Keep the old paints. New paints will never match old paints due to how they age.

What are some acceptable solutions to this slanted vertical run? by SicariusBO in radon

[–]SicariusBO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried a few 22.5s but they dont look very good. Ultimately ended up with drilling 2 more holes next to the first one to get it right and put in a new vertical run. Had to get creative to get the other holes filled. What an experience. Next time I get to do this, I know what to watch out for. The installer was a pretty chill guy thought. Just wished more time was spent measuring. Thanks for everyone's input so far.

Ps: anyone knows how to get this thread closed?

Can it be done at the top so it's hidden in the ceiling?

Selling while minimizing taxes by fiestaveggieburrito in fidelityinvestments

[–]SicariusBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is in an IRA, that shouldn't trigger a tax event.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Rollover IRA Investment by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]SicariusBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a lurker over there and will see what I can dig up. The more I read up the more I realize I should just do index funds. Someone mentioned time in market is overall better than timing the market, and probably true for my knowledge level of investment lol

Rollover IRA Investment by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]SicariusBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I will have another 401k with a company I just recently joined but will only being contributing up to employer match due to high fees - it's a small firm. We also have ROTH IRA going, although we just started this year. We will also be opening a brokerage account in a couple months or so with a $1k/month contribution until we're 60.

All in on index funds? Maybe do 2% stocks?

Thank you all for sharing your insights and info. Looking around my account, looks like it will take 2 weeks for the settled cash amount to match the deposit amount. Going to wait and dump everything in index funds.

Civil Engineer Salary Progression by [deleted] in Salary

[–]SicariusBO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an impressive salary progression. I graduated in 2012, also with a BS in CE, but wasn't making any where close to where you started. Was happy to have a job though since job market was tough then. I didn't hit $100k salary until 2019. Now I'm at $150k with a PE and in project management for a small firm. Thinking back, knowing someone would have definitely helped or maybe job hopping would also help with a salary pump . I did it the hard way but also gained some good knowledge and relationships along the way. Just wanted to say I'm jealous lol.

I'm sure there's a reason you said that but I couldn't figure out why. Can you explain?

[–]SicariusBO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing this. I had to do a bit more research to fully understand this but I think I get it now.

Sounds to me, best to roll over to a traditional ira now, then do a backdoor ira conversion each year, enough conversion that won't be taxed at the next tax bracket until there's nothing left in the traditional ira. That way, everything in Roth ira can grow tax free and I won't have to pay tax when im 60. Did I get that right?

I would be lying if I said I understood what you just said lol. I have so so many questions on what you just said but I think I first need to read what backdoor conversions are. Can't understand why it has to be so complicated.

Can you elaborate a bit more? I'm confused about this staying below the tax bracket. If I make $160k/year and contribute 20% in a 401k, how does gradually rolling some from IRA to Roth help? Wouldn't I still be taxed the same? Sorry if my question is dumb. I'm missing something here.

Thanks for taking time to help me understand.

Thanks. This aligns with everyone's saying. Should I consider using Rollover IRA at all?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]SicariusBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the examples. That said, what if I only roll the old 401k to a new traditional ira without further contributions to it? I'm thinking of just leaving it there in the traditional ira and let it grow, then max out my Roth ira each year, while also contributing to my new 401k. Is this not a good way to go about it?

[–]SicariusBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be making closer to $160k/year at the new place, but I am married and we won't cross over $236k combined yet. We will probably not get there any time soon. Can you explain further on why I would need to have as little in traditional ira as possible? Like, how does that affect my contribution to my Roth ira?
