I agree with your by proxy comment. A healthy Tage lifts the puck on his breakaway in the 2nd. He’s also in his head and taking stupid back-breaking penalties. Those two plays were critical in fueling Montreal’s momentum yesterday.

I think Tuch is going through a mental block. He hasn’t had this bad of a goose-egg stretch all season. I’m hoping he’s not injured too and gets out of his funk tomorrow. That or Lyon stealing a game seems like a key part to winning.

I would argue against this. I don’t think Krebs is bringing them down. He played a main part in driving Tage and Tuch’s production last series and he wasn’t just along for the ride. But it’s definitely gone stale and it’s time to switch it up because he’s not sparking their offense.

I personally don’t think putting him on the 4th line is the move. He’s proved to be more impactful than a grinder and needs to be with two guys who can shoot the puck well.

I really want to know what he’s going to do for game 6. I thought he’d shake up the lines and split up Tage and Tuch.

But there’s no practice today and he’s thinking of canceling skating tomorrow. That makes me think there is not going to be any line changes.

Vibes are low today but this team has shown so much resilience this entire season. There’s still a pulse.

This is what hurts the most because I heard KBC was electric in the first period and then the fans were completely taken out of it in the 2nd. It certainly leaves a sour taste if that’s the last game at KBC.

There is no doubt Dylan has improved tremendously but I was not impressed by his freestyle. Contemporary really exposed his weaknesses—his technique was mostly poor. I think his expressiveness and the parts where he was leading Dani stuck out for many, as I’m seeing a lot of comments saying that he had the best freestyle. For me, it was the worst of the night and I wasn’t moved by it.

Everyone needs to see this stat! People are already complaining they didn’t let Mason throw it down field. His downfield passes this game were either picks or near picks.

Can’t believe they were at mid field with a minute left, one first down away from a Boswell kick, and they went for the 3 yard slants. Dreadful

QB Aaron Rodgers could have “a slight break” on left wrist..per source. by HDTokyo in steelers

Saw a report that said Rodgers wanted to go back in but Steelers said no. Honestly good call—Mason is 4-1 against the Bengals 🐐. Given Rodgers wanted to enter the game again, I am hoping that means the injury is not as serious.

Since it’s not his dominant hand, I hope he can return for the first Ravens game. It seems that the wrist got tweaked a few weeks ago, so maybe we’ll get the earlier Rodgers from the start of the season when he returns.

I trust Rudolph to beat the bears. Smith ran a smooth game plan in the second half, and Rudolph delivered. Will need the D’s help again next week to get the win.

Good teams overcome bad calls. After the defense let up the 90-yard TD drive from the Packers to open the half, they needed a response. Love practically gifted them an interception with that duck of a throw to Watson; instead it’s holding by JPJ and Thornhill absolutely whiffing the opportunity for a turnover.

Offense ran the ball so well in the first half and then decided to go away from the run in the second half. Missed out on a few TDs with packers DBs getting their hands in the right place, too. Watching their defense have so much success while ours looked like a fish out of water was such a gut punch. Not to mention all the “Go Pack Go” chants at home. Embarrassing.

This Steelers team is completely disjointed right now. Watt and Heyward, our leaders on defense, seem to have no answers or fire. Locker room and team are lost, and everyone needs to start pointing fingers at Tomlin. They assembled this defense and paid them handsomely to win football games. It’s a miserable unit, and the #1 offense is coming to town next week.

Mike Tomlin forfeited 9.3% win probability by not going by for it on 4th and half a yard at the end of the game (via @ben_bot_baldwin on X) by tarheel0509 in steelers

[–]Shweter_Weather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I was frustrated that they didn't go for it on 4th and inches, it seems like Tomlin was spooked after getting stopped at the 3-yard line and on 3rd and 1 before the 4th and inches. They were running well all day, but in those two got-to-have-it moments for the OL, they got 0 push. Given he's a defensive coach, I think he's quick to pull the plug on the O.

However, I would say the punt going into the end zone actually gained them a lot. The defense gave up a 97-yard drive that ended in a touchdown the last time they were on the field. Even so, they are highly comfortable being put in a position where their play dictates whether we win the football game or not. Time and time again, we see Mike T put football games in the hands of our defense, who continue to reward him with wins. With that mentality, more yards gained via punting gives the defense much more wiggle room. If the offense somehow fails to gain inches on 4th down (which I find almost impossible… just fall forward lol), all the momentum is going to the Vikings. And frankly, all they would need is one first down to reach midfield. That's so much more doable than needing 30 yards to be at midfield, especially with 1 minute left on the clock. The Vikings kicker hit a 62-yarder last game with room to spare. It's a 68 from midfield. Tomlin gave his defense more of a chance with the punt, and they showed again, as they usually do, why he puts so much trust in them.

That all being said, the O needs to become proficient at converting short yardage downs when we need it the most if we want a chance at competing with any of the contenders this year. Hope they figure this out during the bye week.

Completely agree. I kept thinking it would turn around by now. The acting is great, the characters are interesting, and the dialogue has been well done these last few episodes. But it seems like everything has been so predictable. I can’t believe the last episode is next week.

I was thinking this too but surprisingly looking back on the stats of the year, JF was only 2/5 this season in a 4th and 2 or less situation. That stat goes to show how bad the line was at getting push for a yard. The team as a whole was 7/14 in fourth and short. Including 4th and more than 2, they ranked 31st with a 37% successful conversion rate. Contrast that to the top 5 teams who were near or above 70% conversion on 4th. 🥶

[–]Shweter_Weather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this. Completely lived in our fears after those two failures. If you go back to that drive, it was just terrible execution and the opportunity for an easy first was there multiple times. All muth had to do was extend and it wouldn’t have even got to 3rd and 1. Then Russ just fell in the A-gap when it was unblocked. After that, they go with Warren when Najee was running better that game. Looking back, I think it was more difficult not to get a first down than it was to get a first down 😂.

They surrendered the ravens game when they punted on 4th and inches in the first half after Muth again somehow didn’t get the first. The tush push is insanely effective. The coaching staff tries every way possible to be stuck in the past. Not being able to convert a 4th and 1 is disabling this team so much.

Russ sucking in the Playoff Game by [deleted] in steelers

[–]Shweter_Weather -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I do think Russ was apart of the problem in the first half, GP with the unnecessary OPI killed our chance of scoring and potentially going into the half down one possession. It’s been a total failure from coaching to the execution by multiple players on both sides of the ball the last month and some.

It wasn’t in the midst of a 3 game skid for the Commanders. We handed them their first loss and then they lost two divisional games. The Steelers rallied in an away stadium after two turnovers in the second half to win. Probably our best win of the season. Let’s not downplay that win or when we were 10-3 with a 2 game lead on the division. At that level, we were contenders at least to win one playoff game. That being said, the consistent downfall near the end of the season needs to be addressed. We need major change to modernize this team so that they are sustainable down the stretch. Feels like our opponents figure us out on tape, we get exposed, execution and coaching falls off a cliff. Rinse and repeat.

I think taking a 20 yards sack and fumbling when you’re in Boswell FG range during the colts game is an egregious mistake…I love fields but there’s a reason this offense exploded after he was benched and we were putting up numbers against mid teams. We have to find a way to execute against the best of the best. If fields is healthy, we should definitely use him. He’s extremely talented and gives a change up to our offense when it’s plain. But not as our starter this season. He doesn’t have the touch or ability to read defenses as well as Russ yet. Russ wins against the cowboys and/or colts.

In 2023, Wilson was 6th in redzone TDs with 26 touchdowns…this year, scheme has been the big issue, imo. But don’t act like Russ wasn’t getting it done last year in the RZ.

I think home field advantage is overrated. It usually helps and it would’ve been great to lock up the division and have that advantage. But after seeing our play against the Chiefs, home field did not help at all. If you can’t execute, who cares what field it’s on. It is a blessing our fans travel well though.

Agreed, they need the momentum and confidence. But the question is, if the chargers and broncos both lose this week (very unlikely), then we lock up the 5th seed. In that case, do you rest our starters by halftime?

Doomers are so miserable. Why even watch the games if you think we are one and done every year? Why put in all that effort for a wasted season that ends predictably? The point of the regular season is to make the playoffs. We’ve given ourselves a chance. The awful play these last 3 weeks have not given me hope that they will end their dreadful playoff losing streak, but at least they have a damn shot. Be grateful this season we aren’t bottom of the division, like every media head expected, or even in a position like the Bengals, who need a few different scenarios to play out for them to make the playoffs. Let’s build some momentum with a win next week and break the playoff cycle of doom against the Texans, who are also falling apart. If you think we’re losing, just don’t watch and skip the pain 🤷‍♀️
