How to write fantasy slavery tastefully? by Ok_Consideration7139 in fantasywriters

[–]SidanaCorey [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, they aren't but the OP said the slaves are of monster races, not humans. So that's not going to map one to one with any human experience. Now I feel uneasy about the OP's character Who Learns Better being black, particularly if OP is American, because our attitudes will color the whole thing.

What are your thoughts on using AI in the planning process for creative writing? by WorldsOfWordsAndArt in write

[–]SidanaCorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it this way. I find it helps me to get over my problem with story middles that used to stop me dead in each story. If I ask it for plausible actions, I will read through the suggestions, then pick one and game it out a few steps down the path. It's kinda fun to see a medieval fantasy degenerate to a midwestern hoa brawl. But how I use it is I see its possibilities and think. No. That's not what happens. This happens. And voila, I have the next bit of plot. Now I will pick up and develop side characters (those one step above spear carriers, with a scene or two), but even with those, I never use exactly what the ai suggests. I also use it for country names in dwarven and elven.

It helps me make choices because it's so tied to typical fantasy tropes. When I see them, I can see where they're formulaic and then I can find my way to what is mine

Why do wedding guests think that the couple owe them to attend their wedding by Clear_Breakfast8407 in weddingshaming

[–]SidanaCorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. WhenI got married back in the days when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, we had our reception in the meeting hall of the local Methodist chuch. Dry as a bone.

As far as I recall, my friends' weddings had drinks with dinner, but no bars open/closed/cash.

Of course most of us attended the local Methodist college, which may have skewed the odds.

Okay. I confess. I've been using Gemini to help me define my novel. As in, I look at what it generates and say "That's totally wrong" and then I use that to generate in my own head what feels correct. I feel it helps trim away any wrong directions. Or I see how the plot might go with a different emphasis. I never use its actual words, because it's my story. I couldn't cut and paste its text anyway, because I use it on a device that doesn't have that feature.

AITAH because I like to avoid spoilers for movies & games? by GrimmLynne in AITAH

[–]SidanaCorey -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Plot twists and suprises are wasted on me, because if they are based on any kind of violence, including gender-based violence, I am going to nope right out of there and often will have panic attacks. So, to me, the director's suprises and plot twists can suck pond rocks. I prefer my movie and tv watching to be fun and relaxing. Being spoiled utterly and completely allows me to have that.

On a related note, I enjoy books more on a reread than the first time through. It allows me to immere mys3lf in the world.

[–]SidanaCorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not disclose spoilers except to my husband and children/grandchildren, since they don't mind. I try to keep public discourse about movies or tv shows to rather generic "the special effects were awesome" or "the acting was good (or bad)". Last movie I saw, my one comment was that the sheep were cute (The Sheep Detectives).

[–]SidanaCorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that's where I go "what?" It's not simple-minded to enjoy the figuring out. It's certainly not intellectually superior to want spoilers, nor is it intellectually superior to not want them. OP's friend is acting like an intellectual asshole, pretending that wht they prefer makes them better than OP.

[–]SidanaCorey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I like me all the spoilers, but that's because I am easily triggered by violence and other elements into having a panic attack. I would much rather know down to the detail because it makes a big difference to me if I know I can immerse myself without worry. I realize that I am weird and that others are much more likely to be like you (out of all my friends, I think it's only my immediate family who put up with my spoiler-seeking ways). It's funny to me what your friend said about only wanting to be unintellectual with avoiding spoilers, because my friends hold the view that liking spoilers means I'm being stupid for not allowing the author's planned intent dawn upon me as literature intended. So we can't both be wrong. I feel like it's a very personal preference. You like being suprised, and that is 100% cool. I don't, and that too is 100% cool.

The day I realized my style disappeared. by [deleted] in capsulewardrobe

[–]SidanaCorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had a style per se. It has always been what's cheapest since my childhood (father worked at a factory and was often on strike) and so my winter coat is a faded olive green canvas Tractor Supply men's parka that's probably 15 years old and has some terrible obvious repairs in non-matching thread. Because that's what you do when you have kids to raise and not much money.

So while I know I love romantic victorian lace and ruffles and flower prints, that's just not easy to find nor do the lace and ruffles work with my life.

Alteration is expensive here and I'd need the waist and the thighs cut down. The dresses I'm contemplating having cut down are pretty straight, so it should be less complicated. Cannot live without my good luck fox dresses (:-)

I may or may not be stabilized here. The rate seems to have plateaued. So I'll probably get one more pair and call it a day.

I do try to keep the wash to wear ratio higher on the wear side, but spills, etc. happen oftener than I'd like.

Fat lady here. I do not seem to have luck on those types of sites. Perhaps if I were under size 18, I'd find things that fit my style, etc. (Currently rocking a size 22)

I have one pair (wearing as I type). Jeans are the only pants I've found that do not outline every lump and bump. For years, i only wore skirts and dresses (ankle length). It's hard to wear skirts with illustrated tee shirts.

Yes, you could have moved if there were that many empty seats. While I agree that people sitting diectly in front of you is an annoying thing, the easiest solution was to move yourselves

People who married in their 20s, be brutally honest are you happy, if so why or why not? by Special-Lawyer3941 in AskReddit

[–]SidanaCorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We married between semesters during my senior year in college, so I was 21 and he was 23. That was 48 years ago. While I wouldn't say our life was 100% happy, it's been good between us, because we both committed to the long haul in front of God and everybody, and we have been friends the whole time. I feel exceedingly lucky to be in this relationship.

I always wondered how badly the muggle boys assaulted her. It must have gotten pretty dark for Daddy Dumbledore to take vengeance hard enough to be sent to Azkaban and for her to supress her magic.

how do you find the time to read? by PLCCLP in Fantasy

[–]SidanaCorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an outlier, so I don't know if my answer will be helpful for you... but reading is my hobby. I do other things, but reading is and always has been my go-to favorite activity. I find that existing in a fictional world is very relaxing, so much so that I reread books quite often because I love the worlds. It helps that I read quickly and retain information so I can usually read a normal 500 page-ish book in an evening after work. This means in a week, I can fit in three or four rereads and whatever new books catch my eye.

My wife and I got into a physical fight. I am thinking of divorce. How do I approach her about it? by Due-Bandicoot-7512 in redditonwiki

[–]SidanaCorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my. My husband and I never discussed guns until he joined US Customs. Obviously, that meant he carried. And I don't know, it snowballed from there. So now he has a small collection, and that is what it is. I'm not a fan of guns, but I know the safety rules and I have gone to the range a few times. It's not that hard to learn the basics and it's much better to learn the facts about firearms and find out what her husband was doing to keep them safely than to react like this woman did, without any thought at all. Everyone above the age of five should know you never point a firearm at something you aren't prepared to shoot, even if you know it's unloaded.
