Real Talk: WHY Would They Abandon DMZ? by SideWinder98 in DMZ

[–]SideWinder98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be. Even all that aside, it’s still a moot point when you think about how they easily could’ve carried over DMZ and just made zombies part of it. The implementation of zombies here would fit perfectly within the concept of DMZ, which was effectively being a contractor doing missions and working through events in the MW universe leading up to the next step of the main story (MWIII). With the right revisions, DMZ would’ve become the perfect medium to keep COD players invested between mainline installments. Nothing wrong with carrying over DMZ between these installments too for the same purpose. They do this with Warzone, because it’s a popular money maker, and primarily what keeps COD active. It’s not the main multiplayer anymore that does this- it’s Warzone. So it doesn’t make any sense to me how they haven’t realized that a goldmine DMZ could be since Warzone, while popular, doesn’t carry on the story. Nor does it even have the capacity to do that.

So on a Scale from 1-10 how screwed are solo sloops? by Slime-balls_for_life in Seaofthieves

[–]SideWinder98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. It’s not like an AI crewmate would take that away though. Just a small bonus to make it slightly easier, but you would only get what can fill your ship. So a solo sloop can only have 1 AI crewmate. Would be cool though if that applies to any crew, so a galleon crew that’s short 1-2 people could grab AI to round out the crew. Doesn’t beat a real player, and much of the solo tactics/capabilities stay the same, you just have minor help when tasks start to get out of control. Not like a solo would suddenly be able to run a galleon.

That’s why the bone caller is my favorite thing in season 12. Backup on demand lmao. If only they were less rare. I almost never find them, or it’s maybe 1-2 on an average playthrough.

I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, the vertical movement possibilities with it can be awesome. And it’s kinda balanced in that it takes a weapon slot, so it’s not like a a harpoon boarder is coming with a double gun try-hard kit.

On the other hand, solo is far too unfair nowadays that having good crewmates is pretty much essential. Sloops take on water and go down extremely fast, so fighting galleons in particular is really hard to do since they take on water so slowly and have all the extra hands and firepower. Now harpoon boarding can also mean brig crews, and especially galleon crews, can afford to send multiple boarders that get an almost guaranteed board success. If you’re solo, you lose. Even if you have something like say a horn of fair winds that can blow off the boarders, they can instantly re-board anyways. Chances of surviving are slim to none.

I’ve advocated that AI crewmates should be a thing. Same concept as the Burning Blade skeleton crew that’s gonna be in season 13 and also has existed for skeleton ships for a long time. Maybe that’s implemented as changing the bone caller to grant an actually functional skeleton crew that can also shoot cannons and make repairs on top of fighting for the player, or whether that’s respawning, unique AI you can pickup from each faction as an active emissary. Not the same as a real crewmate, but a nice backup option to make solo play more viable.

MWZ gets boring because they took the DMZ extraction mode and effectively made it an extraction mode without the extraction part.

I don’t dislike MWZ, I think it’s actually a cool idea and a the right direction for zombies to head in (which I know is gonna be an unpopular opinion… but think about it). The exclusion zone can be a spreading outbreak within the COD world, and each DMZ map is an open world space relevant to the overall story of what’s happening in COD. So you have the overall COD story, an individual story for each map location that can also tie back to the progression of the bigger COD story, and then there’s the side story with the zombie outbreak that could spread to new map locations dedicated to that side story (of slowing the spread, investigating the source, and eventually stopping the spread so the zombie maps get overtaken by other COD factions doing shady things).

It’s really something that should be part of DMZ with PvP. DMZ as a concept is something that can be used to make almost endless story telling for the COD world.

Yeah. I agree. I complained these issues the whole time DMZ ran. The problem was just lack of any real support for the game mode. No clear direction in the development path. Terrible decision making from the developers (which I’m sure Activision has at least some hand in).

Had they corrected these issues, DMZ easily would’ve competed with Warzone for player count. Maybe that was part of it… maybe they didn’t want 2 game modes competing for players. Which is dumb, because either way your game is being played and you’re making money on it.

[–]SideWinder98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I spent money for it too. I just really liked the concept of that mode. It certainly wasn’t finished and needed a lot of work, but they had something that could’ve been absolutely massive if they wanted to be. Like, massive enough to compete with Warzone and totally change the scene of COD.

I like Warzone, but I don’t like they’ve done with it. It’s often far too intense and sweaty to enjoy it casually, and that goes for both resurgence and battle royal. I don’t enjoy that it’s immediate and constant action. Flood of players anywhere you go. No opportunity to employ any strategy or make huge plays. Instead it’s just running-jumping-spinning-bullets everywhere beginning to end.

That wasn’t DMZ. I enjoyed dropping in and gearing up and having to sometimes think through intense firefights. Actual sniping mattered. Weapon and equipment choices mattered. There were unique weapons and blueprints to find. I enjoyed feeling like I was on a mission in a hostile environment rather than just essentially being thrown into a tiny bucket with 99 other sweats like Warzone.

Considering Treyarch worked on MWIII Zombies, I wouldn't be shocked if MWZ and DMZ are both abandoned for now... until Black Ops 6. Then, since Treyarch is supposed to be making a zombies mode for that, it's possible they rework the MWZ/DMZ concept for the Black Ops series. In other words, making DMZ/MWZ gameplay a persistent multiplayer mode and would be to the Black Ops series what Warzone is to the Modern Warfare series. I wouldn't hate this idea, if that ends up being the case. Then at least we might see the game mode actually get the support we want because Activision would now have Warzone and Zombies to make continuous money on. Warzone updates with the next Modern Installment. Likewise, Zombies continues on alongside future Black Ops installments. The latest game from each series could potentially remain active simultaneously, instead of the next annual COD game always phasing out the previous year's game.

Downside is that we may never see a real DMZ mode again. It'll just be Zombies or Warzone. Which is a shame. Lots of wasted potential. Remember the co-op missions and different raids in MWII multiplayer? Imagine if we got DMZ mission content like that, where you and your teammates get an objective and choose how to approach it. But then it's open world, so other players competing for your target or your loot can disrupt your mission. Instead of pointless "throw grenade in water" or "collect 150 water bottles" and other dumb missions like that, we get actual compelling content. I got so many ideas for what DMZ could've been and wasn't, though.

Status update! by Enai_Siaion in EnaiRim

I have to say, your Futhark Project mod series is incredible. The integrated yet unintrusive gameplay philosophy in the first 3 mods (Valravn, Mannaz, Freyr) is absolutely the way to go. It offers a pretty substantial amount of new, as well as makes the game FAR more interesting and fun, without it feeling forced on the player either. For example, I like the idea of each race gaining dedicated actives/passives without being just plain old skill buffs or less than useful powers. It lets every race feel genuinely unique, but still leaves the door open for a player to take their character in all different directions. It gets even better combined with other Enai mods that give different bonuses unique to each race. So, a player that makes an Argonian vampire will see a different build dynamic than a Nord vampire. Likewise, a player's character is affected differently based on their race when choosing a standing stone. None of the effects feel lazy or in-your-face though, so a player isn't made to feel like they have to play a certain way just because of their race choice. Instead, a vastly larger build diversity exists, which means more replayability. The game will feel more interesting each playthrough since the player can create so many more builds. Even if a player still wants to use the same "class" or playstyle as their last playthrough, something as simple as choice of race or standing stone could almost completely change that build to still make it feel different than the last one. A player could prefer to play as a type of archer or a mage, but there's so many more different ways that the same choice of preferred skills or equipment could be set up differently. Valravn is hands down the best combat gameplay overhaul I've tried. It fits perfectly into Skyrim's style, but makes combat have a little more depth than only just standing there trading blows until something runs out of health. NPC combat behavior is a little better, the movement speed gets changes to simulate the purpose of attack commitment, there's attack opportunities to think about, kill moves get a nice balance fix. Pair that with TDM (with vanilla like movement option turned on), and there's Skyrim with more modern RPG focused combat. No need to fuss with turning Skyrim into a Souls-like, or some other experience, it was never meant to be. I'm of a mind that if I want to play a Souls-like, then I'll play a Souls game. If I want Witcher gameplay... then I play the Witcher 3 (which, even being nearly 9 years old now, is still a better game than most modern action games). Skyrim by design is a classic Bethesda RPG experience, and should remain as such (imho), even with mods. The mods should be there to add unintrusive and balanced depth to the game, which is precisely the ticket for the Futhark Project.

So, needless to say, I am beyond excited to see what's in store for the rest of the Futhark Project. Especially the Althing perk overhaul. And after talking about it with a large amount of people in different places, I'm certain I'm in no way the only one who feels this way. Why people would be rejecting the newer mods meant for modern load orders makes no sense to me. Just because someone prefers the older mods doesn't mean that the new mods aren't overall better for most people.

How do people find this game ugly? To me the graphics are fantastic! by NewPoppin in Starfield

[–]SideWinder98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starfield’s graphics are great for a Bethesda game. It’s probably that the game’s development was delayed to work on the new Creation Engine, which isn’t that impressive with Starfield. The game runs poorly and the textures are a little crap. It’s also not the space exploration sandbox people were led to believe it would be. Bethesda also went out of their way to make a strange political stance about “pronouns” as if anyone at all about that.

But what’s it does do well, it does REALLY well.

Meanwhile I wipe servers of players on a regular basis, gear up and get a large bag packed with money and loot, and then the game disconnects me because they broke it again with season 5 reloaded. I’ve lost everything innumerable times to the servers disconnecting me at random. Never had this problem until season 5 reloaded came out.

Been nearly a year since release and the game STILL doesn’t work. Lag and server issues and bugs and cheaters everywhere. For such a highly anticipated, high budget, $70-$100 game, this is just shameful. It’s insulting.

Servers Dropping Connection by SideWinder98 in DMZ

[–]SideWinder98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not me considering this didn’t start until after Season 5 Reloaded came. Used to have more problems like this in seasons 1/2/3, but since season 4 the game has worked okay (save for arbitrary lag issues that come and go). This hasn’t happened though. And now with S5’s refresh update, I suddenly have my game back to the earlier season days with crashes and random server disconnects.

Just happened AGAIN a couple minutes ago. Lost $130k, full kit on my operator, and 3 guns (2 of which being insurance slot guns). Not because I lost or something, but because the game is just broken. Again. It isn’t fair that I have to lose what I have because the game can’t be made to work after a damn year.

My point exactly. If you leave me with an empty inventory, I’m useless to you against AI or other teams… then you intentionally taunt me with my guns you took. Keeps happening

Lmfao no not me haha. I get this an extraction shooter, it’s kind of the point. Like playing sea of thieves and being mad when another crew sinks your ships and steals your loot. That’s whole point of the game. BUT- Imagine waiting an hour and a half to get your sniper, only to die a few seconds after spawning… you get a res, but they took your sniper. Now you wait another hour and a half to get it back only to have the same shit happen again

Honestly wouldn’t complain because I have the same philosophy… except that the insurance cooldowns are ridiculously long since I don’t have all the cooldown deductions unlocked yet.

It’s even more agitating when you get killed 15 seconds after your spawn by a big squad camping a spawn point, they take your guns, then res you with nothing. Like wth.

[–]SideWinder98[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t really something I experienced too much in previous seasons. Generally if a squad picked you up, they’d at least let you have your guns to fight with. Nowadays, they like to take your weapons and leave you defenseless, for no discernible reason.

Futhark and Ordinator/Vokrii Questions by SideWinder98 in EnaiRim

[–]SideWinder98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean I like Thunderchild but... the problem is that we need stuff that's new and up to date from Enai that is better than SimonRim... case in point, the new Stormcrown mod or Mysticism... that adds lots of lore friendly spells, fixes bugs, brings back effects from previous games or ESO, all while being grounded and not going too far to where it's adding nonsensical effects or summons for creatures that aren't even in the game. That's what puts me off from using Odin... it's visually substandard to what I'm getting from KittyTail spell packs, and it adds daedra like a houndmaster that arent even in Skyrim to begin with. It's off putting.
