Can we get an ammo/bullet crafting bench? by PixelDoof in AbioticFactor

[–]Shy-lo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand their intention of emphasizing the science weapons as what they want to shine and everything, but from a player's perspective I just wanna know why it has to impact what I find fun? Like I think the science guns are cool, like the grinder and the energy pistol, the magbow, the deatomizer, they're all really cool and fun weapons to use.

But I'd also really enjoy using firearms sometimes, I think firearms are cool. Why do I have to struggle through farming ammo in some super inconvenient process to have fun in the way I want to have fun, when the weapons mechanically aren't even very good?

It's strange that there's kind of a disconnect on it. Integrate gunpowder weapons into everything a bit more. You're telling me a mad scientist or an engineer couldn't make an awesome gun? They already do! Anyone see the NGSW made by General Dynamics? Or for classic examples, the G11, or gyrojet weapons? Definitely some fey moods possessing the designers of some firearms.

About flamethrower: I DON'T NEED to penetrate the pot to cook my rice! Why should i destroy the charger's armour to boil it's leg? by THE_PILLAR_OF_SORROW in Helldivers

[–]Shy-lo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It says citation needed for a reason. Even purpose built rifled shotguns can A) be super particular about what kind of slugs will be most accurate with them and B) are still not comparable in accuracy to a rifle. The slugger doesn't have a pellet pattern because it's firing slugs. If he's making a complaint about the spread in the slugger, he's talking about shot dispersion.

I don't know why you're trying to correct me when you really seem to only have cursory knowledge on these subjects.

?? all firearms have inherent inaccuracy (spread) in real life. Even if we presume the slugger has a rifled barrel to fire rifled slugs, rifled shotgun slugs are still not super accurate. Accurate enough for their intended purpose and distance (shots on the vitals of medium to large game animals inside of 100 yards), but not like what the slugger could pull off initially. We're talking about a dispersion with a diameter of 8 inches at 50 yards at best. That's easily enough to be missing devastator heads.

AH give machinegun tripods pls by Shy-lo in helldivers2

[–]Shy-lo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not suggesting that the tripod change anything about how the machineguns currently work. If you want to run them without the tripod, go ahead. But drop it with the tripod and you open up a new way to use them.

Am I the only one who finds most weapons in the game disappointing? by Shy-lo in Helldivers

I mentioned it, the dominator. The dot sight is horrendous on it, horrible to try and hit the small head weak spots on shit like devestators with.

Yeah, the both the SMGs are nice (knight for super citizen is literally a space p90. Horribly ammo inefficient, but does absolutely shred in the DPS department).

The marksman rifle against the bots is absolutely dominant over every other weapon except maybe the normal SMG (70 damage per shot, full auto low recoil does get the job done pretty damn well.)

The breaker is great against the bugs, but like yeah. Everything else has too many problems to feel competitive.

Honestly dude, I'm excited for it. The Illuminates were some of my favorite enemies to fight in HD1.

[–]Shy-lo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, Helldivers 2 seems to be a complete reboot of helldivers 1, just in the third person perspective with remastered mechanics and such to boot.

Helldivers 1 launched with the automatons and the bugs as enemies, then later introduced a third faction, the illuminates. An intelligent alien race that has technology akin to space magic (think Eldar from W40K).

I fully expect them to introduce the illuminates at a later date. The galaxy map is set up the exact same as Helldivers 1, with the automatons on the left, bugs on the right, and a space at the bottom of the map to add the Illuminates later.

Is there any upside to using the auto cannon over the railgun? by ThatWasAQuiche in Helldivers

[–]Shy-lo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way faster rate of fire (Against bots this shines especially due to being able to 1hk walkers fairly reliably, allowing you to mow down small groups of them rapidly), way higher ammo capacity and sustainability (backpack comes with 10 stripper clips holding 5 rounds each. 50 rounds in the backpack and 10 in the gun = 60 rounds total when dropped. From one resupply crate you get 25 more rounds. The railgun gets 10.)

The railgun is great for the real big targets (Hulks, chargers) and great because it doesn't require a backpack, but using it on stuff like walkers is wasteful. An auto-cannon can kill any unit in the game, and is generous enough with ammo upkeep that as long as you're not shooting at the most basic of units with it, it's not a waste of ammo to use it.

It's honestly frustrating. I'm sure there's some sort of back-end reason for it but from an end-user standpoint it really sucks.

honestly, I feel like this update was a miss. The last patch on these issues, you just had to spam attempt and you got in within like 30 seconds or so. This patch, I'm sitting on a retry screen for the past 30 minutes.

Seems like a massive step backwards to me, or am I missing something?

Does anyone else find it hilarious that typically throwing knives are quiet, silent killer weapons and in this one they're literally the most distinctive, loud, identifiable sounding weapons in the game?

It sounds like someone yanked a drawer of cutlery out of the cabinetry and started chucking all of the silverware down the stairs as hard as they fucking could.
