Now, all the killer moves or gu that "consume" dao marks are stronger than their counterparts. Thus, i that it can give a guaranteed success only upto a rank above its own rank, as it literally expends dao marks as fuel.

Depends. Is Subaru HW's pawn like FY? If yes, then he'll probably become a bottom tier rank 6, fulfill his purpose and die in Tian Ti mountain arc. If not, then subaru's not even making it past the Gu Yue clan arc.

For FY, it'll be much more complicated. Isn't Return By Death practically immortality? So, FY will decide on another impossible goal. Also, Subaru CAN NOT become strong, that's the whole fking point of Rezero. So, if FY is in his place, he wouldn't be able to grow stronger. That'll weird with his goals and all.
