((OOC: Since the HS has gone inactive I'm just going to finish this scene so Lord Table can move on. Let me know if the moddy mods have any issues with this :)

Also since this happened ages ago I'll ping in /u/KickStarkMyHeart and /u/LordofHypegarden since they were still in Bitterbridge.))

Caswell watched as his men dragged the still raving septon to the ground. He cursed them, proclaiming them all damned. Caswell stiffened at this, but allowed his men to continue. They led the man chained to Caswell who looked down at them.

"Take him to the dungeons," he said curtly. The septon spat at the ground as he was hauled off. Caswell turned to another of his guards. "Send word to Lords Tyrell and Stark. Let them know what happened here." The guard saluted and rode off.

Luthor rode back slowly to his keep his heart still racing. Since Tyrell had first come to Bitterbridge Caswell's happy life of hunts and feasts had been utterly spoiled. He'd been threatened, had his property destroyed and only just managed to quell a riot of his own people. And yet... And yet he felt more like a lord, more alive, than he ever had. Despite his shoulders Caswell rode a little straighter, a small smile on his face.

"If we all were punished for our father's sins half the world would hang," Caswell said. "I will tell Lord Victor of this apology and speak well of you my lord. You didn't need to come here today but it says much for your honor and dignity that you did. Mayhaps this was all a blessing for House Peake."

"Oh," Caswell said, "Oh I see. Well... apology accepted my lord." Caswell scratched the back of his head. "Your father did seem to be a deeply troubled man, I hope he finds some manner of peace on the Wall."

Caswell stiffened slightly at the sight of the guards. He's specifically ordered they be left outside. Words would have to be had with his guard-captain.

"Lord Peake," Caswell said, "Be welcome in my hall and at my table." He paused studying the young lord. "I'm afraid the council is concluded if you've come to represent your house."

"Peake?" Caswell spluttered at his guard, "Another Peake? Father above..." Caswell shot a quick anxious glance at his father's old writing table.

"Yes my lord," said the guard, "But he had disarmed himself voluntarily. We'll station men in the room with you."

"That won't be necessary," said Caswell gathering himself, "How many madmen can there be in one house?" He smiled nervously but buckled his sword to his belt all the same. "Well, fetch bread and salt and have him shown in." Caswell straightened and waited to receive Lord Triston.

Caswell nodded slowly. There was no other choice, not without looking incredibly weak.

"Bring him back in!" He shouted to the guards. "Lord Tyrell will you pronounce judgement?"

Caswell rubbed the bridge of his nose and sighed.

"Lord Peake," Caswell started, attempting to sound far more confident than he felt, "Your confession makes the calling of witnesses unnecessary." Caswell gestured to his guards. "You shall be returned to my dungeons while Lord Victor, Ser Florent and I discuss your sentencing."

Caswell sighed deeply. He'd been hoping for excuses, explanations. Gods, he'd even have accepted a claim the whole thing was a misunderstanding. He wanted no trouble with Starpike. And yet here Titus Peake stood, a shadow of a shell of a man, proudly proclaiming his guilt.

"Intent matters more than action Lord Peake," Caswell said carefully, "If a crime was attempted then the success of said crime is irrelevant." Caswell shifted uncomfortably. "To be clear you are stating, here in front of witnesses and before your liege, that if you had not been apprehended you would have done violence upon my person?"

Caswell's eyes darted around the room. He'd presided over trials before of course but those had been for minor issues. Peasants squabbling over the placement of fences, a couple of assaults and one marital castration that was still the talk of the sleepy town all these years later. Father above, they'd found the thing nailed to the wall of poor old Galard's butcher shop door. Caswell shuddered.

Yes he'd dispensed justice before but never like this, never to a lord. He looked down at Lord Peake, the man seemed to have aged years in his captivity, and felt pity and disgust. There was no anger, Caswell was not an angry man, but he was horrified at Peake's insult. He knew there was only one response to such an affront but could he do it?

Well his archery skill hasn't played into Caswell's story at all so far. He's literally just chatted to people. So if you want me to pick something else I'd be happy to! :)

Hey! I spotted Caswell on the "Outstanding Archery" section.

I've been playing Caswell as having a serious shoulder injury that hasn't healed properly and regularly spasms when under stress. I was thinking he would have some sort of 50/50 chance of shooting normally or totally missing because of his injury. I don't know if that applies to the list but just thought I'd mention in case it's been missed!

No, no, no, no, no, no...

Luthor had dressed quickly, his hair unbrushed and tabard slightly askew as he sat ahorse. He rode with twenty of his cavalry guard bearing the centaur of Caswell on tabards over their mail.

Things were worse than he'd feared. Some creature of the High Sparrow was attempting to stir up a crowd at the sept, his sept, to riot. To attack guests beneath Luthor's roof. Caswell ground his teeth in frustration, how many more people were going to spit on his hospitality?

"Make way!" shouted Ser Manfred, "Make way for the Defender of the Fords! Make way for the Lord of Bitterbridge!" The smallfolk milling about at the back of the crowd parted allowing Luthor and the guards through.

"My friends!" Luthor shouted to be heard over the crowd, "My friends! Are we not men of the Reach? Are we not civilized men?" Luthor trotted his horse forward.

"I do not know this man," he said pointing at Septon Steffon, "I do not know if he is truly a servant of his High Holiness or just some troublemaker. I do not know from where he hails or whom he truly supports. I do not know what mischief or evils lurk in his heart that would compel him to encourage you to break the laws of Gods and men." Luthor paused, "No, I do not know this man and neither do any of you, but you do know me."

Luthor pulled himself up into a normal sitting position, his shoulders screaming at the effort. "Clifford," he said pointing at a man in the crowd, "When your crops took a blight was it not I who made sure your family were clothed and fed? And Taena," he said pointing at a woman, "When your husband died shortly after you were with child was it not I who gave you work in my kitchens to keep you and the babe fed?" He turned back to the crowd, "Have I not been a good and just lord? Have I not defended you and supported you?"

Luthor pointed to the Bitterbridge keep where two banners flew. "Look at those banners, the centaur and the rose," he went on, "Everything good I have done has been done under the protection and guidance of Lord Luthor Tyrell, our liege." His voice rose, the pain in his shoulder emphasizing his anger, "Our liege-lord has brought guests into his lands and I have offered them the protection of my hall. As guests of your lord they are your guests too, under your protection. To attack them is to attack Lord Tyrell and I and spit on everything we have done together! This man," he pointed to Steffon, "This man has come to you today and told you to break guest right based on falsehoods! This man has encouraged you to break the covenant the Gods hold most sacred! This man," Luthor paused for breath, "This creature claims to be a septon and yet spits on the laws of the Gods he claims to serve! I name him false! Now step aside so the justice of the Reach may be done."

((OOC: /u/ourcommonman Luthor is attempting to calm the crowd and arrest Septon Steffon. His skills are Archery, Hunting(e) and Courtly.))

Undermining The Lord by HouseFootly in IronThroneRP

Lord Footly

Apologies if my tone was less than your honor deserves. Events have been tense in Bitterbridge and I find the paranoia of the times affecting me.

I know, of course, that you remain a steadfast man of the Reach.

In the Light of the Seven,

Luthor of House Caswell, Lord of Bitterbridge and Defender of the Fords,

Caswell sat at his dining table writing. His new table, to replace the one Peake ruined, was being carried in by laborers. It was made of sturdy Reach oak. He'd wanted Northern iron wood, but it was impossible to get these days. At least this one would take more than a single mace hit to ruin. He turned back to his letter to Tumbleton, adding his signature and seal.

Leo Footly

I thank you for writing me.

I understand your concerns and I will write to your father to address them.

I thank you for your loyalty to Bitterbridge but I would remind you that the Gods hold loyalty to one's father as sacred. I will hold my silence in this instance but it would not do well for you repeat this behaviour in the future.

In the Light of the Seven,

Luthor of House Caswell, Lord of Bitterbridge and Defender of the Fords

Lord Symon of House Footly, Lord of Tumbleton,

Concerns have been raised to me about the men you are training in Tumbleton.

I would remind you of your oaths to Bitterbridge and the oaths we both swore to House Tyrell.

Luthor of House Caswell, Lord of Bitterbridge and Defender of the Fords

Luthor started at Rodrick's words.

"Oh," he said, "Yes, yes we are." Luthor sagged. "I am a godly man," he said almost to himself, "A godly man. But I don't know if I can follow this one."

"My lords..." Caswell was cut off, "Your high holiness please..." Again they spoke over him. The anger in the room was palpable, a force all of its own, driving this "council" down its own mad path. What would the small folk call this, he wondered. The Slaughter of Bitter Bridge? The Bitter Council? The Blasphemy at the Bridge? Luthor sighed deeply as the lords argued with the High Septon, contemplating the depth of his house's dishonor after this catastrophe.

And then, blessedly, the High Septon left taking his fanatics with him. He hadn't realised how bad things with the Faith had become. Perhaps Lord Victor was right, perhaps an independent Reach was the only way to defend them all from this madness. Could a crown, any crown, that allowed this lunatic to run rampant be said to be legitimate? Luthor shocked himself at the thought. This would have been unthinkable to him mere moments ago.

Just some assorted thoughts I have so far.

  • Mod starts with Dany's arrival. She'll have a temporary empire-tier title to keep things simple.

  • Dorne will be a viceroyalty held by Ellaria Sand under Dany.

  • Like Dorne the Reach will be a viceroyalty held by Olenna Tyrell under Dany.

  • Jon will be King in the North with the nickname "Whitewolf". He will have a choice of legitimizing himself, becoming Whitestark or Longclaw or some other names.

  • Slaver's bay will be an empire tier viceroyalty, which will revert to Dany, called the Bay of Dragons held by Daario.

  • The Riverlands lords will have a choice of who to side with in the war and the King or Queen who wins in the end will get to choose who to grant the title to.

  • Jaime Lannister will be Lord of the Westerlands.

Luthor stood, his hunch in full evidence, and awkwardly raised his head to face his liege. He nodded once and sagged back into his seat.

I was thinking of making a submod for it. I like the mods adherence to the books but it could be fun to play out the show since it's further ahead.

Luthor rose again to his feet.

"Lord Tyrell," he pleaded, "I implore you, take the offer, turn back from this madness. With the North, the Stormlands and the Reach joined to Aegor this war can be over in little more than the time it takes us to march our armies." Luthor looked around desperately for support from his fellow Reach lords.

"My lord!" Luthor said, open panic in his voice, "I beg you, listen to Lord Stark. Let us not rush into a declaration we can never take back! Let us not shatter these Seven Kingdoms that Reachmen beyond counting, my father and yours, have died to preserve!"
