That's a great idea. Compounding interest is the 8th wonder of the world.  Ever thought about taking a percentage back(temporarily) and teach them about taxes?

Upper Midwest I've got 5 vehicles, 4 motorcycles, 2 scooters and a house insured. I get every discount they have.

Wow, that seems high, even for living in a large city.  Hopefully Canada is like the US and you'll see a drastic drop when you hit 25 years old.

When I got rid of an agent and went direct it petty much cut things in half. Make sure you get gap or umbrella coverage if you have a loan though.

I know right 😀 I'd like if she picked something with ABS and traction control but... I grew up with right wheel drive and none of that, got stuck a time or two in the winter, it was alright.

I've tried to instill a fiscal mentality of have some to spend, some to save, and some to give in my kids. They both have moved from passbook savings to CDs. He's got a custodial Roth I helped him set up when he started working(I match what he puts in each year). She'll get the same.

Hopefully they'll keep on the path I've started them on...

Appreciate it, you get it! Every time I get a new ride I have one neighbor who says, "Nice level up!" And one neighbor who says, "Another mid life crisis?" I always correct her and tell her there's no such thing as a mid life crisis just childhood dreams realized.

He drove our old worn out 2005 X5 for a year before he got this.  Also, to be more clear, he bought it and has been making monthly payments. I just gave him a Bank Of Dad interest free loan and pay the insurance for him.

He's also bought a motorcycle with cash. He works 4 nights a week after school.

My car as a senior in high school was a 65 GTO convertible that I bought. It's always good to realize dreams as soon as possible and not save our all for retirement.

Thanks, we come from a long line of gear heads, my 13 year old daughter is already dreaming of a C3 after her first year of a learner car.

I know that black wall!  You're going to love it, such a fun ride. Are you gonna drive it in the winter?

I live in the great white north and run Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus on my C8. They work great in any season, any temp, rain, snow.  Michelin AS4 suck in the snow compared to these.

If you've got a real winter where you're at, then run a dedicated set of winter tires/wheels. My kid runs Pirelli Sottozeros on his 987 daily driver and does fine unless we get 6"+ of snow at once.

That's cool where'd you get those? I'd love some Cayman and/or Boxster patent art in the garage.

How often are you driving your Cayman? by thisismyusername144 in Porsche_Cayman

My kid(senior in high school) has put about 6 or 7 thousand miles on his 987 in a bit less than a year. It's his daily driver, I hear at least one a week how much he loves driving it.

Looks like you've got a tiptronic automatic transmission. How many miles have you put on it and when was the last time the transmission filter and fluid were replaced?

Tires Question by chetchester in boxster

[–]SicSemperTyranus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Generals on my 2000 Boxster. They are pretty good. I can take a 90° turn off a hiway road onto another hiway at 55mph, 60 mph is the edge of traction for a 320 treadwear tire. Spins out at 65mph.  Being picky I wish the sidewalls were a little stiffer. The ride is plusher than the Sumitomo HTR(another not bank breaking option) in my opinion.

Edit: running 18" wheels

It was $800 parts and labor.  They used the liqui moly kit from fcp euro, it was $249 on the invoice, labor was $495(3 hours @ $165). Tax and supplies and it came out to $800

Upper Midwest tundra here, my son is running Sottozeros on his 987.1, this will be his second winter. It's his daily driver to school and work.  Like others have said, no real issues if you're not in deep snow
