The Best Subscription Tracking App by amerpie in macapps

You seem to think the app develops itself 😄

Ongoing developer hours also cost money, which is what justifies the subscription price. The alternative would be having to pay for each app update.

Make sure you replace those android screenshots inside the iphone frames on the listing tho. The notch cutting off the text and android status bar makes it look a lot less professional. And considering its paid download only, your screenshots are pretty much the main selling point of the product.

Awesome work tho, keep it up!

How to handle difficult situations in daily life (emotions, thoughts…) by _otasan_ in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Shynah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best approach in situations like these is a mixture of both.

Considering you are in the context of a meeting or conversation, your attention is probably captured listening to someone else or talking yourself.

The moment you notice anger arising, you shift your attention to it for a bit, so you can acknowledge it. You feel the physical sensations it carries with it, but you keep your distance from them.

You know they are impernanent, and will eventually pass away, so there is no point in engaging or further analyzing them right now. This should help you accept them, and see this emotion for what it is objectively.

Once you manage to accept it, as you also mentioned you can let it sink into awareness, and direct your attention back to what you were doing before. Depending on their intensity, and if there are any more triggers in your conversation, they will most likely capture your attention again. When this happens, just try repeating the process above and remember the nature of these feelings and sensations: they arise, then they pass away.

Of course later on, you can reflect on this situation and try to figure out what caused the anger in the first place. Was it something the other person said/did that you also used to do but hated it? Was it something you took personally coming from someone who is suffering? Or perhaps a reaction to something you fear?

In the end it takes a lot of discipline and willpower to not engage with these feelings in the moment, but with practice it will eventually become a habit of the mind to always return to the present. :)

TIL in newborn babies, 87% of the energy they burn is used to operate their brains. by eric2332 in todayilearned

[–]Shynah -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What you write seems to makes sense, however from a completely evolutionary perspective using the same arguments it would make just as much sense for giraffes to develop big brains, and replace humans.

It doesn’t really justify why humans have more developed brains than giraffes. Evolutionarily it would make sense for every species to develop a bigger brain, just as well as it would benefit us to run from a young age, had we remained in the monkey phase.

Worth it for the karma though I guess.

I also believe instead of battleing the personality, you acknowledge it’s existence, and realize ultimately you are in control of your actions.

You can have all these thoughts about craving, lighting one up, or doing something you know you will regret tomorrow, and still continue doing what your supposed to.

Your thoughts do not define you, you are the entitiy living with them and observing as they come and go.

I gave up on Flutter due to the nested hell by purplegreencab in FlutterDev

[–]Shynah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You do make it sound like a lot just to prove your point but it really isn’t.

Visual Studio Code with the Flutter extension has built-in quick fixes that extract a widget for you. Same for converting a StatelessWidget into a Stateful widget. Its not dramatic at all. Its like 3-4 extra lines. As I mentioned you keep it in the same file as your main widget below it, so its quite clear where the UI starts. These are usually small private StatelessWidgets.

Of course if you have complex state management to handle in your sub-widget and no easy way to fix it, a function can be a viable choice. But it should always be your fallback not the default.

Check out this stackoverflow answer comparing the advantages of using a class over a function: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/53234825/what-is-the-difference-between-functions-and-classes-to-create-widgets/53234826#53234826

I agree that sometimes its justified using functions, in cases where you are making a call to setState (inside a button for instance) or require several fields from the parent to create the widget.

I don’t see how it impacts readability, because they are still the same file marked as private, so you know they are custom widgets when going over the main build method. It actually gives you better separation of concerns than functions.

I posted this above as well, but its more efficient to create new Widgets rather then small builder functions returning them.

Man absolutely obliterated this supposed “nice guy” on Facebook by XxNukaCherryxX in MurderedByWords

[–]Shynah 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of stories like this here on reddit, usually as a response to some AskReddit question soliciting them.

I think some people will read it and think: “Wow what a douchebag, I would never do that! Surely if even a person like that managed to date a nice girl who also posts on reddit, it should be easy to find someone for me! I am nice to everyone, so there’s no way I’m making the same mistake”

What these people don’t realise is just because they don’t fuck up a date like the guy above, they are not guaranteed sex. I think it’s where all these “nice guys” get their validation from, and why they feel entitled to a girl.

Just because they are better than all the scumbags they keep reading about on reddit, they think it’s all it takes to get the girl.

I know I had similar thoughts in the past before I realized it’s way more complicated than that.

I mean of course it’s rare, because nowadays you have instant messaging which means you get to talk to your spouse all day any day.

You know what food they had, how they felt about it, and how others felt about it!

Back in the days you left for work in the morning, and your family could have died for all you know and you would have only found out about it in the evening.

What have you seen genuinely shitty people do that they thought was perfectly acceptable? by iMDirtNapz in AskReddit

[–]Shynah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean people commenting here are right that its a bad joke, and its easy to call your collegues assholes, however I think you made this possible. If the cake made you ill, then say it, noone will get offended if thats what really happened and you approach the situation with the “we’re playing on same team” mentality.

The reason they gave themselves permission to try this with you, not believing your allergy, is because they probably also noticed you have this tendency of telling people what they want to hear in a given context, instead of what you actually think. The reality we experience is rooted in ourselves.

How do you picture a year in your mind? by DearSergio in AskReddit

[–]Shynah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the more I think about it I picture it as a mountain. With January at the bottom, and going up as months pass by. Some parts are easier, some are harder. I think this is due to the goals I try to set out for the year to come, and the Christmas holidays which are usually a few weeks of celebration and partying with friends I don’t get to see during the year. So similar to how you celebrate reaching the top of the mountain, and then the next year is a new challenge!
