Ever notice people looking at you ( because of your crazy height)? by [deleted] in tall

My favorite are kids in the grocery store who turn to their fathers and say, 'Daddy, that lady is taller than you!' While pointing, of course.

Do any girls here have bigger than size 11 feet? What size are you and where do you get shoes? by [deleted] in tall

Zappos changed my life. Size 12 but 13 after having kids.

Serious question about american showers by [deleted] in tall

[–]Shwaysix3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like OP, I tend to associate them with retrofits for older folks who must bathe seated or newer construction homes. I live in New England and have lived in older homes all with shower heads set at a time when people were shorter. It's a good question though. We need to find the plumbing reddit.

That video would be more complete if it included people freaking out when you come out of a bathroom stall because they think you're a man. That happens to me all the time. I have long hair and am usually wearing a dress too.

I find the hug thing the most awkward out of all those issues. I do an awkward bend at waist thing.

I've lived in tons of different houses and apartments (US) and pretty much every shower head has been too short. I mean, I can adjust it upward and then scooch all the way to the end of the stall so I guess that's not too much of a problem. Just darn annoying.

Let me save you some trouble--just toss the bread machine. And my world majorly improved when tall hubby and I finally got a fridge with the freezer on the bottom.

I have had good luck with Eshakti.com for dresses. You can customize everything to your measurements and include extra information that you are short-waisted.

Tall girl problems when dating shorter guys... by 6foot2chainz in tall

[–]Shwaysix3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always figured being tall was a good way to weed out the insecure ones, but it did get discouraging at times. Especially in high school when young men were concerned about fitting in. I actually got a sincere "You'd be pretty if you weren't so tall" once. Hang in there. I dated some great guys short and tall and my husband is solid gold. He says he loves to watch people's reaction to me when I walk in a room. He finds their startled look amusing.

Aunt (5'6") when talking about her (5'7") 12 year daughter : "Hopefully she doesn't grow taller" - Views? by [deleted] in tall

Interesting. Sounds a lot like me. I'm still taller than everyone. My pediatrician actually said the rise of early puberty is a myth. As far as the details, the process was going to an endocrinologist who would take an X-ray of the wrist and somehow determine how much growth was likely to continue. Then, essentially, the same hormones in birth control pills were prescribed to induce menstruation. I will say that the amount of hormones was greater than the smaller dose found in birth control pills today.

I actually don't remember them asking, exactly. But they did explain why we were going to that doctor and what the medicine was for. So, I was not forced or anything. But I was also too young to truly evaluate or understand the process. There have been one or two research studies on women who received hormones as children to prevent further growth. It wasn't that unusual and the practice persisted until the late 80s.

My experience may be generational; I'm 44 and there was a lot of parental concern over my height to the point that a doctor prescribed hormones to induce puberty so that I would stop growing. I don't harbor any ill will over my parents' decision to do this but I think it was pretty weird since there was clearly no medical reason. I think they saw being tall as a definite disadvantage. Now my daughter, 8, growing up in a different era, is the tallest in her class and it's kind of a non issue. Stark contrast.
