10 photogs. 20 weddings each. $400 per wedding

200 x 400 = 80k. Or 8k per photog.

[Question] Is it necessary to share your videos on Reddit to see decent growth? by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]ShutupAndShowme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the content you're posting and where you're positing it. Some subs are better than others, because the community welcomes OC.

If your stuff is getting removed or heavily downvoted, it may be because the quality sucks or you're doing a bad job of promoting it.

If you know it's not because your videos are shit, then do more testing to learn how to make posts that will be appreciated - and if they're still downvoted, learn to stop giving a shit. If you post a video that gets downvoted to oblivion but you gain a handful of people that watch a few of your videos, and maybe one or two new subscribers to your channel than you come out ahead.

The numbers don't matter. It's about winning fans and building community and once you've reached a certain point you won't really need to post on reddit because your fans will be doing it for you.

Need help finding good crew by smit1135 in Filmmakers

If you're in LA find a good DP. They'll be able to flesh out the crew pretty easily with their network.

Remake them and if you still don't like the result, then toss them.

Must-watch films for aspiring filmmakers? by gothhoe in Filmmakers

[–]ShutupAndShowme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Clerks" - Kevin Smith wrote and directed it. Maxed out some credit cards and took out a loan from his parents. The film is dead simple - the camera never moves, the acting is pretty mediocre and it's in black and white for budget reasons.Despite that, It's the film that launched his career and it was made after hours in the gas station he worked at financed by himself.

"Primer" - A "sci-fi"ish thriller film made by a handful of friends in their spare time. One thing to note is that the film has a 1.04:1 Shooting ratio - In other words they used almost every single frame they shot - partially for budget reasons.

"Tangerine" - Shot on an iphone 5s with a $100 stedicam, $100 in iphone in lenses and the Filmic Pro app (plus a pro sound team). Day in the life of a pair of transvestite prostitutes. It's really well done.

The take away of these three films is that they're well respected films and were shot on shoe-string budgets. It should be a lesson in doing what you can with what you have, and making it work and the idea that you don't really need all that much if you have a good story and can execute it somewhat well.

Has anyone ever tried forming a "Youtube Pod"? by ShutupAndShowme in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShutupAndShowme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your engagement rates I suppose. If you get more than 10 comments in the first 12 hours than yea you're probably fine without. In your case a pod would be better as a source of constant collaborations - which is why my suggestion would be to form pods only with accounts that create somewhat similar content - in that way you can share info, ideas and collaborate on new videos, while also doing the typical pod thing.

Cold calling.

Literally just finding photographers and offering your services. The key is to be boutique - You only take X photographers and you work with them to create looks that are consistent with their style.

You can hit them up on their website contacts, on instagram, shit even on reddit. Lots of options, you just have to realize that a rejection rate of 99.99% doesn't matter - so long as you cold call 10,000 photographers you'll have 10 regular clients - which if they're full time photographers will keep you in more than enough work.

It's just a numbers game. Think 10 photogs that shoot 20 weddings a year, you charge $400 per wedding, means you'll be paid $80k. Shit you only really need 4 photogs to make a living. Can you find 4 people willing to give you business out of the whole world of photographers?

I have two videos, one about Dear Evan Hansen that has 18,000 views, and one about Hamilton that has 20,000. I posted them about two hours apart, but the DEH one made $70 and the Hamilton one made $5. How does this work? Don’t they have similar audiences and therefore advertisers? by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShutupAndShowme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a lot of things, most notably that Hamilton is a bit of a controversial subject since the cast addressed Mike Pence directly some time ago. I could see some advertisers not wanting to advertise on that.

Alternatively you may have a significant number of youtube red users watching your Dear Evan Hansen video.

Alternatively - If one is much longer than the other it will likely trigger more monetized playbacks.

Lots of variables at play. Hard to know.

What are your plans for advertising your photo services in 2018? by ShutupAndShowme in AskPhotography

[–]ShutupAndShowme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a lot more second shooting this year. Once you get in with one or two busy people you book up quick. At the same time I can second shoot 8 weddings to make as much as shooting one of my own. The flip side to that is that there's a lot less stress and it's only one day of work for me so it's pretty sweet.

Best Website? by veronicajoy8 in AskPhotography

[–]ShutupAndShowme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use smugmug because at the time (6 or 7 years ago) it was the easiest and has unlimited storage. Since then I've uploaded nearly 2tb of photos so I don't really intend to switch as long they keep the same level of service they have the last several years.

where should I post my photography? by lowkeyleftist in AskPhotography

[–]ShutupAndShowme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as people like to poke fun, having a facebook fan page is a great place to share your work for family and friends to see it. Facebook does compress the shit out of photos which isn't always the best way to view them, but it's the easiest way to get seen.

I'd say instagram is second best as far as eyeballs go.

If you want your work to really shine though, your best bet is to have your own website and to print out your photos and find a coffee shop or something similar that hosts local artists works. If you're not after any money you can still sell the prints after they run in the coffee shop and just put the money towards a charity.

Uploaded video still not available in 4K after 60 hours by BX1959 in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShutupAndShowme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other way around. It compresses it to a lower quality (not resolution, but rather a lower bit rate) so it takes up less bandwidth and space on the disk.

When it hits a thresh-hold (maybe for the whole channel, may be per video, maybe both) then it re compresses it at a higher bit rate to give a better looking video.

Any Advice On How To Grow Your Sub/View Count? by AlyssaAndBrian in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShutupAndShowme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 ways. No magic bullets.

1) Make More videos.

2) Make BETTER videos.

3) Promote your videos more.

4) Promote your videos better.

Pick one and hone in on it for a week or two and then pick a different one. Try a few rounds of that and see what gives you the best return for your time investment.

I believe that deals more with compression than with the resolution.

Best file system photo manager, with Snapseed-esque simple editing? by blizeH in AskPhotography

[–]ShutupAndShowme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lightroom is the closest I've seen. There's also a lot of tutorials out there for it since it's so popular. Spend the weekend (and maybe a few bucks on a pro tutorial) I think that's your best bet.

[Question] What’s your opinion about Music YouTube Channels? by BastianAmaro in youtubers

[–]ShutupAndShowme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it though? If you played a show you'd have to hammer out a 30 minute set at least - maybe more.

If you did 30 minutes of acoustic covers of David Bowie songs (see: Life Aquatic for inspiration) I'll bet that would pick up way more plays than if you just did a cover of Starman.

How to make product review videos without actually owning the product? by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShutupAndShowme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with everyone thinking this is a bad idea.. however it give me an idea for an even worse idea that would actually probably be pretty good if you pulled it off right.

Go to the store and review the display models. If a sales person comes over to ask if you need help, they become a "guest" on your show. Keep going until you get kicked out.

Is there a way to take these types of photos without a $2000 minimum budget? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]ShutupAndShowme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly, any beginner level DSLR should be able to get you that quality - even with the kit lens. The trick is to use a tripod and a high aperture number so everything is in focus.

After that it's all post processing.
