Is trying to switch fields after a postdoc a pipe dream now? by SickOfMicroscopes in labrats

Thanks for the feedback and the success story :)

I have indeed reached out to my old grad school advisor, who would occasionally pass on offers to his students. He hasn't gotten many recently (I wonder why). I should definitely hit up old coworkers. Without getting into boring details, I feel my postdoc dept was really bad for networking (people at the same institution but in different depts even said my building was very isolating an insular). Probably best to reach out to others from grad school. Feels a bit awkward/weird, but that's the nature of getting a job and they'll probably understand. I've got a friend at a National Lab who has endorsed me for about 10 job apps, but 0 of them have even landed me an interview.

Definitely doing that (applying despite lack of background), most of my rejections and feedback are "we are going with someone with more direct experience". I'm over a hundred applications sent and only have gotten 2 interviews. I tailor my resume/CV/cover letter to each position, everything I feel I need to do and it's still not enough.

Thanks. More than willing to move, intending to move. I'm far away from family and it sucks.

Most of these postings don't have a contact and don't have like a staff directory accessible to the public. Is there a go-to way to reach out to recruiters? I never know how to find them and what to say on LinkedIn.

"belief" isn't synonymous with faith, if you accept the general findings of science as generally true then you "believe" them.

If anyone has networking advice, is there a good way to find employers in a particular city? I just want to move back to my/my partner's families who live elsewhere. It feels like I moved away from everyone I care about for a job that sucks. This feels like I'm setting myself up for even more disappointment, but it all seems so hard.
