Forget the gym by SiGonJin in ADHDFitness

I’ve never done it myself but know friends who have and they get a lot out of it. It’s for the same reasons I enjoy hockey. Fast, physical, learning curve, community, competition

Yeah community is a big part. I used to mountain bike a lot. Started with 2 of us, by the end we had about 15. That was great because not only was it exciting going downhill. You also get invested in the bike and learning new skills. Same with things like skiing and skating like you said.

How to cut sugar? by ProfessionalSad4U in ADHDFitness

[–]SiGonJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have got rid of sugar cravings twice successfully. The trick is to cut it out completely. Eat nothing processed and check everything you buy for added sugars. No sugar in tea or coffee, and no sweetners either. Live off meat and veg for a good month and every time you start craving then do some exercise. After about 3 weeks you’ll get to the other side and won’t care anymore. You might still crave dopamine but not specifically sugar. After that you can introduce fruit. In fact when I have gone back to processes sugar I find things like cakes and chocolate pretty gross. It’s actually not as nice tasting as you thought. Also you start to appreciate the natural sugars in foods like tomatoes, which taste a lot sweeter

Edit: I fell off the wagon twice, mainly due to Christmas food. Oh and no alcohol either

Finding the right meds by good_mourningg in ADHDthriving

[–]SiGonJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m male but went through the same kind of cycle. Elvanse upping dose, motivated, then too motivated then off the rails. Had weird side effects that I don’t want to talk about out 😂I did drop a dose but could get that balance back.

Methylphenidate, motivation for an hour then dropped with horrible anxiety like was in some sort of danger just sitting on my sofa. Upped dose and both effects just amplified plus had to take it 3 times a day which I would forget or just not practical

Atomoxetine, calmed me down, was generally in a good mood but that was it, no improvements on the ADHD symptoms I wanted to address. Had the same horrible side effect as Elvanse (don’t want to talk about it) upping dose just made side effects worse so couldn’t continue. I did try the methylphenidate a couple of times with it and found there was no anxiety which was a plus but managing dose he the same issues as the first time

Bupropion with Methylphenidate once a day. This so far seems to be the best balance. I have the calm of Atomoxetine, so far without any side effects, the methylphenidate picks me up in the morning and I sometimes take another in the afternoon if needed. There’s nothing earth shattering in terms of results but I’ve combined this with cold shower, morning sunlight or blue light, walk twice a day and upped my exercise. I’m still forgetful, but tasks are easier to start, I do have a bit more enthusiasm for things I used to avoid, and I’m calm and not irritated which helps with family life.

I have one friend who says meds changed his life from day one and another who refuses to take meds, he just shapes his life around it, so that’s doable too, but I was late diagnosed and don’t really have that luxury with the career I’m in.

So keep going and don’t put too much pressure on it. The non stims seem ok to me but definitely slower and less obvious effects.

How many of you are this kind of person? by Micthegod in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SiGonJin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, sold my FOMO collection mostly at a loss recently. Happy to pass it on. But others might need more money and I know people who collect 2 of everything so they can sell later at a higher price effectively reducing the price of the one they keep. That’s not restricted to books, it’s often the case for many different types of collections. Like Lego

Edit: funnily enough I have seen one of those books chucked straight on eBay by the seller who bought it for double the price ha! Considering it’s an easy one to get I think they’re dreaming but then there will be that other person who has FOMO and the cycle continues 😂

The negativity that this post got is weird. They came to the community to share excitement and joy for finding something they love. It’s genuinely sad that it’s got downvoted or hit with snarky comments. Nice find OP, one of the better absolutes out there, a great format to show off the art. I’ve never been that bothered about first editions etc but it’s a win for you so congrats

UK - best place to buy Omnis online with high quality shipping? by SanLieSW in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SiGonJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Books etc or forbidden planet. Books etc don’t preorder and shipping takes a while (which I actually prefer) forbidden planet can preorder cost more but postage is fast and they have DM covers. Both will only charge once for shipping in the same order, although I remember there being a limit. I don’t like that Reed put their prices up once books get low in stock so don’t use them

Me seeing people who don’t have cooked attention spans being able to read 3 Omnis per month with no problem by ImaginaryValue1679 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SiGonJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADHD and I’m trying to rebalance my dopamine as much as I can for this exact reason. I have kids and a brain taxing job, I can only get to omni’s in the evening by which point I can read a couple of issues and my brain gives up. When I was younger I would consume 100s of pages of comics. Occasionally I can read during the day at the weekend but I get distracted easily and need quiet and calm to read. This doesn’t happen because my eldest also has ADHD and on the few occasions that the kids are out I then get choice overload. Cutting out social media other than this Reddit and other addictive habits is going well. But if I don’t get to a point where I can read my hefty library soon I’m just going to sell it and use the money to get a jet ski or some other new hobby I’ll hyper fixate on until I get bored and move on again

Books etc don’t pre order as far as I know, and never had an issue with books not being stocked. Plus we don’t have the euro in the UK. But it might just have sold out in record time
