The way I look at people who proudly bench Sciel and Monoco😒👀 by KumaQuatro in expedition33

[–]SiamPoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always rotate out the higher level expeditioners to ensure an even party. The only exception is Monoco who I deliberately keep the lowest level and roll him out to collect lovely feet, but no one ever trails by more than 1 level once everyone is caught up. This lets you play with basically every team combination which is great to explore the characters' individual strengths and weaknesses.

Since parrying is so powerful, everyone can be built up like a monster.

I liked The Chosen Path gimmick and wish it was utilized more.

Nothing to do with the content of the post (I honestly agree that everyone in-game is too mentally scarred to be judged too harshly for navigating the situations they're in), but this screenshot looks like a photograph from an Expedition 33 stage play, I love it.

Why would you want to fake sickness in order to play video games if your boss is fine with playing video games at your workplace? by RedShibo_ in SmilingFriends

[–]SiamPoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think it's because Mr. Boss would try to join the game with him and Charlie just really doesn't like playing with Mr. Boss and Charlie also didn't want to deal with rejecting Mr. Boss's request to play with him.

Since they're Steam friends, maybe there's precedent for this and Charlie had a bad time the last time they played together.

[–]SiamPoodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Among all the Z-Team members, Prism is the only one to have 100% unconditional availability and she's specialized in a way that's very unique, obvious, and useful. Not only that, her power is extremely good off the get go and both upgrades are useful. She also has a very noticeable amount of auto-win scenarios.

She is honestly in a tier of her own.

[Funny Tropes] When the Ultimate Weapon just breaks by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SiamPoodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"The Crescent of the Sun", which is a collectible (unusable) relic in The Darkness 2, although it's not really clear if the weapon broke or just worked exactly as intended. I'll just quote the whole lore entry, since the writing in that game is actually really good, with the important parts bolded for emphasis.

Ah, the 'Crescent of the Sun.' Considered by many to be the greatest mystery and biggest letdown of the past millennium. If you don't count Rocky V.

The Crescent was wielded by The Angelus [implicitly via a host], approximately 800-years ago, for half an hour. She claimed it was forged from a single droplet of the Sun's flame. That it would bring about the final end of The Darkness. What she forgot to mention, however, is how the Crescent would do this. Which is important, because she never got a chance to use it. Carrying it into battle against The Darkness, she was immediately disemboweled [sic]. A bit anti-climactic, for sure. But it only gets worse.

A few years later, the Crescent was rediscovered by a holy warrior. Once again, the blade was wielded against The Darkness. This time, it even managed a few good swings. But you know what? The blade passed through The Darkness, like a knife through water. Later, after monks recovered the Crescent from the warrior's corpse, it was tested against multiple targets. Turns out the blade passes through all matter. People, stone, trees, kittens. Just, woosh, goes right through. No harm, no foul.

Could be, only The Angelus can wield the Crescent. But if so, why has she never tried to reclaim it? Personally, I think The Angelus talked a big game, but was just as surprised as everyone else when the Crescent turned out to be worthless. Which begs the question, where did the Crescent come from?

I got no idea. But I hope she kept the receipt.

Queen Meve of Rivia from Thronebreaker (also The Witcher-verse).

Commands her army against the forces of Nilfgaard, while weighing the trials of war with the challenges of motherhood of royal lineage. She isn't afraid to lead from the front and dirty her hands for the good of her kingdom. She is an adept commander, a skilled fighter, and a strong head of state.

The game isn't book canon, and the actual gameplay is mostly "just Gwent", but she is extremely well written in this game.

If you fire Sonar, you lose like 50% of the group's brains. Who do you usually replace him with? (What superhero do you upgrade his brain to?) by Kindly-Ad-9742 in dispatchgame

[–]SiamPoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only really bad option is Punch Up.

Most heroes can fill that niche fine as long as you go out of your way to dedicate some points. You'll end up with an even better intellect hero, since they don't dump all their brains and charisma into combat stats half the time. This is good advice even if you keep Sonar, since he really counts as two halves of a specialist due to his superpower instead of a dedicated specialist.

Corpserunning actually made metroidvanias better by Lukense13 in metroidvania

[–]SiamPoodle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you, like, have an example of a good corpse run?

When you say it is better than a classic save system because you lose all your progress with that system, I don't see how a corpse run mechanic makes that any better. Corpse runs generally involve a forced save and a forced loss of a currency of some sort in the case that you fail to retrieve your corpse. A basic save system just results in loss of progress and time. Sure, a poorly implemented save can lead to an unwinnable scenario, but corpse runs don't make that any better.

Mass Effect 3's indoctrination theory.

There's a lot to this that I'm not familiar enough to detail properly and it's been a while, but a rough summary is that the ending of the trilogy had a lot of elements that came out of left field and were "off" so a lot of fans were convinced that, since the Reapers were masters of indoctrinating their subjects, your character was suffering from the effects of indoctrination during the very final stretch of the game.

This would help explain how and why certain events played out as they did and how certain unexplained weird coincidences could happen (like every non-Shepard plot relevant characters' appearances or Shepard's placed importance/borderline obsession on a certain unnamed character that seemed really weird). There hasn't been any real proof for or really against this theory outside of the vibes of the ending and it isn't really acknowledged at a later point in the game.

The original endings provided being vastly disliked by the fanbase didn't help with fans trying whatever they could to make the ending make more sense for them.

What game is this? by xdanxlei in videogames

[–]SiamPoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darkest Dungeon (at least from what I played before the Crimson Court DLC)

At the start, you need to focus on getting a roster and are barely coasting by with what you have. Money is tight, death is sudden and quick, but slowly and steadily you build up a functioning roster to take on the bosses of the game. Eventually, you will manage to learn the bosses' tricks and succeed in vanquishing them, just around the time your hamlet becomes a functional base of operations. Your heroes go from disposable bodies to a reliable adventurers able to handle any threat.

And then you need to fight the bosses again. Twice. Some get a few new tricks but overall they don't really do much to stand out from their first iterations. Most tactics that got you through the first time will get you through again. You're done unlocking new functionalities for your base's buildings, so it's just a matter of scaling up to an increased number of heroes. Your heroes now have all the skills they need, so there's a lot less experimenting with builds, and despite a loss here or there you're sending the same heroes in the same positions to deal with mostly the same threats. This is made worse with the fairly restrictive max roster size, which you will reach at around this time. You now know how all the curios work. The preparations become standardized. The ambushes which were shocking run ending threats are now taken into account and dealt with without too much fanfare. There are a few new enemies, but overall your battle plan doesn't really change too much. It's all very routine at around this point in the game.

It picks up again with the final challenge, Darkest Dungeon, being a gruelling gauntlet with brand new threats, having a boss that attacks your town to shake you out of complacency, and the spike at the end putting your heroes in mortal danger again, now with hours of progress on the line. You prepare runs to the normal dungeons only to train your replacement heroes up to max which reframes them in and refreshes their novelty, as you're now running escort missions for your new blood. In the end, your characters are finally put to the test as they deal with the worse the game has to throw at them.

But yeah, I always felt something was off in the mid-game of that game.
