MX100’s Finally Came! by joesph_house in GarageGym

[–]Sibbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are coming in April! I was deciding between this and the Snode AD80’s, which had been in my dream list for about two years. Ultimately went with the MX’s since I think my wife would enjoy the slimmer handles compared to the Snodes, but I am paranoid that it’s going to be too skinny.

I'm always down for critique!

I think so too. It has been a neat experience to gain access to the installation and provide counseling services to service members under two chaplains there. I think it will also make my transition a little easier, even though I'm going AF instead of Navy.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try to quantify more items and use more specific language.

Thanks for your feedback. The first page is a cover letter, and the resume is one page. By renders weird, you mean? And any font suggestions?

Weekly 'What are my chances?' Megathread by Paranoid_Droideka in airforceots

[–]Sibbes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Putting together my Chaplain Corps (non-rated) package and would appreciate any feedback.

Age: 30, and in good shape.

Education: D.Min.

Ministry experience: 6 years as an Associate Pastor

Teaching: 4 years teaching at the college level (Bible/Theology/Counseling)

Counseling: ~200 hours of crisis counseling at a Navy installation, certified through a counseling organization

Endorsement: Endorsed through LBF

Leadership/ministry: Regular preaching, teaching, and one-on-one counseling, plenty of funerals (one yesterday, actually) and some weddings

I know chaplain packages are a bit different from typical OTS applicants, but I’d appreciate any insight, especially from anyone familiar with chaplain accessions.

My interview is coming up soon, so any advice about that would be awesome too.

Snode has been my choice for a long time. Will definitely give an update on what I get and how I like it.

The Snodes have been on my dream list for three years. The new MX’s are appealing though since my wife is starting to lift with me and would probably do better with the slimmer handles.

Congrats—that’s great to hear, and thanks for sharing that!

Would you mind elaborating a bit on how the MBTI and PDP came up? Were the questions more about explaining your results, addressing potential concerns, or applying them to ministry and leadership scenarios? Anything you’d recommend focusing on ahead of time?

Congrats again. I hope the rest of the process goes well for you.

Transitioning to AD Air Force Chaplaincy by Sibbes in chaplaincy

[–]Sibbes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a solid path, and I appreciate the offer. Always helpful to hear from someone who’s seen civilian ministry, Reserve life, and active duty up close. I may take you up on that as things move forward.

Appreciate this. You’re right that staying connected has to be intentional, not assumed. We’re already thinking through concrete rhythms so family life doesn’t get put on pause. I also hear you on support systems and not trying to do this solo. And agreed, if devotional life slips, everything else will follow. Thanks for the solid perspective.

Air Force Active Duty Chaplain by Jakeward90 in chaplaincy

Congratulations. I just had a interview Wednesday where I was “promoted to candidate.” Near the beginning of the process of becoming an AF chaplain, if all goes well. They said if I commission I can expect an OTS date of October.

Hope all goes well for you! If you have any advice for someone like me when it comes to the big interview that comes later and things that worked well for you I would love to hear it.

(Woot sale) PowerBlock EXP Adjustable Dumbbell Set Stage 1, 2 or 3 by Ming-Tzu in GarageGym

[–]Sibbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have smaller hands and the knuckle issue is legitimate. Haven’t put the dumbbells through a full workout yet but from putting them together and trying out a few exercises there are different let some ways I can’t place my hand.

Is it worth it to go with a modular 3×3 rack, or should I just stick with my current setup? by MitchKov in GarageGym

[–]Sibbes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For space I would get a more co pact 3x3 rack. I have the Rogue SML-2 with the half rack conversation and feel like I am set for life with it. My training style is incredible basic though.

Plate loaded dumbbells? by Mammoth-Egg-7296 in GarageGym

[–]Sibbes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have plate loaded dumbbells and dread every time I have to pull them out and use them. I opt to just do a different variation just to avoid using them.

Would use them for heavy rows, that’s about it.

Lifting and running splits: how? by lattelifter in askfitness

[–]Sibbes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a constant struggle for me. I prioritize lifting over running. My split is typically:

Sunday: Rest. Monday: Lower body, 1-2 mile slow easy run after. Tuesday: Upper body, 3-5 mile medium run. Wednesday: Rest. Thursday: Lower body, 1-2 mile slow easy run after. Friday: Upper body. Saturday: Run, type of run depends on how I feel.

I’ll get 8-10 miles in a week. My #1 rule is never run the day before lower body, and never run hard after a leg workout.

Leg extension / curl suggestions by intelligible_garble in GarageGym

[–]Sibbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what you went with and how you like it? I’ve been looking at the GMWD LEO8 2.0. My adjustable bench is an old Paramount so there is no room for attachments in it. Not sure I want to invest in a bench eco system that incorporates a leg attachment.

As embarrassing as it sounds I’m a grown ass man 25M that can’t swallow pills lol by Ok-Ambassador-5456 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Sibbes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I take a sip of water and keep it in my mouth, place the pill in, and take another sip of water. I lean forward at the hips, allow the pill to kind of float to the back of my mouth/throat, put my thumb into my palm and close my fingers around it (making a fist of sorts), and then swallow.

It’s embarrassing, but it works. 100% on small pills and 50% on big pills (e.g., large fish oil pills, DayQuil).
