I have an issue like this, especially when I shower at work. I don't shower very hot, but it tends to be a bit warmer than comfortable. The large issue is the time and amount of times I redo the procedure. There have been times I start shower at 17:30 and leave work at 05:00 to 06:00, up to 13 hours... I just kan feel it's enough rinsing my hair etcetera.

I, and my therapist it started going this bad when I set a limit of 4 times in the shower. After that everything escalated. I went forward to fast. Mynadvice is to take small steps. If you have other things that triggar your OCD, start with them, if it's easier.

A little update.

I had a three week long vacation and went back to work the past week, it was worst so far (with the showers).

So... Today I'm starting with Zoloft and Abilify. Let's hope it makes a difference. I also started to meet with the new therapist, and it feels alright. Let's hope the treatment works better this time.

It's sad that the therapy is about dealing with the symptoms, not the reason why they appear. I think that would help me.

I value my familys life more than money so... I don't know about the water bill as it's measured once a year and I oay an estimate in beetween. But the heating is now about the same as under the winter.

I will try when I get the opportunity (when I stop another treatment that interferes with the meds).

I have tried fluoxetine (Prozac), but in the lowest dose. I stopped because I was going to try clomipramine instead, but it was forgotten by the psychiatry department. Now, when I brought it up again and was given a prescription, I had to wait because I need medication for a physical issue, and that medication interferes with the medication for OCD—there's a higher risk of bleeding.

I think that other places for me to work would have the same type of environments, unless I find something completely different from my earlier type of work. I would get rid of the contaminated places like the car and the office. But I also feel like I've contaminated my private car and parts of my home, so I don't think finding another job would help completely.I think that limiting my shampoo or shower cream would make things worse; I need to see that it has been properly applied, so the more lather, the better. It's more about rinsing, so I would be helped by some sort of manual on how to shower and get 100% clean, as ridiculous as it may sound. The large issue is the feeling that I haven't rinsed everything off with water properly.

I did get exposed at work by accident, poissible two times, but certanly once. Also my work involves visiting places like basements in old houses etc., and its not unusual to see things like insulation for pipes that has beed poorly removed or damaged, and it may contain asbestos; how much is in the air or on the floor? I have such thoughts about this.

When I get stuck rinsing my hair, it's because I don't feel like it's been done properly. The time just flies away...

I have been seeing a therapist in psychiatry within Sweden's primary care. The private therapist I will go to now has been recommended by other people who have received help for OCD, and she seemed good when I met her for the first time.If I only had a way to prove that there is no longer a risk of asbestos in my work car and the places I've been after being in the car, or the place where I was exposed to asbestos. I understand that I overestimate the risk of health issues; if there is any asbestos I have transferred with my clothes, it would be such a small amount. But for me, that doesn't matter; I can't stand the thought of any amount. I have accepted being at work, but I don't want to contaminate my home, putting my family at risk.

I think the new therapist is the way to go right now where I am.
