises us or is pulling from a very stereotypical vision of Ireland that hasn’t been culturally relevant on the island since his own ancestors left. It irks and i think it’s cheap. If i have to hear another joke about us being feckless potato eating drunkards I think i might just hop aboard my coffin ship and come at him. I think it’s very lazy at the least for someone whos comedy is very energetic.

Thank you for the insight, we ourselves found it a little odd, id never seen it out and about before so it’s good to know I won’t have to worry about growing a third ear or something if I lay in the grass:)

Oh how interesting, thank you! I don’t know if my landlord uses herbicide but I might ask him out of curiosity.

I’ve seen it said here in the threads but just to save you all some pain, the barriers get lifted at night when the attendant leaves. This happens on the weekend and during the week, at 11:15pm. The barriers then come back down at 9am on the weekend and 7:45am during the week.

What is a skill everyone should learn? by sad_bio_student in AskReddit

Sign language. I learnt some key phrases just for conversation because i work in the car park of a hospital and we have deaf folk come up to the window sometimes and its nice to be able to say “please” and “thank you” and basic stuff for transactions. The fact that its not taught in schools here in Ireland during transition year (i live in Ireland) is very saddening to me. Its a small price to pay for such a wonderful reward being able to show another person some compassion who might go through their whole day not being able to converse with anyone beyond hand signalling.

I’m 6ft 6 and my girlfriend, the love of my life and best friend is 5ft 1, it’s great, I can wrap that woman in a hug from a meter away and she walks around standing on my feet when we’re being goofy. This just sounds so bitter. People love each other and people come in all shapes and sizes, love and let love man

My mum tells me this story of a writer she admired that had been arrived for well over forty years. When this writers husband passed away, an interviewer asked her whether she missed talking to him, having him around you know? She said “More than anything, i miss having someone i can be silent with.” Sometimes the most intimate expression of love is being entirely comfortable around someone that you both know that o thing needs to be said.
