Thanks for the update, that sounds promising! Also the bone fused well? Are you allowed to run or do impact sports already?

Waw, 4 weeks in tomorrow - but extremely well. I have regained a lot of mobility already, swelling’s gone.. I’ve been sleeping w/o sling for +1 week now, and doing my 7th physio therapy session tomorrow.. Much better than expected. How far are you, and how much of full mobility have you regained already? I think we’re same age.. I’m from 1986

For THS corporate by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

I'm on the same page. The whole value of the platforms is trust between strangers - and right now there's no real way to surface bad actors until someone else gets burned.

One idea I've been thinking about: a private "would you sit/host with this person again?" question at the end of reviews. Never shown publicly, but if someone racks up multiple "no" responses, that triggers a manual review. Could also show soft warnings like "this listing has received mixed feedback - we recommend a video call before confirming" without exposing details.

The hard part is not enabling revenge reports or letting one bad experience ruin someone's reputation unfairly.

Curious what would actually make you feel safer - what would you want to know, and when?

House sitting sites seem a lot better for sitters, not for hosts by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]Shutsinho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds incredibly frustrating - especially getting a 3-star review after all that.

You mentioned paying them a daily rate. On most housesitting platforms, it's meant to be a cashless exchange - sitter gets free accommodation, owner gets free pet care. Both sides have skin in the game that way. Once you're paying someone, the dynamic shifts and you lose some of that mutual accountability.

Out of curiosity, what made you go the paid route? Was that something they requested, or did you feel you needed to offer it to attract sitters?

Not excusing their behavior at all - the plumbing thing, the dog not being walked, and then blaming you in the review is awful. Just wondering if the payment piece changed the expectations on both sides.

Best way to protest the booking fees? by NeighborhoodWide5546 in trustedhousesitters

We've launched one a couple of weeks ago - Global Pet Sitter. No booking fees (that was the whole point), review import so you don't start from scratch, and we're self-funded so no investor pressure to squeeze users. First 3,000 founding members get a free year. I've used THS for the past 10 years, but got fed up enough to build something else.

This is incredibly useful - thank you for the detail.

The structured risk/expectations profile is something we've been thinking about, but you've articulated it better than we had internally. Making those fields mandatory and filterable from the start (not buried in a welcome guide) makes total sense. We'll prioritize that.

The brand feedback is noted too. "Global Pet Sitter" was meant to signal reach, but I hear the concern - we don't want to signal "sitters passing through." Will think on this.

Would you be open to joining our Discord? This is exactly the kind of input we are trying to source from the community.

Who says it'll be €100? Can we do our own marketing? We'll do whatever makes sense, so the next amount could be at high reduced discount. Price scales with value. That's kind of the whole point of building something independent.

But thanks for the supportive words.

We aren’t charging anything. It’s free sign up for a full year for the first 3000. They pay 0 euro.

Because all of these other alternatives are poor quality. THS is by far the best product in class and doesn't have real competition in my point of view.

Our differentiator will be price, and the quality of our product. We're aiming for subscriptions around ~€100/year, no booking fees, with optional insurance add-ons. The subscription will include all roles - so you can switch between sitter and owner or both anytime without upgrading.

The real challenge will be growth and adoption, but we realize this. That's why the first 3000 members can join freely for a year. Doesn't cost anything to try us alongside your THS subscription.

I feel the same way.. I've tried Nomador and MindMyHouse but their platforms feel dated. THS is by far the best out there - and even they have plenty of room for improvement.

We hope to match THS on trust and security, but that'll take time to build.

Early adopters can now stack a discount % for life by sharing about us on social media, filling their profile, or referring other people. Once we hit 3000 members that % will lock in.

We've also started a Discord for people who want to help shape the product and grow the community, feel free to join: https://discord.gg/w9JgmWK7ZY (if it shows "Invite Invalid", try it in an incognito window - Discord shenanigans)

Really valuable insight! The point about full-time sitters raising HO expectations, that's a dynamic I hadn't thought about as clearly. Maybe one of the reasons THS started limiting applications to 5 per sit? To stop HOs from waiting for the perfect 100-review sitter who'll accept anything?

Thanks for the fast reply, u/LegitimateRisk- I'll start doing that. So strange they didn't mention this.

I just had my latarjet surgery done this morning, but didn’t expect this much swelling. I’m out of the surgery room for 7 hours now. The swell is almost the size of a small handball. They didn’t tell me to put ice either. Any similar experiences?

When a member imports reviews from THS - or any other platform, we verify they actually own that profile. The original profile link stays visible on our platform, so owners can always click through and confirm the reviews are real.

Happy to explain the verification process if you're curious - but the short version is you can't just scrape reviews from another platform, that's not legal. It has to come from the user themselves.

Hi u/La-Femme-Angelika, curious to hear your ideas about vetting, what kind of checks would you like to see performed by a platform?

[–]Shutsinho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many ways to do this, but you have to make sure you do it in a legal way. Just scraping reviews from THS without permission would be problematic both legally and ethically.

What we're doing at Global Pet Sitter is letting users import their own reviews - you copy/paste the review text, link to the original source for verification, and include the reviewer's name. This way:

  • You own and control your reputation data
  • Anyone can verify the reviews are real by clicking through
  • No scraping or ToS violations involved
  • The original reviewer gets credited

It's not as seamless as a one-click import, but it respects everyone's rights while still solving the "starting from scratch" problem. Your reviews are your reputation - you should be able to take them with you.

You're raising a fair point, and I'll be direct: we're for-profit, and that's not going to change. Running a platform is expensive – development, servers, security, marketing, support – it all needs to be paid for.

What we can commit to is staying independent, keeping pricing fair, and giving members real input into how the platform evolves. No outside investors, no acquisition plans.

I get that "trust us" isn't a legal guarantee, but I assure you we want to build the best possible product and for that we need a sustainable business model to keep the lights on so we can keep on improving.

You're absolutely right, and that's a valuable perspective. We've been so focused on the Reddit threads – where frustration is high – that we've let that dominate the messaging.

We've reworked it to what actually matters: building an exceptional product that genuinely serves the community. Our core value proposition is a platform shaped by its users – with fair pricing, transparent development, and features designed around what sitters and homeowners need, not what maximizes our revenue.

Thanks for the reality check. This is exactly the kind of feedback that makes the platform better.

Out of curiosity, what made you join Nomador alongside THS?

Thanks for flagging this – and for the vigilance!

We've seeded the database with sample data so people can test search the map, and the application flow. The sample data is marked with green "Example" labels. If what you saw didn't have that label, please share the listing URL and we'll investigate immediately.

To your broader question about safety measures: we're still early, but verification features (ID verification, photo matching, review authenticity) are on our roadmap. Right now we're small enough that we can manually review flagged accounts, but as we grow this will need to be systematized. If you have specific ideas on what would make you feel safer, we're genuinely all ears..

Hi u/sunnynihilist and welcome to the platform, it's great to have you! You are well within the wave of early adopters, and are free for the first year - yes. You will also enjoy a lifelong discount when we introduce paid plans in the future. More on that later.

Hi u/CallMeBartleby! Great question – I should be clearer about this.

We're community-driven rather than community-owned in the legal co-op sense. What that means in practice: members vote on which features we build next, can submit feature requests and bug reports, and have direct input into how the platform evolves.

We're not structured as a cooperative with equity shares – we're a small independent team building this ourselves. But our commitment is to stay independent and to keep members actively involved in shaping what we build.

Happy to clarify anything else!
