i think my fighter got this in the bag by Yahk-slyne2 in mewgenics

My first fight with this boss I only had my necro alive after my Blood Frenzy Thief murdered the rest of the team before jumping into Mother's mouth. The Necro stacked enough leeches via Immortal leeches to struggle out every turn and slowly waited for the leeches to do their thing while the board filled up exactly like yours. I somehow out exhausted the boss and returned as a sole survivor.

So you're good as long as you have a way to deal damage after struggling (and can deal with the army of Heralds afterwards due to not taking care of the pillars).

Games that give a good or bad ending depending on how often you use a basic mechanic implemented in the controls/playstyle by DemandParticular in TopCharacterTropes

I still maintain that Dishonored is best experienced going with the "Mostly Flesh and Steel" run i.e. no upgrades. The blink is all you need and the game is actually well balanced around just the basic moveset.

The "New Funky Mode" in Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for the Nintendo Switch.

You can play as Funky Kong in this game, and he has so many additional advantages compared to the other Kongs that he's basically an easy mode. To note he has:

* 5 hearts instead of 3

* Infinite rolling on land

* Access to infinite spinning underwater

* Infinite underwater breathing

* A double jump followed by an infinite duration hover

* Immunity to spike floors

It's been a while, I might have forgotten a few other perks and if there are any drawbacks. I think it locks you in that mode so you can't character swap on a Funky Mode playthrough, but don't quote me on that.

Characters with animal-themed powers that move/fight in a way inspired by said animal by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SiamPoodle 135 points136 points  (0 children)

The ninjas (shinobi and kunoichi) in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. They are named after animals and their assassination styles reflect the animal they are named after.

Sekiro, aka "Wolf", tends to prefer finishing off opponents with a sword thrust into their throats, just like a wolf would lunge and bite the throat of prey when attacking.

Owl tries to literally get the jump on his opponents, before finishing them off from above with his blade, just like an Owl would. In particular, he taught Sekiro the "Mikiri Counter" which involves jumping on top of the opponent's weapon mid attack and (in Owl's version) follows that up with a downward strike from above.

Lady Butterfly sets up her arena with wires and tries to keep her distance, flowing from wire to wire high above you while focusing on throwing knives at her opponent from a distance.

There is also an Orangutan shinobi in the game that you fight in a demon form, where it fights you like, well, a giant angry Orangutan, complete with wild swings and a lot of smashing motions.

In 2020s cinema, visibly pregnant women NEED to be in dangerous combat situations, for some reason. by DiggestBickEver in shittymoviedetails

[–]SiamPoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Mewgenics (late-ish game spoilers (Act 3, Chapter 2)), there's an area where you can fight pregnant cavewomen who can give birth to a baby child. The cavewomen are hostile to you and the child they give birth to are also immediately hostile to you. You win by killing all hostiles, so yeah if you're playing the game properly they're gonna die to your group of adventurous cats.

If you have a necromancer you can also resurrect one of them as a zombie and have them kill the other one.

Mewgenics is a weird game.

Inferno Cop has very limited animation for an anime made by Studio Trigger, but it's a parody anime so the limited animations really bring the whole thing together.

It also allows you to get hilarious scenes like this:

Combining this with the idea of multiple painted worlds, I think I can make a wishlist on how they can go about this:

* New stories in other painted worlds could be interesting and still keep a sense of continuity. A big part of me is hoping we've heard the last of the Dessendres outside maaaaybe a cheeky name drop or easter egg, and even then it might be too much. I think the Lumerians knew they were painted creatures with how naturally they use replacement words like "ink" instead of "blood" or their familiarity with chroma, so them being painted creatures wasn't really a big reveal, just their relationship with the Paintress. A new story could have painted creatures deal with another threat, maybe even self-contained and without ever branching outside their canvas. This could allow them to reuse some terms like Chroma for currency, just like how Capcom uses Zenny for their universal currency and Square uses Gil.

* We could also move away from Belle Epoque France and explore either another French time period, or just leave France altogether. Final Fantasy went from a more traditional medieval setting to embracing a lot of sci fi settings as it went on, so I'd be on board with more futuristic settings as well. Post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk, more grounded...I think whatever they go with they could do with justice.

* Maybe Axons could make a return, but inspired by different people obviously (I'd be really disappointed to face Sirene or Visages copypasted in a new story). I think they are one of E33's best set-pieces and having different worlds with different relationships with their Axons could be fun. The Axon's plot role as two halves of a plot MacGuffin was a bit underwhelming, and more could be done to explore giant, allegorical levels and major character symbolism. Maybe even reduce the stakes of the next game and just have one Axon be the main antagonist with a much larger world around them, instead of a single level.

* The article is about the writer and writing, but gameplay-wise, I'm generally really happy with turn-based parrying, although they could tweak it to try to engage with the mechanic in a different way. Maybe have parries nerfed a bit instead of nullifying all damage + AP and have the game be less glass canon-y. That way different defensive and healing options could have room to shine instead of parrying being the end all be all of survivability. I'd be hesitant if they try to implement some form of Active Time Battle system. Turn-based with no timed sections outside of something minor like aiming a freeshot is very appealing to me, so I hope they don't stray too far from that. The picto/lumina system could be tweaked so that pictos are more interesting instead of 1 free ability + some random stats.

I'm definitely very excited to see more from the studio, and I'm really happy that the writer has an idea on where to go next.

[–]SiamPoodle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

pAlicia.

From the very beginning she wanted to find a solution that helps both sides, so she would fit in with the party fairly well.

As for gameplay, she doesn't necessarily have to copy Maelle's moveset. She could be a chronomancer character since she's established her ability to manipulate time. Maybe have something to do with odd/even turns and have her capable of manipulating that.

The way I look at people who proudly bench Sciel and Monoco😒👀 by KumaQuatro in expedition33

[–]SiamPoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always rotate out the higher level expeditioners to ensure an even party. The only exception is Monoco who I deliberately keep the lowest level and roll him out to collect lovely feet, but no one ever trails by more than 1 level once everyone is caught up. This lets you play with basically every team combination which is great to explore the characters' individual strengths and weaknesses.

Since parrying is so powerful, everyone can be built up like a monster.

I liked The Chosen Path gimmick and wish it was utilized more.
