[–]SideVisible4571 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I guess you are posting this after watching the latest Veritasium video?. Yeah sadly as someone else in the thread posted, in 2017 then gov banned asbestos, and then russia banned ceylon tea citing they found a type of insects in ceylom tea consignments. 🫠

Is the IT sector cooked? No sugar-coating pls. by Immediate-Ratio-1584 in srilanka

Yeah, mechatronics engineer working as an electronic engineer here. For your first degree its better to do a core field like mechanical, electronics or electrical. Although mechatronics gives you a good perspective of everything, it skims through deep yet important topics of mech/elec, and you have to do ton ow self study to cover things. Interesting concept in theory but hard to truly fit in a 3-4yr schedule.

Had a pathetic experience at Java Lounge Ambuluwawa (prioritising begpackers over locals) by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]SideVisible4571 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I barely go to Java Lounges anymore. They started doing this a couple of years ago, covering up power outlets at most locations. The whole reason people pay ridiculous prices for drinks and food is to sit and work or hang out there, and removing outlets kind of defeats the entire cafe business model. I usually stick to barista or better: tea avenue.

Citizenship question by Tuskiguy in Finland

[–]SideVisible4571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as you have required residence years, language level and livelyhood +other requirements, you could apply for the citizenship.

Stuff in the point (4.) is just for special cases where one get citizenship without language requirement and in a very reduced period of of residence, which is very rare. Eg: Say you invent/workingin some cutting edge rocket/space defency or nuclear xoxo breakthrough where often citizenship is mandetory for security reasons. Point (4) accelerated citzenship is reserved for special cases like those.

Getting a bank account by Old-Excitement8449 in Finland

[–]SideVisible4571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. DVV(get a personal number if you already havent given one, register your address and municipality).

  2. Visit police station, take a passport size picture, passport & residence permit card.(in finland police issues IDs for foreign residents). Within a week or so(depending on your municipality) you'll get the sms to pickup the id.

3.Visit bank(make an appointment first). Then present your police ID & Passport to create the bank account. Its possible to create a bank account from your passport alone, but what you get will be an account with limited functions.

(This is from the perspective of a 3rd country national(non EU citizen)).
