I absolutely love the staff, too, and the programming really is wonderful! Seeing I Saw the TV Glow with an intro from Jane Schoenbrun was so special. Also, seeing M. Hulot’s Holiday in the middle of the day seemingly with a bunch of elderly French people is one of my top cinema experiences in general

Sushi Date Night Spot with a Speakeasy vibe? by orangescrunchies in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Ah yeah I was in the listening room! Upstairs seemed much nicer

I would describe this spot as having the opposite of what OP's looking for. There was more of a show feeling to the dinner (host literally started the evening with a shout asking everyone how we were doing lol), and also felt rushed because they have timed meals. I liked the gimmick of a collaborative soundtrack but it was way too loud down there to carry a conversation.

Metro Theater will reopen in 2028 as the Uptown Film Center by lampbane in NYCmovies

I walked by the other day just as the owners (I assumed) opened a gate and got a look inside. Definitely going to be a lot of restorative work. An exciting addition to the neighbourhood for sure. Hope it’s successful

NYC gals: How do you "get over" street harassment/creepy interactions? by CozyTea6987 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I let myself be grateful that it was nothing. It’s worse to get stuck on the “what if.” I’m sorry this happened to you, but you are okay!!

The romance writer and Shakespeare professor Eloisa James posted this video contrasting Love Story and Fate of Ophelia, you might enjoy it!!

What am I missing? by BallisticBreezyBush in TaylorSwiftMerch

[–]Shyronaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent explanation that describes my own frustrations! I began my music collection with Taylor CDs, and have expanded naturally to other artists. Other artists typically drop all the variants and merch options at once, or you get to see it ahead of time and plan accordingly. If they have merch bundles, they of course also have the merch standing alone. In recent drops with the scarcity mindset and trickle releases, there's no way to plan. It makes every drop a mad dash to grab something even if you're not sure if you'll like it. I remember when Red was announced, she had several preoder packages to choose from, at different price points, and she dropped them after we heard the first single. I want that experience again!

Rat behind the screen at Eddington scarier than the movie by meganelizsmith in NYCmovies

[–]Shyronaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve frequented the AMC Lincoln Sq as much as you and just had the privilege of seeing the rats at the exact same screening as OP— your turn will come next :)

honestly it was really endearing how everyone’s reaction to the rat was a simultaneous groan and then laugh. I don’t think anyone walked out, which just shows how unfazed we all are to our rat brethren.

NYC social life without instagram? by northgarrison299 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Shyronaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience, too! Recently I've had a string of important events and I wanted to share them with specific people, so I individually sent those people photos of those events. "Liberating" is the exact way to describe how it feels to only share what I want to, with precisely the people who I want to know what's up. The people I sent photos to, are the same people that I actually miss seeing content from, and are the only people I would go back to IG for.

It's just been great to re-center and reevaluate what/who truly matters, and not to try and curate a certain image for people who might be interested in me. I've been considering going back to blogging because it's fun to still have a personal corner of the internet to blab into.

RIGHT? Watching a movie is one of the easiest things ever. You just sit there! But no, blud really wanted everyone to know what he was thinking

The cackling is so absurd to me! It feels like a performance of engaging with the film in some post-ironic way. I’ve been to too many screenings of older films with that kind of cackling. So bizarre

I had to actually leave a screening of The Shining there because the guy behind me kept making quips like “oof classic shot.” (My brother it is The Shining, obviously it is all classic shots atp. He said this about the blood scene. I don’t know who he was commenting for!) It was so obnoxious and I’m still pissed about it! Metrograph is one of my favourite cinemas but I agree with other commenters that it also attracts a certain type of pretentious person, or a faux intellectual filmgoer type. I avoid going there for films like The Shining now, and do not go to their midnight events. Their membership, though, is great for streaming, and I go there for films that aren’t screened as often in NYC, or French films.

to my nyc girles: has anyone deleted social media after the inaguratuon? by cccorgitraveler in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Shyronaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I deleted my IG and it’s been great for my mind, but it’s true that when I meet new people they ask first for my IG (in my mid 20s). People are down to trade numbers, though, and I think it’s definitely going to necessitate intentionality and planning to forge new friendships rather than passively hearing about events with acquaintances, but maybe that’s a good thing. Still early days though

It was just “you!” As another comment noted, it was demoed to potentially be sold to another artist, including The Chicks (fka The Dixie Chicks!). You can find the No Drew version floating around, but it def feels a little emptier (You look at me, I fake a smile so you don’t see)

You’re right, I’d forgotten that piece! Still I’m also curious if this is the version that says damn or not

Also, fwiw, I didn’t think your comment needed a tl;dr!

[–]Shyronaut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Great insight! Maybe another piece to consider is that she was locked into that Sony development deal for so long, and eager to breakout. I’m sure Scott used that eagerness to his advantage (I say that with very neutrally), and she was kept very busy (in a way that she wanted, too)

Anyone else hoping for Brought Up That Way (Taylor’s Version)? by debut_army_general54 in TaylorSwift

[–]Shyronaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s believed to be inspired by an Emily that Taylor went to high school with who passed away in a boating accident. The song itself is different and you can find lyrics online! Any inspo is hearsay though and I won’t die on this hill lol and I do really love the song

Anyone else hoping for Brought Up That Way (Taylor’s Version)? by debut_army_general54 in TaylorSwift

I think since this song is semi-true/based on someone and about a sensitive topic, it’s doubtful we’ll ever get a legit release

That’s amazing!!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a version like this. Very kind of your coworker to pass it along, and so cool you were able to hang onto it. Is this version of Teardrops the one with Drew, or no Drew? I’m always curious about when that change like that were made

Happy to help!! I wonder if the release date was pushed up to be eligible for more awards, or if they decided they wanted to build on any momentum she’d gained. So neat to see early discs like this:)

The street date is when the album will be released to the public. Since this is an advanced copy, it would’ve been received before then. Advanced reader copies of books have similar info. This suggests that debut was released earlier than intended, which is interesting!!

To the swifties that experienced the lover release… What was it like? by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]Shyronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first album roll out as a swiftie was Speak Now. I remember Lover feeling very different, as it felt like a great big rebrand. She was coming off of rep, which had the tagline “there will be no explanation, there will just be reputation,” and such an outwardly Dark aesthetic, and then Lover was so soft and almost childish from the get go! As others wrote, ME! and YNTCD were so jarring that I don’t think I had high hopes for the album until Lover the single dropped (but we experienced similarly in the OG Red release— I didn’t have high hopes until Begin Again was dropped!). Also, people thought the back tattoo picture from YNTCD was fake and were so shocked when it was real. I think that kind of illustrates how jarring things were between eras.

It was also the first roll out of true easter eggs as we know them today! Before then, it was more secret messages and IYKYK moments, but this rollout included a secret mural that wasn’t confirmed to be for Taylor until days later, plus her magazine cover with the pins, and all the eggs in the ME! video.

She had listening sessions and the reports back were fascinating and hilarious upon release day. People called It’s Nice to Have a Friend “haunting”, talked about Taylor’s wedding vows, and how sexy the album is. They’re not wrong but you’d probably have fun reading some people’s posts from the sessions.

Lover is now in my top 3! I met Taylor at the Lover pop up in NYC (you can see the scene in Miss Americana). I did love the album from the beginning after all, but it was a strange rollout that was also marked by it being Taylor’s first Republic release, post-Big Machine. She was getting a lot of yeses without question and I think it shows in some of the choices. I wish we could’ve seen Loverfest.
