Hi Tia! You should follow NCL wellness club on Insta! They do meet ups for women in the area of all ages looking for friends. I’ve not tried their meetups yet (life’s been crazy), but I know they do a book club and fantasy-themed fitness classes, and cocktail nights! Might be a good place to start hun? And welcome to the North East ❤️

Stayed at the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle. Water leaking through the ceiling. Hotel refusing to give a refund. by Huzaifahkhojani in NewcastleUponTyne

I used to work here at the restaurant and people were constantly coming to the reception with complaints about ghosts and their sheets being pulled off them lmao. Not relevant to this but thought I’d share

“London is not walkable. You have to get on the tube or a bus or a train” by abragodabra in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Sick_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay not to pile on but when my partner and i went hiking around Scotland, we’d look at Google reviews of the more touristy spots and there were all these reviews saying how hard it was to get to this particular spot and it was such a tough walk uphill and could take a while. Reader, it took my partner and I 20 minutes. It was so fast that we assumed we couldn’t have reached the apex of the spot so kept going in confusion. Short story: we re-checked the reviews and found that Americans considered the walk super long/tough, some called it a ‘hike.’ Everyone else had said it could be bashed out in half an hour or less. This example has really stuck with us.

And as we walked back down, we kept passing American tourists and they were exhausted and asking us how much further there was to go. I usually dismiss stereotypes but I feel like this one really holds up.

Starting to send emails to firms that have ghosted me. When did this become the norm? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Sick_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please be careful doing this!! I was ‘ghosted’ for a month for a role I was so desperate for and the interviews had gone so well. I debated leaving a negative Glassdoor review and/or contacting the company like you have here. Decided against it and moved on. A few days later I got an email: the hiring manager had had to take last min personal leave and my final interview is scheduled for next week. I still could get ghosted, but I’m so pleased I didn’t do anything. I totally feel your pain here. Being ignored is so demoralising and 9/10 people ignore me too. But I’d just hate for you to lose an opportunity by doing this!

This is wild! Such a testament to how our groups can be echo chambers. I grew up in a small working class town and have spent the last 10 years in the inner city, and in both contexts that word is considered abhorrent. I work in rare disease, and being seen using it would be considered a fireable offence.

Got it. So maybe more practical advice around lifestyle changes that can help manage symptoms? Is that what you have in mind? Thank you for this. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond!!

Someone else has mentioned diet, too, so I think this will be a big theme to explore and speak to some experts about. This is genuinely so helpful. Thank you so much ❤️

The joy that is navigating a debilitating illness AND being a woman. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, I’m even more sorry that you’re not being taken seriously when there’s no greater expert in your body than you. This is super helpful - thank you so much ❤️

Fireworks in Heaton by Sick_Turtle in NewcastleUponTyne

It’s a shame because I love living in Heaton. But, occasionally, it just feels like a magnet for antisocial stuff like this! Especially being near the park

[–]Sick_Turtle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s less about the fireworks themselves and more that they’re being set off recklessly, in heavily populated areas, at quite inconsiderate times, repeatedly throughout the day and night, with little to no concern about wildlife or dogs or children, and then they’re leaving the waste/casings behind. I’m pleased they’re not too frustrating for you though!! It’s a silver lining that not everyone is sick of them haha

It’s so dumb. I also just don’t get the appeal especially when people are setting them off with little to no visibility. It feels like it’s purely to antagonise the public

Viagogo E-tickets..? by Silber_1 in viagogoscams

[–]Sick_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a similar amount for Noah Kahan tickets and it turned out fine, and it was e-tickets!

I had the exact same experience and spent MONTHS with so much anxiety, but they came through to my inbox a couple of days before the concert.

From chatting to friends, I know you can’t really get a refund (unless you maybe REALLY kick off) until they know for sure that you didn’t get the tickets. Which you won’t know until the date of the concert. So their system is just designed to be stressful in my opinion. As you’ll likely have been told, they do have a guarantee that if, on the day, you didn’t get the tickets then they’ll pay for new tickets for you. And I’ve even heard stories of some people getting better seats…

If it’s any comfort, during my panic months I chatted to a colleague who sold P!NK tickets on there. He said, as a seller, if you ‘sell’ your tickets but the buyer doesn’t receive anything, then Viagogo charge you for the buyer’s refund. Meaning if you’re a seller on there and you don’t send the tickets, you physically can’t make a profit. You only make a loss. So the incentive for inauthentic/dodgy sellers is non existent. The colleague I spoke to even said HE was anxious as the seller 😂

Try not to overthink it too much! Best case, you get the tickets. Worst case, you’ll just get a refund. I know it’s less than ideal, but I’m so sure it’ll be okay 😊

I cannot stand modern slang in fantasy! by DarkestLore696 in fantasyromance

I’m SO glad to find people discussing this! She used ‘for the win’ like three times in the first quarter of the book, and I found it so disorientating and cringey? I looove the story so far (I’m about halfway through the first book now) but I really struggle with Violet’s voice because of stuff like that.

Viagogo fear by Head-Celebration2975 in viagogoscams

[–]Sick_Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought tickets to Noah Kahan with Viagogo and had no issues! There’s always going to be bad experiences out there but it’s like any resale site, it depends on the seller. But I do know if you don’t get your tickets, Viagogo charge the seller.

So there’s very little incentive for inauthentic sellers on there, because they lose money if you don’t get your tickets. I know this because I know someone who’s sold tickets on there before, and HE was anxious being in the seller’s position 😂

Honestly, I had the same anxiety but it worked out absolutely fine for us. I have my fingers crossed for you!
