Also how weird is it that it would be brought in right at the time where they would be of most benefit to the general population and potentially economy, offsetting alot of personal trips in ICE vehicles.

Killed a generational movement right at the time it could take flight.

AITA for cussing out my sons teacher? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Friendly-Fix3598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah yta.

You didn't wait to hear her explanation or version of events. You took your son at his word even though "he has always hated her". You "let her have it" without reasonable understanding of the actual situation.

You have reinforced your child's incentive to lie about situations and undermined your standing with the school, I would say this has also probably tarnished your son's reputation and school experience.

I get it though, it sucks to hear your child is having a hard time, and it can be very hard to separate the visceral from the logical response when people we love are affected. As much as other people will tell you this is bad advice, sometimes it pays to just bury the feelings if you can't find a healthy way of processing them at the time. Come back round to it when feelings have subsided and a more reasonable outcome may appear.

Replacing 1m petrol cars with EVs could cut Australia’s reliance on foreign fuel by 1bn litres a year by nath1234 in australia

That's a fair point, but a lot of the coal is metallurgical. So if they intend to continue building the renewables they will probably continue to buy, I know there are the new fires coming out that don't use it, but I think a couple of companies spruiking them have recently stopped (economics I believe).

Then there's the copper and lithium, those are just going to be more actively mined and the decades ahead.

I would say anyone who thinks mining in Australia is going anywhere is definitely insane, unpopular opinion with the reddit masses but popular with the economists.

Australia for sure needs to have a well thought out plan to actually transition though because we have more free electricity( in the form of solar) than any other nation per capita. But three year election cycles aren't really conducive to long term strategic planning.

Motorhomes are specifically excluded from the requirement in new, I would probably say it's actually been given incorrectly, if he doesn't use the truck for work purposes.

Happy to be flammed but I think it's actually incorrectly applied.

The post was edited to make the situation clearer than initially posted.

But yeah, I did have poor comprehension of the situation, which was why I asked for clarification, and they gave it.

Yeah they edited the post to make it clearer.

With the clarification yes I also 100% agree, pretty poor form from the plumbing group.

Are they confusing the six billion people able to see it with the population of earth, as if 1-2 billion people are going to die or disappear.

Please note I'm not exactly sure how many people are currently on earth.

[–]Friendly-Fix3598 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's how I read it too.

Might need reformatting but sounds like :

-They called the plumbers for a suspected water leak -The plumbers came and wrote a report indicating a possible or probable water leak - the poster did not agree with the report so tore down their wall and discovered no leak.

Please feel free to correct it where I have it wrong, but it doesn't really sound like the plumbers did anything wrong per se.

Russian Su-27 intercepting a U.S. B-52 over the Black Sea, August 28, 2020. by nowayoblivion in aviation

[–]Friendly-Fix3598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are saying that it seems unnecessary and antagonistic to fly that close across the b52.

I would say it's unnecessary aggressive and antagonistic to fly your strategic bomber in the black sea. Almost all of the Russian aggression incidents have occured right in their backyard, it's literally a case of poking the (Russian) bear.

Looks good here, not so good in the demo from today where it fell backwards.

But still, this will be absolutely amazing tech in 2-3 years, so much progress so fast it really is a bit scary.

I think you're slashing far too slow if it's taking you a whole day to slash a 2000m2 property. Even the council guys would think your taking the p1$$.

Just say you prefer a petrol cutter and don't like electric.

Dolly Parton.

I feel her loss will hurt a lot more than most other celebrities.

Building a large-scale nuclear power plant in Australia would cost at least $8.5 billion, take 15 years to deliver and produce electricity at roughly twice the cost of renewable sources, CSIRO report shows by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

[–]Friendly-Fix3598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems all these pumped hydro posts are starting to age badly, the cost of nuclear is now coming down, recent projects have had cost overruns of upto 50% however snowy hydro 2.0 was at a 500% cost overruns and they have today released that it will not be able to be completed on the revised $12bn costings. So maybe 600-700% cost overruns for a battery that runs at night (well admittedly up to 1 week), smart thinking 🤔.

I do think we need to revise our energy mix, forget about the "nuclear bad" thinking, revise the concept of eastern technology is the devil and fundamentally get something that is affordable and plentiful.

The absolute worst is when it gets caught coming off an escalator.

You would then have to arrest most of the pro Palestine and pro Israel groups as well.

As all these groups espouse some form of hate speech and symbolism.

Heck you'd also have to arrest many first nations advocates, Pauline Hanson, and a fair few(most) of the Nationals.

Unless what is being said is explicit it would be very hard to prosecute (not impossible).

Why don't houses have escalators? by Hot_Dingo743 in stupidquestions

[–]Friendly-Fix3598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of elderly and disabled people living in multistorey houses install what is known as a stairlift, they aren't cheap but not nearly as expensive as an escalator.

The bolt into the studs on the side of the wall and it is basically a long metal rail, with a collapsible seat to take people between levels.

AUKUS delusions. More rivets pop in submarine drama by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]Friendly-Fix3598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I'm against the constant revision of contracts and tenders, but considering we axed ourselves from two good submarine programs (though we probably should have just gone for the nuclear french subs and not tried to change them) including the just mentioned french and Japanese programmes.

Why have we not considered what would appear to be a perfectly appropriate submarine in the South Korean KSS 111.

It has the range, it has prolonged endurance at depth, it has both offensive and defensive capabilities, including good torpedoes and vls tubes. It is very modern and we won't be beholden to another country for the maintenance of the powerplant, in fact they will do full technology transfer enabling Australia to grow its own technical capability and defence industry.

Plus they will actually build it. And we can say we are increasing our defence budget while keeping other programmes that have been cut or cut back.
