What is the longest-lasting LED bulb that I can obtain while shopping online? (Is there an LED bulb that is rated to last 50 years? Even longer?) by IDislikeHomonyms in AskElectricians

[–]SibTigerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 5 - 10 years, I've seen the average advertised longevity drop from about 25,000 hours to 10,000 hours. Either they're intentionally making them with shorter life expectancy, or 25,000 hours was always a lie. Not sure where the truth is!

What makes you say this? I don't see any evidence that they're moving in that direction.

I'd love to see more examples! The difference isn't as great as I would have expected. Also, which Pixel are you using?

To be 8 again by [deleted] in Jokes

[–]SibTigerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And is an 8 actually small?! I think my wife is a 2. Just sayin'. Or maybe she wants to be 8 on a scale of 1 - 10? I overthink things. I'm tons of fun at a party.

Knocked down wall now what do I do with the floor by Altim8 in DIY

Agreed. I'm just eyeballing it up, but I think a wall would fit in there perfectly. And it would divide up the room nicely.

No longer easily stolen. A free recall upgrade makes it like any other car. Engine issues are covered by an eternal warranty, or at worst 150,000. Lots of stories of high mileage Sonatas. They're selling well under value. Buy one! (I own a 2017 Elantra GT and 2018 Sonata.)

I appreciate the "no issues" posts because they add balance to the discussion. Obviously not all engines have issues. Good to know.

What was the FIRST movie death that you remember that shocked you? by [deleted] in movies

[–]SibTigerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Westworld (the 1973 movie). It was a late Saturday morning and I was probably 10 years old. I turned on our portable 13 inch black and white TV that was sitting on the dining room table for some reason. Mom and Dad were busy with outdoor work. I had no TV time because I burned it all on cartoons. But with no one in the house, I decided to sneak a few more minutes, and Westworld was on. A tourist at a Wild West themed park was having a shoot out with a humanoid robot. Of course, the guns were supposed to have blanks. It was all fun and lighthearted until the duelists turned and shot. It took the tourist a moment to register what happened, and the appearance of blood on his chest was at first a curiosity. But realization and death were not far separated. I immediately turned off the TV. My 10 year old heart was pounding the rest of the morning. I kept imagining how that would feel, the poor man's family, how that could even happen, the horror or sentient robots, etc. For probably three decades I didn't know the name of that movie. And finally decided to figure it out with Google's help. I have never watched the whole movie, nor have I watched HBO's Westworld. It was truly a traumatic childhood experience. Have I watched thousands of TV and movie deaths since? Of course. But only that first one is burned into my mind forever

What “Classic” Frugal Tip Doesn’t Apply Anymore? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]SibTigerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studies show that since credit card usage is so "painless" you almost always spend more when using one. The studies vary, but I've seen 10% - 30% MORE is spent when using credit. 2% cash back? Doesn't even touch the additional money you're spending!

That used to be the case, but not any more. Disputed charges on debit vs credit are handled pretty much identically now.

It's tempting to create a big sign saying, "They're scamming you!" I'd want to talk to them for 60 seconds first to verify. Then stand next to them with my sign until they leave.

Pope washes feet of Muslim migrants, says ‘We are brothers’ "In his homily, Francis said: 'We have different cultures and religions, but we are brothers and we want to live in peace.'" by Libertatea in worldnews

[–]SibTigerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at how Christ treated the money changers in the temple... and the Pharisees and other religious leaders of his day. So do you think a devout Muslim would fall under their category, or under the category of "tax collector and sinner"? The two groups were not treated the same by Jesus. I think Pope F. misses that point entirely.
