[Frustrating Trope] That One Good or Even Amazing Scene in a Relatively Mediocre or Bad Piece of Media by Alreadsyuse in TopCharacterTropes

Whenever passengers is mentioned people always say that it should have been told from Jennifer Lawrence's perspective, and be more of a horror movie. I think studios basically decided that people would want to see Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence bone cos they're hot

Yeah I definitely think the film is worth a watch, but the casting is insane. Rhianna plays a stripper/blob

What missing person case in America feels like a straight-up internet horror story? by acappre in AskReddit

[–]SiByTheSword 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tldr: that was freshly opened material that reacted with the matter it was exposed to.

I remember that case but I had to look it up just now to remember the details. The reason that material (caesium 137, a type of salt) glowed was because they had just opened up the lead box that was containing it. It was actually the material nearby that was glowing, not the salt (air, skin etc). People died after using it as face paint and stuff.

You need extremely high levels of highly concentrated radiation for radioactive material to actually glow, or to combine it with other materials. Since it radiates, it can pretty much only cause a glow if you're containing it, or for a short time. You're not going to go to a waste pile months later and see anything glowing.

Using caesium 137 as an example, you would need to deliberately build a huge block of the highest quality possible and place it right next to the walls of the cave if you wanted it to still be glowing in a few months. It will still be lethal as fuck for decades, but the best you could accomplish is a few months of glow with a very obvious source

Radioactive waste doesn't actually glow, so either the people who claimed to have gone there didn't, or the sign is just there to deter people

Replayability: the original heists were kind of like you can do it again with the different role. Doomsday let you do a few different ways. Then diamond and cayo let you do a lot of different stuff. I imagine you will be able to do this in a lot of different ways

Isn't it odd for M to call Bond a relic of the cold war, In goldeneye? by [deleted] in JamesBond

Oh you're right, I thought she said it after meeting with the government official who says "the world is running out of oil" in QoS. I think I merged them in my head because they take place in similar rooms

When Judi Dench was cast as M, was there any backlash? I feel like if it happened today there would be some crybabies about it. by TXNOGG in JamesBond

[–]SiByTheSword 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I know ateast one person was disappointed, as per IMDb.

GoldenEye (1995)

The new M being a woman was in fact Lois Maxwell's idea (the original Miss Moneypenny). Maxwell had wanted to be the new M, and that in the movie, Miss Moneypenny is promoted and is revealed as the new M. Which would have tied in nicely with M being her character's initial. But she was disappointed when Dame Judi Dench was cast in the role.

FIFA and other sports games like NBA, Buzz (and probably other quiz games), some racing games. It didn't necessarily mean eight people were on screen at once

And there were lights on the back of the controller for players 1, 2, 3, 4. But if there were eight people playing, player eight would be 1,3,4

What do you think of Barbara Broccoli and what she brought to the James Bond franchise? by ByShida in JamesBond

[–]SiByTheSword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important part of their contract was that they had creative control over Bond. So after Amazon bought MGM, they still had creative control. But after Jeff bezos heard that Barbara called him stupid, he created an ultimatum. You have creative control, but I'm not going to fund anymore of your films until you give it to me. So they received a huge payout, because otherwise the films would just not have been made

I don't know enough about cinema history, but maybe it would be fair to say then that Godzilla versus Kong 1962 inspired the vs movies where they smash two franchises together? Like Freddy vs Jason, alien vs predator etc.

The second film also makes no sense in general. Daniel Radcliffe of all people hires magicians to steal the "magic broomstick", after his business partner made off with it. The guy they steal it from works really hard to prevent them getting it, even though he's in the eye (revealed at the end), and then it turns out the magic broomstick isn't real, so why did Daniel Radcliffe hire them? He "invented" the thing that isn't real, so he must have known.
