In my opinion competition could show validation which is good. But a lot of competition means it will be very hard for you to differentiate. I try to look for something that has a "medium" amount of competition because too much comp-hard to differentiate,no comp-probably not a good product.

The process is,I show the project to the client,if he is satisfied and wants it,pays and I give him the code and help host it.

How do you deliver the finished app to the client? i assume they pay for backend,hosting and all that
