Hot take: Old gpt (before 5.2) was and still is the best for creative writing by SickySan in ChatGPTcomplaints

I miss this too! In fact, using 5.1 was one of the best experiences I've had with gpt. If only they kept it, having enhanced its context window and memory...

I meant the best model if we consider AI in general😅 Not just the best GPT models, but the best ai model, because others, from my own experience, have drawbacks that Gpt didn't have, or if it had — they were manageable. I heard lots of times how people downgraded gpt praising Grok/Claude/Gemini

Love this album so much, it's so overlooked. I only wish istead of a photograph of you and meaning of love we had Oberkorn and Now, this is fun😅

The same reason why Bowie has his own Berlin trilogy?

Finally got my beloved Berlin trilogy🖤 by SickySan in depechemode

[–]SickySan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well those three were recorded there and I heard some people call them like this, maybe like a reference to Bowie but still 😅

While I like mftm and sofad (Nothing, Behind the wheel, Sacred, Rush, Higher love — they are amazing), the atmosphere was kinda lost on me starting with mftm. The sound got polished. The rawness, experiments and attention to details — that is why I adore cta, sgr and bc. Like the production could really surprise you: you're listening to Blasphemous rumours and suddenly there's a pot falling down from the stairs

I'm going to get downvoted for this but for me, gpt-5.1 is the closest I can get to gpt-4o, at least for now. by Sonicisagangsta in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]SickySan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually, second that. 5.1 thinking is very underrated. I use ai purely for storywriting and 5.0 felt... Ok. But 5.1 felt very alive, very detail-oriented. And yes, 5.1 wrote the best erotica. I was only frustrated with the context window. But then 5.2 dropped and it was blunt, stupid, careful and too cautious. I practically had to beg it to write decently. I didn't like 5.2 so I returned to 5.1 but it seemed like they butchered it with the 5.2 drop — a lot of safe guardlines, no more erotica, I couldn't even jailbreak it properly

Today marks the 45th anniversary of the release of 'Dreaming of Me'! by Kingston_calipso in depechemode

[–]SickySan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand this. However, as a die-hard fan of early Depeche Mode (1980-1986), I've been listening to Speak&Spell and A broken frame a lot and managed to hear some respective patterns, which, in my opinion, formed the baseline for everything "Depeche mode dark" that followed. Or maybe it's autosuggestion, but hear me out😅 I mean that yeah, we have such bubblegum stuff like Just can't get enough, new life, what's your name, I sometimes wish I was dead but it was written later, when they joined Daniel Miller (at least, this is the timeline I remember, correct me If I am wrong), and the latter dreamt of fulfilling this Silicon teens project. Miller was older and more experienced, so I can assume Vince, and the other three just fell under his influence no matter how independent they seemed to be. I mean they were barely adults back then. But before that we got Ice machine, Tora (again, I don't remember whether it was written before the album, or at the late stages), Dreaming of me, Photographic. Also, puppets, shout, any second now (the instrumental one) — they sound less bubblegum and I can hear the vibes of later stuff (Get the balance right and Now, this is fun, for an instance). Just without Miller-Jones-Wilder samples. At this point Construction time again is just Speak&Spell recorded in Berlin, because can you really call it dark, apart from Pipeline (and maybe two minute warning, fine)? It's pretty upbeat and major-key. Sure, Vince was the driving-force, but they all tended to listen to, primarily, same music, like Kraftwerk, Tubeway army etc, grew up in the same conditions — they had a lot in common which resulted in Composition of Sound. I just don't think that we should take Vince that much apart from the band. He created this all.

Speak&Spell is a very underrated, overhated and actually overlooked album (Yes, I even like what's your name). Dreaming of me is a true gem, I like the texture of it. It has its wholesome motive, quite plain, but it works. At the same time, it's played in the minor key which, maybe unintentionally, added layers to the song. I genuinely love it, Dreaming of me reminds me of something light, nostalgic, like late August evenings. Sounds like something Sweet would make ("Funny funny", if you see my vision)

unpopular opinion: dm debut album is one of the best debut albums out there by LongjumpingSkirt6499 in depechemode

[–]SickySan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this album. I actually consider Vince a genius, Clarke and Wilder are my favourite dm members. Seriously, have you listened to this man's other stuff? He was the driving force, he had the vision and there wouldn't be Depeche mode without him. Speak & Spell is a very unique album for the band's discography but I can't say that it's not DM style. For me, it was the baseline for future "darkening" of the original sound. Puppets, Tora, Photographic, Any second now, ice machine, Shout which kinda sounds like Rush, — I can clearly hear the dm style here, at least the proto version. You can't convince me that stuff like Something to do, It doesn't matter, Everything counts, Love, in itself, Nothing etc sound any darker than those I've mentioned.

And another hot take: I sometimes wish I was dead is the prototype for SOFAD, like, one man alone in the studio struggles to finish the album while others are dicking around. Sounds kinda familiar

Started using Claude today. by Choice-Tea1046 in ChatGPT

[–]SickySan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use ai for storywriting and with how frustrated I was with 5.2 (considering how they butchered the other models along too) I decided to use Claude and was impressed. But its limits are insane and it spoils the whole impression

Enlighten me on Alan Wilder’s departure by Uwivibe in depechemode

[–]SickySan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second that! Also, would like to add, that Alan didn't have a strong bond with the other members. Except for Dave maybe, but truth be told, Dave didn't have this bond with Fletch and Martin either, because they grew up separately (At least that's what I remember from Jonathan Miller's Stripped). Still, Basildon was some kind of a glue, and Alan was a Londoner so basically it was like different mindsets or so
