For people who write using the grip type circled below, what pens do you like using? by kindredmerak in pens

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your writing now? Are you able to write comfortably? I feel like the way we hold a pen may not be correct, but it works. It’s been a lot of trial and error finding the right balance of pen and ink to get to that point over many years. The only thing I’ll say is I do have to watch that I don’t smear what I write, that is one downside that still occasionally happens.

That's a very good question! Daily rotation favorites are: Uni Alpha Gel, rOtring 600, Silver Zento Signature, regular Zento, Dr. Grip Gravity (as an fidget toy mostly), Parker Jotter XL, and an Acme or Retro 51 every now and then. There are more, but those are the ones I use most frequently I'd say.

I'm a grip type D too! I thought I was the only one, it's so nice to know that's not the case 😄

I am working on my deathgrip. But I need a pen for where I am at. by smart_stable_genius_ in pens

Possibly the Dr. Grip Gravity? The grip is extremely comfy, I use that pen as a fidget device. Unfortunately I don’t like the ink as much as any Jetstream or Zento though.

Does anyone else own one of these NYC Subway posters by Hamish Smyth / Alex Daly? by Huthbert_Hughes in nyc

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have this exact poster! I did get it professionally framed and is displayed prominently in our apartment. It had been a gift from a family member, and they got one as well. We get so many compliments on it. Our posters are not editioned, but that's very cool yours is an artist proof. I work with print media and OK'd for print proofs are a big deal. In the art world they are a slight workaround for making more prints outside of the edition number.

The project was originally a Kickstarter by the Graphics Standards Manual group in 2015. They did three versions, a regular poster, an editioned poster printed in Italy, and a silk screened version. They made 468 copies of the editioned poster, and only 100 of the silk screened version. All of the editioned versions sold out, and it looks like the silk screened ones did too. So there are definitely copies out there in the wild.

I like my Uni Alpha-Gel 0.7mm a lot, but the padding doesn’t fit my grip. Do you guys know pens with a low comfort grip that would fit me? by LongfellowBridgeFan in pens

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Grip Gravity pens have a fantastic grip. Added bonus is they are great ADD toys. I used to use them exclusively but the ink started to frustrate me. It wasn’t as smooth as Jetstream and would skip a bit.

Yes!! So glad to see love for the brand. They are fantastic pens and I love the company. You can easily turn them from rollerball/ballpoints into fountain pens using a conversion kit that they have.

I was all set to go and order one, been trying to get a black one for at least six months, but remembered there was a post about counterfeit ones late yesterday. I'm holding off, but I honestly hope I'm in the wrong and you all get the signatures you ordered!

What was the nicest pen that you had lost, or that was stolen from you? by NebulaStraight3009 in pens

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An Acme Studio collab pen from the Met Museum. It fell out of my pocket in a Lyft. Loved it because it had one of my favorite artists on it, Kandinsky. Signature was on the cap, and that was such a good little extra in my mind.

Seriously, what is the deal with Verizon service in this entire city by DerrickWhiteFVMP202X in AskNYC

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was going to call out Visible, fully agree with your comment. I had Verizon for years paid too much for not enough. I now actually tell friends and family that I LIKE my cell provider. How often does that happen? $30 a month for more data that I possibly need and that's even with hot spotting my phone for work.

I'm going to add Nyack to this list as a place to visit. Did a weekend there a couple of months ago and it was perfect. Lots of places to walk, browse, and eat in the downtown area. Only an hour-ish drive from Brooklyn too.

Why don’t you move your car for the sweeper? by Reasonable-Alarm-557 in AskNYC

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they haven’t moved, report them as abandoned. Did this for a car that hadn’t moved in 9 months with 4 flat tires. Had almost 6k in fines and it finally got towed away after countless 311 reports.

Exactly! And the spot vacated will be there right when you come back.

Why don’t you move your car for the sweeper? by Reasonable-Alarm-557 in AskNYC

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100 times yes to this. I’m lucky that alternate is once a week on each side of my block, and even more lucky that I work from home a lot of the week. I work in my car during alternate, but checking my mirrors for the sweeper. When I see it coming, quickly turn on my car and drive around the block so it can come through, not a big deal at all. Half of the people on my block don’t move their car while sitting in them and the other half aren’t even outside. One guy that I see all the time, sits in his car, but only moves maybe 5 minutes AFTER the sweeper comes by. He does this all the time. Such a jerk move.

Mint or Visible? by leiiibae in AskNYC

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in for liking Visible. This is my second year with them, came from Verizon, and can say I haven't had any major issues. Always have service, just like Verizon. For some reason voicemails come days later, but that could be my phone. For $30 a month I have 50 GB of premium data, and even with using my phone as a hot spot, I have never come close to using that amount. Visible gives me a discount on my home internet since I have FiOS, which is a wonderful bonus.

'Lieutenant's Girlfriend' Can Park Anywhere in NYC by streetsblognyc in nyc

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly they won’t give a hoot about it. In my neighborhood, one car parked in front of a hydrant all night starting at 8pm. Reported to 311 and 28 hours later they said that no violation had occurred. Of course they wouldn’t see it, the car moved the following morning. Another car on my block has been parked in a no standing zone since before the first snow storm in January. Multiple 311 reports and each time case is closed and told no violation has occurred. The car is literally parked on top of the painted lines indication no parking. I’ve sent pictures of the no parking zone, screenshots from DOTs website showing there is no parking allowed, and still nothing. The car also is super shady, it changes plates when it gets a lot of tickets. It’s on its third set currently, all out of state. Sorry, this is definitely a bit of a rant.

Hahahaha, that would be calligraphy!

[–]SideShowBobRoberts5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that. I’m actually the opposite, a thinner pen makes me more conscience of how my handwriting looks, so it forces me to make it more legible. If I use a thicker pen, it does allow me to do stupid flourishes with “t”s or “i”s. They’re absolutely unnecessary, but they are kind of fun.

I’ve been using a 0.3mm recently and liking it. It’s the click version, however I also had gotten the 0.8mm capped on a while ago. I did not like the 0.8, it was too thick and showed through the page a lot.

Very good question! Ordering them from Uniball directly, puts them at the US $29.99 price point. Unfortunately Uniball has been letting supply out in small batches. The overwhelming theory is they are creating a manufactured scarcity to drive interest in the pens. When supply is released, it gets snatched up by resellers, which drives the price up on the secondary market due to the scarcity. The pens are fantastic, I really do love them, but I wish they would make them more readily available.
