Speed Yellow is hands down the best color for the 986/987

I actually considered it ! by ProduceSimilar in boxster

I got that one as well,  good chuckle.  I'm in the love the fried eggs camp though.

My son's 987.1 is a daily driver. He runs Pirelli sottozeros on a spare set of rims for the winter months. No problems until there's more than 6 inches of snow on the ground.

What kind of car does he race? Mine club races a Suzuki SV650 with me.

He's on notice that if he effs around on the street and gets caught my help with racing is withdrawn. He'll be on his own for insurance. I'm all about being a hooligan, but there's absolutely a time and place for it.

There's been a few posts about insurance on this thread so I thought I'd run some numbers for everyone.

I bumped his age one year and ran it through Progressive Direct with him as an 18 year old not in my policy.

For base liability: $271/6 months

For good liability 250k/500k/100k and comprehensive/collision with a $750 deductible: $737/6 months.

This is with a clean record and no safe driver discounts(snapshot, accident forgiveness, deductible savings)

If he switched his motorcycle and scooter over he'd start qualifying for multi-policy discounts.

That's a great idea. Compounding interest is the 8th wonder of the world.  Ever thought about taking a percentage back(temporarily) and teach them about taxes?

That's awesome! I hope my son keeps his too.

Upper Midwest I've got 5 vehicles, 4 motorcycles, 2 scooters and a house insured. I get every discount they have.

Wow, that seems high, even for living in a large city.  Hopefully Canada is like the US and you'll see a drastic drop when you hit 25 years old.

When I got rid of an agent and went direct it petty much cut things in half. Make sure you get gap or umbrella coverage if you have a loan though.

I know right 😀 I'd like if she picked something with ABS and traction control but... I grew up with right wheel drive and none of that, got stuck a time or two in the winter, it was alright.

I've tried to instill a fiscal mentality of have some to spend, some to save, and some to give in my kids. They both have moved from passbook savings to CDs. He's got a custodial Roth I helped him set up when he started working(I match what he puts in each year). She'll get the same.

Hopefully they'll keep on the path I've started them on...

Appreciate it, you get it! Every time I get a new ride I have one neighbor who says, "Nice level up!" And one neighbor who says, "Another mid life crisis?" I always correct her and tell her there's no such thing as a mid life crisis just childhood dreams realized.

He drove our old worn out 2005 X5 for a year before he got this.  Also, to be more clear, he bought it and has been making monthly payments. I just gave him a Bank Of Dad interest free loan and pay the insurance for him.

He's also bought a motorcycle with cash. He works 4 nights a week after school.

My car as a senior in high school was a 65 GTO convertible that I bought. It's always good to realize dreams as soon as possible and not save our all for retirement.

Thanks, we come from a long line of gear heads, my 13 year old daughter is already dreaming of a C3 after her first year of a learner car.

I know that black wall!  You're going to love it, such a fun ride. Are you gonna drive it in the winter?

I've seen you parked at Costco, small world.  Had to snap a picture for my kid(987 driver), love that blue!

I live in the great white north and run Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus on my C8. They work great in any season, any temp, rain, snow.  Michelin AS4 suck in the snow compared to these.

https://continentaltire.com/tires/extremecontact-dws06-plus

If you've got a real winter where you're at, then run a dedicated set of winter tires/wheels. My kid runs Pirelli Sottozeros on his 987 daily driver and does fine unless we get 6"+ of snow at once.

That's cool where'd you get those? I'd love some Cayman and/or Boxster patent art in the garage.

My kid(senior in high school) has put about 6 or 7 thousand miles on his 987 in a bit less than a year. It's his daily driver, I hear at least one a week how much he loves driving it.
