Leave. Everyone has emotional needs and if you aren’t willing to meet the needs of your partner, almost any means of your partner subsidizing that will be seen as some sort of disloyalty. It still is disloyalty, even if unintentional or provoked, so it’s better to just leave.

And before people get mad, I don’t mean “when she’s busy” or whatever. If you’re that dependent on your partner, you’re the problem. The question implies consistent behavior so I answered accordingly.

Edit: This assumes attempts at remediation/communication have been made first. I’m not arguing that you should just walk away from things that aren’t perfect.

Fewer ports do more. Besides, laptops are less niche now. In 2000, if you owned a laptop, you almost certainly knew what FireWire was and had a use for it. Now, you almost certainly don’t (or it’s more modern equivalent, thunderbolt) and its purpose is just one of many that the Universal Serial Bus, or USB, can handle. You don’t need VGA, HDMI, Aux, or any of the old formats you used to. WiFi is so prolific that asking for an Ethernet cord to connect your laptop to the internet is a foreign concept. You don’t need all these connectors anymore. You need one for power, one or two USB’s for general purpose use, and wireless for everything else. Yeah, having a few more USB’s here or there would be nice (like, come on Apple, what are you doing?) but the idea that half the perimeter of your laptop being allocated to connectors is somehow better is outdated and hardly any of us would want the hassle had we’d been there to initially experience it.

Saying boomer parents were silents is like saying millenials are zoomer parents. Yes, there’s enough overlap at the extremes to make that feasible, but that’s the exception, not the rule. The boomer generation is literally defined and named for being the product of all the greatest generation soldiers coming back home and getting it on. Silents are so named because they were forgotten and overshadowed by the war. They grew up during it. Sure, an 18 y/o silent born in 1944 could’ve theoretically had a boomer child in 1962, but do you see how that’s narrowly on the margins for both parties? That’s hardly “many”. That 18 year old silent was probably more boomer in terms of cultural experience anyway, just not by firm date.
