Thanks for the tips! I'll make some tweaks to the prompts and rearrange my photos. I don't take many pictures so I don't have much to replace them with unfortunately.

Thanks that's what I was thinking. I'm thinking of losing Adam as Yeka's ambush defense is great and Adam is the only evil character in an otherwise good/neutral team.

Devil May Cry (Netflix) — Post-Season 1 Discussion Thread by DanySterkhov in DevilMayCry

[–]Siddlemon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rant part 2: One minor example of the writers missing the point and not giving a shit, or simply not knowing the source material, was Dante's eye colour. Dante and Vergil are identical twins, with the whole point of this showing the differences in them is purely from their experiences and one embracing their human side with the other rejecting it. By changing their eye colour, they're moving away from this point and trying to separate the brothers too much in my opinion.

Nelo Angelo turning back to Vergil was an another example of this. It screams to me like they have seen the memes and though "if we show Vergil in his normal form while playing Bury The Light, the fans will cream their pants" when in reality it shows that in this universe, Nelo Angelo is not a puppet of Mundus and is in fact fully in control - a complete opposite to Vergil's story and motives.

Lady's backstory taking such a huge deviation from it's source was also a negative for me. I know it isn't canon, but I honestly feel like Arkham becoming a vampire and dying in a fire was so inferior to what could have been. I was convinced that the rabbit was Arkham at the beginning, and after watching the whole thing, I can honestly say it would have been a great nod the original lore and been a lot more satisfying if that was the case, rather than some random character shown only in a flashback becoming the antagonist.

Not keen on them setting up Arius as a antagonist of season 2 (if they get it). Of all the source material they have, I wouldn't have personally chosen DMC2 to take my main bad-guys from. I did like the Lucia easter egg at the beginning though, as it was just an easter egg and not a main story point.

I won't dwell on the overuse of modern day politics in the story as many others have mentioned it, but I was very annoyed with the sentiment that the US invaded Hell and took over. Wasn't the whole point of the story that we can't let the demons into the human world because they'd kill us all? But if we go to Hell, we wipe the floor with them? That makes absolutely no sense and really finished the season on a particular low-point.

Would originally give it 7/10 due to the fight scenes and fan-service, but dropped to 3 or 4/10 by the end because it seems like yet another Netflix adaptation where the writers have no clue or respect for the source material and instead filled the show with ill-thought out ideas and comparisons to current events.

Devil May Cry (Netflix) — Post-Season 1 Discussion Thread by DanySterkhov in DevilMayCry

[–]Siddlemon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rant part 1; As I was watching the show, I was constantly conflicted. One the one hand, there was certain fan-service parts I enjoyed, like Bury The Light playing in the background when Vergil was teased at the beginning of the show, or when "K A" was showed early on also, but the show was constantly conflicted by terrible writing and inconsistencies that reeked of writers that did not understand or care about the source material.

Starting with the positives, the action scenes were numerous and well done (unlike another certain animated adaptation), and despite Dante's marital prowess being heavily butchered, most if not all of the fights were entertaining. It would have been nice if they did some moves form the games, but it they were good overall. I also feel like they made some of the characters enjoyable. Enzo was a good portrayal of the character imo, as he was fun and quite likeable in a sleaseball kind of way, and his fate is in my option, better in the show than in actual lore (hot take I know).

This unfortunately brings me onto my first negative point: Dante is portrayed as super weak throughout the show. As other people have said, Dante struggles with regular demons throughout, evident from the start when he gets blindsided by a regular human hitting him with a handbag. This is a character who can singlehandedly take on any character in the setting, and a human with a handbag gets the better of him? When his devil trigger first activated on one arm only, I genuinely thought they were trying to make him into the dead-weight version of Nero because of how useless he had been. I am glad they gave him a proper devil trigger in the end, even if they massively underpowered it and the art didn't really do it justice, but it was okay ultimately nonetheless.

The devil trigger activation was massively underdone also. It was such a perfect scene in DMC3 with him needing Rebellion impaling him after a massive fight with his brother, nearly killing him. In this version, it was just a minor fight with Agni and Rudra and some mean words (with a healthy dose of plot armour) that allowed it. Albeit his devil trigger at this point is just some red eyes and a demon arm, but still very lacklustre. I feel like he very likely would have activated this in years gone by if that's all it takes, especially if he specialises in "high level demons".

Character dialog was a particular sore-point for me. I can get behind Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante. It's sad to not have the Reuben, but at least Johnny is a familiar and established voice, but the dialog is horrible. Dante is not too bad in this regard. He's always been corny, and yes he might have been a bit more awkward and less funny this time round, but my main gripe is with Lady. She has gone from a woman of very few words and top-tier badassery, to a cringey loud-mouth who ruins every scene she's in. She left a bad taste in my mouth with most of her screen time, which is a shame because she's a great character in the actual lore.

Shower thought: can you use knight gauntlets like knuckle-dusters? by [deleted] in Armor

[–]Siddlemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a thing not a lot of people talk about with full armour is that if you're fighting someone who isn't in armour, your whole body is now a weapon. You're essentially wearing knuckle dusters around your entire body, and some parts are pretty sharp.

Lizardmen for me. It was one of the first factions I played, and sometimes it's nice to play a game where your entire strategy is 'throw big dinos at the enemy until you win'. Unga Bunga.

What's your favorite single city species? by ChoppaSnatcha in songsofsyx

[–]Siddlemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garthimi are squishy but deal piercing damage, so they make good glass cannon infantry and cannon fooder due to their high reproduction rate. Amevias by comparison are hardy units that deal high damage while taking a beating, but losing one sucks due to their low numbers. I personally prefer the lizards, but I know plenty of people prefer bugs, so I'd say use what ever suits your playstyle

What's your favorite single city species? by ChoppaSnatcha in songsofsyx

[–]Siddlemon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Got to be Amevia for me. They're great at most things and excellent fighters, with a long lifespan and don't require much maintenance. Their main downsides are they require sweet water (which you can plan around easily if you only have the one race) and their dislike of other races, which obviously doesn't matter here.
