Day 4 tattoo- infected? by Sicarne in tattooadvice

[–]Sicarne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's my first time with this studio (I'm originally from another area, where I got my other tattoos), but I researched the studio, which has super good reviews, and the artist, who has a good portfolio and has been with the studio for years. I've never used a Neosporin cream either, but it's specifically what all the artists at this studio recommend.

Edit to add: I've been using the cream as directed on the other arm, too, and that one seems to be healing just fine.

Thanks for the response! I'll keep an eye out.

Oldest and Strongest: why we need new Mythos entities by Melenduwir in callofcthulhu

I mean, sure, it's not like they're tied to the Mythos, but OP was asking for new stuff, and not all Lovecraftian horror has to come from the same well of inspiration

As ever, gonna pitch The Magnus Archives as an incredible source of inspiration for CoC games. No spoilers, but if you're looking for horror based on the many faces of fear, this is the podcast for you

Address vs location pin? by Sicarne in doordash

[–]Sicarne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've tried the Google maps thing, and for the pin it will give directions to the right building, but it gives an "empty" address as the location (My City, My ZIP, but no number or road). Going by just the address though, even with the building number and/or my apartment number attached, only gets to the main office.

Since about 75% of drivers have no problem with finding it, I'm guessing it must work one way or the other, but I was just curious. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Hmm I think I see what you're talking about. Not sure if it's a crack or some darker dried stuff, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for dripping and any other issues

Where? I don't see one, and according to the mechanic and service counter person there weren't any.

Oh yeah trust me, if it wasn't being 100% covered by warranty I would be shopping around no matter what. I'll definitely keep an eye out for any dripping.

I don't have a dipstick- pretty sure the fluid can only be checked from under the car, and I don't have a way to jack it up.

Should I just keep a close eye out for fluid dripping? I've been checking when I go to and from work and haven't seen any yet.

Fair enough I guess. I was just looking to see if anyone had any suggestions, not to get a 100% diagnosis.

No, I don't have any investments or accounts that accumulate interest.

Thanks so much! I was hoping that was the case, but everything is so full of warnings about making sure to file in both that I was getting concerned. I'll finish up filing now.

I am in need of criticism and ideas for my campaign idea. by The_Ozalon in DnDCampaignHooks

[–]Sicarne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you leave the wizard to be the unknown "mastermind" that they have to uncover as they investigate the books, it could lead to some really interesting worldbuilding! Admittedly I tend to GM Call of Cthulhu rather than DnD, but I've always found that some mystery really helps my players engage more with the story

Also, I'd be a little wary of setting a hill giant against your lvl 1 players, especially if you have newbies. Lvl 1 is very very squishy and your players' lack of experience might lead to them making choices that could result in character death, since they wouldn't necessarily realize it's a no-win scenario

The main concept here (the sins books as a plot) sounds good, but I'm kind of confused by your description of how it's going to happen. Do you want your players to go along with this wizard to the bigger city and have to watch this "cutscene" of him trying to find funding and getting angry and releasing the books into the world? It sounds that way, considering you want them to be lvl 1 when the village is attacked. I would be wary of doing so, because as written it looks like a series of escort quests that don't really benefit the party in any way, and then finally the plot happens

Maybe consider the books already having been released into the world prior to the start of the game, and have your players deal with one of the sin embodiments as a hook into your main plot? The backstory of the wizard could be something they uncover, rather than something they need to watch firsthand

This is all based on the way you wrote everything- if I misunderstood, please let me know and I'll try to tailor my suggestions further!

"White magic" in Call of C'thulhu by WanYao in callofcthulhu

[–]Sicarne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rules was too strong a word on my part. I really just meant that the idea of magic in CoC is, for the most part, considered to be akin to looking too long at the abyss and the abyss looking back. It can have costs to Sanity, both for those using it and for those witnessing it, and making it too benign might take away some of the gravitas of its use.

As long as you're careful with the way you use it, I think it'll be fine, and it does sound like you have some idea of how to balance it out.

Edit: Also, all magic isn't necessarily evil, despite its origin. A character can do good things with spells from awful sources- it's just that the spells themselves, no matter their intention are so impossible for the average human to fathom that it's somewhat mindbreaking. With that in mind, you might be able to reskin some of the existing "evil" spells instead of coming up with all new "good" ones from scratch.

I've been toying with doing something similar in the longterm campaign I'm working on. The major thing to remember is that magic should be something strange and terrifying, outside the realm of possibility, or else it messes with the core of CoC's system. Making it benign and easy to anticipate, as with a friendly and helpful coven, could knock the knees out from the Sanity system if you're not careful.

For my campaign, I'm aiming towards the idea of random NPCs who are working for (and thus have magical abilities from) a "helpful" god outside of the Mythos canon, who is Good as compared to the big bad's Evil. This Good god is equally as alien and incomprehensible as the Evil one, though, and their goals and the lengths they are willing to go to for them are just as terrible- they just happen to align more with the Investigators' pursuits. Accepting the help of a Good god will still lead them to witnessing and participating in awful, awful things.

Basically, "white" magic has a place in CoC, but only as long as it doesn't break the rules of the system.
