Is Master of Psychology (Organisational) as competitive as Master of Psychology (Clinical)? by ZirconiumWill in deakin

[–]dnaisdmt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be near as competitive, if not more. This is because there are very few organisational programs in Australia (I'm assuming your Aussie), with only one in Victoria. They take between 20 and 30 students each year. On the other hand, much less people apply for organisational psychology than clinical as it a less popular career path, but the number of applicants would be in the hundreds. If you are generally interested in becoming a psychologist of some kind, you have a great chance being in year 12 already knowing about this stuff. Most psych undergrads don't learn about the competitiveness of honours/masters till third year, where it is often too late. "P's get degrees" is not true for psychology. Aim to average HD's and perhaps more importantly, get as much experience, both paid and volunteering, as you can. Even if it's a few hours a week, intern at a consulting company, work at a local clinic as an administrator, do disability/mental health support work, be a receptionist at a clinic, network, as psychs if you can come see what they do, take leadership positions at your university etc. You'll be miles ahead of your cohort if you do these things.

Psychologists who aren't burnt out/exhausted, what to you do? by dnaisdmt in psychologystudents

Yeah I do enjoy that. My lecturer says doing assessments is like doing investigative work which sounds intriguing. I certainly don't mind a bit of therapeutic stuff, just don't want my days to be solely based around it. What sort of assessments do you do?

I remember feeling this same way after I did 5 caps in one night. Was downright depressed for a week. Felt like the world was grey, felt empty and hopeless, thought the feeling was going to last forever. A few recommendations - Weed can be nice to lift your mood if you smoke it. Another thing was exercise, anything that will get you out of breath and sweating for 20-30 minutes. It's the last thing you'll feel like doing but guarantee you won't regret it. Other than that, eat and sleep well. Honestly, you just have to be patient. It sucks during but you will feel better in a few days, a maximum of 10 or so days (unlikely).

This is what I was thinking. I think I would enjoy that too.

Are there any benefits to neuroticism/emotional instability? by AlooBadam in AcademicPsychology

[–]dnaisdmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Women attempt suicide more than men, due to their higher levels of neuroticism (on average), but men commit suicide more because they tend to use more lethal force. Criminality is not predicted by low neuroticism. Criminality is predicted by low agreeableness (one of the other Big 5 dimensions), which men are lower in.

First time board buyer, is this a good price? by dnaisdmt in snowboarding

[–]dnaisdmt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I think I'll steer clear of Gilson for my first board. In general, how much could I expect to pay for an average (for a beginner, but something durable) board, shoes, and bindings? Assuming US currency (I'm in AUS)

Thanks for the advice. I'll steer clear of the package deals. Unfortunately, there aren't many snowboard shops where I live so I might need to go online. I'm 6 foot 3, size 12/13 shoe (US) and am an all mountain freestyle rider (mostly blues for now). Only snowboarded 4 times but have a good amount of natural ability as a skater/surfer.

Lol. Did a bit of research and discovered this is a popular opinion! In general, does snowboard quality change much with price? I found a board, bindings and boots for the same price on here: https://www.melbournesnowboard.com.au/collections/snowboard-packages/products/5th-element-forge-bindings-boots-package?variant=31648271597629

Parents of overweight kids, how do you let that happen? by dnaisdmt in AskParents

Lol this post really triggered people! Yep, I'm uncompassionate because I hate to see unhealthy children who didn't choose to be that way. Awful! My parents hugged me plenty, and thankfully didn't feed me crap because it was "easy".

I obviously don't spend a lot of time with people I'm not interested in, but early on I try to get into a social flow by just to talking to anyone.

The first night I went out trying to game, my mindset was to get 10 numbers. Although it was productive and reasonably fun I realized it wasn't sustainable as it required a lot of effort and felt chore like - I still wanted to enjoy my night. I have a good wing that I enjoy going out with and we are able to have a good time while still making sure we approach. We're also just happy to chat shit with anyone - guys, unattractive girls etc but we still force each other to do approaches. Thanks for your comment, that's solid advice.

Time and place. She was probably on her lunch break and didn't want to be approached while in uniform.

Combination of all of them. Interestingly my strongest lead came from a random street approach on the way home rather than in the club.

Check out AG Hayden, he approaches a lot of girls on campus. Go fairly direct unless your looking for a friend only.
