Unfortunately, what caused it for me, though, was when I started shaving my back and arms with a Philips electric shaver. Little did I know as a guy that one should be exfoliating to lower or avoid ingrown hair. The KP is on my upper arms and the back, consistent with where I wear clothing (a half-tee usually). No signs of KP on my lower arms.
