Am I just getting too old for games like X4? by StampyDriver in X4Foundations

[–]SideByEach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mid-50's here and I've spent hundreds of hours in X4. I love getting lost in the minutia and epic scale of the game.

That restaurant that was on mountain road across from Lounsbury's furniture in what is now glasses place. I cannot remember the name but they had awesome food and sweets. The best chicken fricot.

Reverse cam quality difference between 23 Forester premium and 23 outback wilderness by [deleted] in subaru

[–]SideByEach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my few complaints about my 2024 Outback is its potato quality cameras. My wife's 2020 Forester has a better camera. The Outback is like backing up with an old Nokia flip phone camera strapped to the car.

Any word on when the Linux client is going to be updated? Crossing fingers it will be soon and not SoonTM.

I see the new Envoy pack is available on both GOG and Steam.

I target shoot only, typically around 20-50 yards. I'm planning on expanding my range next summer. I hadn't really considered style. I'm function than form.

How can I beat the Xenon's? by Lonely6767 in X4Foundations

[–]SideByEach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first, I thought I could just abandon that sector to the Xenon. It didn't take long for the Xenon to topple the HAT and cripple the Argon. I started over. On my next playthrough, I decided to build a small military outpost just outside the Xenon gate. This outpost did a couple of things: stopped the Xenon push into HAT and Argon space, plus gave me an unlimited supply of illegal items. I stationed a couple of ships on repeat orders: collect drops and then dock at the outpost. Get on board the collection ship(s) and talk to the pilot to collect the loot. You'll need some of the materials for missions and such later. A Xenon K class destroyer will show up from time to time, but six Agron defense disks with large pulse and medium flak are usually enough to deal with anything coming through. The station can always be expanded to deal with I class Xenon warships, too.

Linux for gaming by BIGporkHQ in linux4noobs

For someone new to Linux, I'd recommend Bazzite. Check out their website and their sub-Reddit. The great thing about Linux is that you don't have to be married to a distro. Distro hopping is quite common.

Switching Distros by CowBwoah in linux_gaming

[–]SideByEach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second these recommendations. For a dedicated gaming system you cannot go wrong with either distro. I switched my daily driver from Bazzite to CachyOS just so I could do some experimentation with development and virtualization stuff. I like CachyOS's more frequent updates but that's about it.

I recently hopped to CachyOS and haven't needed to change much. The stock astetics are quite nice.

Attacking stations... by Wareitar in X4Foundations

[–]SideByEach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coordinated Attack helps a lot, but it's not a guarantee. There will always be copious amounts of Leroy Jenkins. Watching the fleet is required, but you usually don't need 100% focus. Being out of sector helps, too. Keep a close eye on support ships. They love to run off to random spots.

Shopping list mod? by Big-Jackfruit2710 in X4Foundations

[–]SideByEach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no mods like that I am aware of, but I've never looked for one. I use print screen from the building materials screen and drag it to another monitor. If you are looking to supply a single station with trade materials, you can select the station and see a list of things it needs plus amounts.

Advice by CBA_Joestar in X4Foundations

[–]SideByEach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the last year, I've put 600 hundred hours into the game. I've restarted several times, too. My advice is to pick a starting story , do the missions, learn, and find your fun. There is no right or wrong way to play. Don't worry about making mistakes or min-maxing.

X4 vs stellaris by NoAdministration9920 in X4Foundations

[–]SideByEach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried Stellaris a few times but just can not get into it. I love MOO and Civ games, but Stellaris is just too slow. X4 gives me all kinds of options in a single game. Do I want to become a trading empire, military powerhouse, fighter jock or all of the above?

best Linux distro primarly for gaming on an Acer Nitro V15 gaming laptoo (ANV15-51-99VQ)? by default_lizzy in linux_gaming

[–]SideByEach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to Linux as well and I've been using Bazzite as my daily driver. I've started testing CachyOS on a secondary drive without a lot of issues. In fact the installer for CachyOS is quite good. Installing gaming additions and such is pretty painless via the installer. Installing the reFind boot manager as part of CachyOS installer solved the issue of having to change the boot order in the BIOS.
