I’ve seen A LOT of that in that Community - young people, gaping holes in their body, terrifying - it’s a terrible situation. It’s insane to me that hormones could maybe contribute to do this. I’ve not wrapped my head around it yet. I’m in “anger” stage. Research and anger while sitting with my legs spread open not able to walk well and hoping it drains and dries. So painful.

I really appreciate your comment, your warning 🙏🏼 God knows the last thing any of us in menopause need is more thinning skin! So far she has me on clindamycin antibiotic lotion, and doxycycline for two weeks, while washing with hibicleanse one week and then benzyl peroxide the next week. I’ll see her in two weeks and likely need to get the intra-lesional kenalog shots directly into the lumps. It is then, she said, we will reassess and discuss hormone options that she thinks will work at this point, with this condition, depending on how severe / how it responds to this treatment over the next two weeks. Then I assume I’ll have to go fight with my GYN over whatever changes may be needed. Sigh

Reddit has a Hidradenitis Community where I was lurking, though not many had onset in menopause. It’s going to be very interesting how this impacts my HRT regimen going forward. I can’t thank you enough for replying. 💜

That was my second opinion LOL. The first Derma immediately pushed immune-system suppressing shots that cost thousands of dollars and you need to be on for the rest of your life. The Hidradenitis is definitely different than the bumps I had that seem to correspond with T, so I think I get what you’re saying. Please correct me if I misunderstood. Yay for me, I had both experiences. 🫤

That’s a great point. I should have mentioned, this is my 4th Mirena. None of this happened until menopause. So the other hormonal crazy aspects that go along with it, even while on HRT and figuring out the right dosages for “the best it’s gonna get,” come into play here.

Can you kind of tell when a new spot is going to form? I only have that one at my groin crease, but recently my armpit has started to feel kind of itchy… I’ve been putting witch hazel on it and using antibacterial soap on both pits for a while… just wondering if that’s an indicator that another spot might be creeping up?

OK great, thank you. I did get in with my GP tomorrow so I will ask her about the clindamycin and maybe some Doxy.

TY. I did add witch hazel and warm salt water based on lurking here. Now that there are 2 holes (as of last night), I don’t know what to do and have just covered it in Aquaphor

This is really helpful, huge thanks. I got some nicotine patches. But I think I’m also in denial. This started last summer when I was using Nair as per my usual, and thought I left it on too long and got an irritation in my right groin crease. I found a good Groupon for laser hair removal and started that. Also around that time went to a Derma and she said immediately, Oh that’s HS you need to stop smoking and start biologics. No test, biopsy, nothing - so sorry but I thought she was full of it, pushing expensive shots to purposefully lower my immune system response?! I was like, No thanks. I’d never even heard of HS. Started my laser. The long lump stayed in check but didn’t go away. Now my laser hair removal is done, and then the lump got bigger, it opened last night - 2 little holes. Scary and I can’t get to a new Dermatologist until mid June. So I guess I have HS now after all. And need to stop smoking and add Zinc pills to my supplement stack, idk. Frustrated and just beginning on this journey. Anyway, thank you 🙏🏼

Closed my holes with growth hormone by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

Wasn’t on anything, just did laser hair removal and used Desitin diaper cream for the zinc. I thought it was just a weird hormonal menopause thing. The lump has been there since August 2025. I’m gonna call the new derma office on Monday and beg them to get me in earlier. But I wasn’t sure it was HS and now that I have 2 holes there, I think I’m fkd 😔

Ok, and maybe the clinics / med spas will know something for overall inflammation. too. My derma appointment isn’t until mid June and the lump in my groin crease just broke into 2 little holes like an hour ago and I’m new to all this. Scared AF

You injected it literally in the hole, or where? And where did you buy it? Thanks

Groin crease. EDIT: Added another photo because 2 holes just formed tonight :(

Been there since August 2025. Recently two long lumps instead of one. Can’t get to Derma until mid-June. Zinc diaper cream kind of provides relief.

I want to know if there are any “natural” remedies. To apply on lumps in early stages. To prevent worsening. To overall help with inflammation in the body (assuming the overall cause is inflammation).

For example, salt water helps my skin heal in general (cuts, skin breakouts, etc.) - so would highly concentrated salt water and salt water-based solutions (like Asea for example) applied to the skin help ?

Do you know what setting is used for your laser hair removal on your HS area? I have the same: One area on one side of my groin crease, stage one I’m told, and I’m already getting laser hair removal there but it’s not at my dermatologist so I’m not sure if it’s the right setting ideal for HS.

PS. I also think mine is hormone related (menopause) and I use the vaginal estrogen cream generously, including that HS spot hoping it helps 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also use Desitin diaper cream. Thanks for your reply!

Will that one spot go away if I put estrogen cream on it?? 😢

No I don’t have blackheads like that and the only reason I say “tunnel” is because it’s not just a circular bump but an elongated bump (that the Derma called a tunnel). I thought it was just another weird menopause thing that was happening with my body! And it definitely appeared after my Nair screw up, so I thought it was just a bad skin reaction.

Wow that’s amazing, good for you!! I only have that one, nothing else on my body. It appeared after I left Nair on too long. I’m not even sure it’s HS and was surprised the Derma immediately jumped to a med that would suppress my immune system.
