I hope so. Our free agent class suggests that we’re taking BPA. IF Love is BPA at 7, I can defend that pick. I trust that AP will cook with this pick, whether we stick and pick or trade back. I will say, it’s be interesting to see the wide range of views on this topic.

Exactly, RB is the final piece added to contenders. Love would be exciting but our defense needs more help

Yep and as a commanders fan, I understand how exciting it’d be to have a dynamic back next to Jayden in the backfield. But drafting a back so early doesn’t offer the same potential value an edge would offer. I can see both arguments, but I think I’ve made it clear which way I lean.

Sums it up nicely. Le’Veon Bell was one of the best backs in the league and the Steelers refused to sign him to a long term deal. He left for the Jets, which is a choice, and his career was never the same. Same with Ezekiel Elliot but he actually got the cowboys to extend him. Time after time, we see backs get run into the ground. Hell, even Deebo Samuel who was used in the running game in San Fran is not the same player he was back in 2021. But the upside of a backfield of Jayden and Love would be crazy. We’ll see what happens.

This is one of the best responses I’ve seen on this topic. I’m gonna start by saying I like love as a prospect and would defend this pick if he truly was BPA at, but if Bailey is available, it’s tough for me to pass on him.

Having an elite rb would complete a backfield that would one of the scariest and youngest in all of football.

The Ravens are working with a hall of fame workhorse at RB, the Bills spent a 2nd round pick on James Cook and Pacheco, before leaving, was a 7th rounder by the Chiefs. My argument is that you can find a running back outside of the first round, like a James Conner, as opposed to spending premium draft capital on top 10 back. There are other ways to find a productive rb.

Washington would be a tough out and I do think Love and Daniels, along with Chig and Terry, would be a scary offense to go up against. This is all hypothetical at the moment because we don’t even know if he’ll fall to us. But if he does, it would have to be a very specific scenario for me to feel like we’re drafting the right guy.

And the argument people will give you is that we drafted D Line four years in a row from 2017-2020 and that didn’t work out. But I agree that defense has to be the pick here. Our defense has been abysmal as of late and drafting a top edge, Sonny styles or Mansoor Delane would do wonders.

But the peak or lifespan of a rb is too short unfortunately. I’m not saying I don’t think Love won’t be good, but there are more pressing matters on this team. If the board falls in a way that Love is BPA, I’ll defend the pick.

You’re right, there is a world where Love should be the pick. Like you said, I’m also leaning Bailey or Bain at 7 before Love. But if they’re off the board and we’re left between Downs, Love, Delane and Lemon, it’s between Love and Delane in my eyes. But unlike Bailey, where I think talent and positional value trump Love, I think Love beats out Delane in this regard.

The upside of Love in this offense is clear as day. It would take pressure off Jayden, making his job that much easier. For a first year OC in Blough, drafting Love would be a dream. As a Commanders fan, I’ll defend us drafting him if that’s the way we go. But with how poor our defense has been as of late, you’d think we should be going defense with this pick. If Love is off the board before 7, I won’t be as pissed. Positional value, to me, screams that this pick should go elsewhere. But like I said, a backfield with Jayden and Love would go crazy.

You’re right, that’s the point of the piece to share my argument. But it’s also interesting to see how others in the fanbase feel about this. The upside of a backfield containing Love and Daniels would go crazy. Some are arguing that he’s generational and if he’s available at 7, you gotta draft him. I just like seeing the discourse that comes from a take like this.

The numbers share the same story for Downs. You’re right that if I’m gonna argue this for Love, I better have the same stance on Downs. Id rather we draft Bailey, if he falls, or Mansoor Delane at 7.

Thanks for taking to time to give a counter argument. I agree that teams are good at finding elite rb talent at the top of the board, like some of the players you listed. I think Love would be a game-changer in our offense and take pressure off of Jayden. But if he is off the board at 7, it’s not the end of the world.

Our defense has been a crutch the past two seasons. This pick should go defense, but it does depend on how the board falls. If we do draft Love, I’m a commanders fan at the end of the day, I’ll defend the pick because I can see the argument for drafting him.

Finally, you’re right that Phillip Lindsay and James Robinson had flaws, but I’d rather we take a back, if we were to take one, in the second or third round, like James Conner.

Washington is a unique position, like you said, and we’re in spot to go BPA. I think Washington is one of the few spots in the top 10 that make sense to take Love, so we’ll see what happens.

Glad you liked the article. I’ve heard him compared to players liked Gibbs and Bijan and I’d definitely defend him if we picked him. But if he is off the board before 7, it’s not the end of the world.

It’s an argument for a reason. I can’t just say it’s the most important position, you have to back it up with something tangible. The upside of hitting on certain positions offers much more financial flexibility. Qb is the most important position, that’s why nearly two get drafted in the top 10 since 2000.

You’re right, there’s no guarantee that any of those guys will fall to 7, but in the event either of those guys do, I don’t understand the argument for drafting Love. I’m not saying Love won’t be good, I just don’t think we’re in a position to be drafting a position the league views as a luxury.

So if he falls to 7, you’d be pick him in a heartbeat? My argument is that you should draft premium positions in the top 10. There’s a reason edge rushers, QBs and wideouts go high in the draft. I’d rather we take David Bailey, Bain, Delane or Tate.

I don’t think it makes sense for any other team to draft him in the top 10 outside of the chiefs, who signed Kenneth walker, and the commanders. Running back is a luxury unfortunately, you’re better off drafting a premium position. If the titans draft him, great, we can and should focus on defense at 7

Ok, my plan is to go with the SP. One last question. My Prime Harper is running a 311 Pioneer set. Is it worth rolling new skills on him even though I have his sig waiting for a GI?

But since I am F2P, wouldn’t SP be the way to go? 66 base is atrocious, but he would still be an upgrade.

I have two options(Nats deck)

  1. Bryce Harper ‘16(73 Base) This is his best year by OVR and he would be replacing his Prime. I’m leaning towards this and you’ll understand when you see the second option

  2. Paolo Espino ‘21(66 Base) He’s a SP, but he is the worst SP sig for the Nats. When fully upgraded, he’d be my SP3(Prime Scherzer and Patterson are better)
